Title: prepare for thermonuclear holocaust
Post by: Nuke on October 11, 2005, 10:10:38 am
one hi-poly ragnarok class with brand spanking new textures. i got the main hull of the ship textured, still need to texture the turrets but you get the idea. sorry about all the bad lighting, all the bulbs in the turrets are making everything brighter than it should be. also truspace only suports up to 2048 textures so your only seeing it at a quarter detail.

well the idea was a small ship capable of hit and run attacks on juggernaughts. its in between criuser and corvette class in size ad about 600 meters long. this is a remake of another ship i did awhile back, incase you didnt already know. next gen gtva tech. they rethought their strategy against the shivans and adjusted their designs accordingly.

If it's a gunship who cares about firing angles? Gunships are fine like that. Look at the whitestar in B5 :)

Oh man! I thought the original was badass, but this...wow.  What kind of torpedos are in that thing?

Wait - a 2048 texture and that's only a quarter of it's full detail??

Ever heard of a little thing called - overdoing it?

If it's a performance problem, it's easy to fix though.

Personally I think it's an insane amount of work, but I understand exactly why........

IIRC the quad-pod things are nukes, and the bottom things are meson torpedoes. I beleive there were two somwhat more powerfull nukes somwhere else too...

I'll be honest, I'm not crazy about the ship.  Technically good, just a little too stylized for my tastes.  But the textures are amazing.

i shinemap all my ships, but seeing as this one took a week to texture im not looking forward to that. over a hundred layers in photoshop. of course that technique makes shinemaps all that much easyer to generate.

you get a cookie on the first two parts. 2 meson and 8 nuke, however theres no bigger torp than the meson. there are 5 anti-fighter missile launchers though. and the 4 long range beam cannons, 4 aaa beams, 4 flak guns, and 4 laser guns.

nukemod-cos, link in siggy. you can play with the old version in the nukemod beta, this one is not quite flight ready. got smoothgroups to do, lods, and a bunch of other stuff.

This one aperently doesnt have it though, so i must be thinking of the Valhalla

Fat-Man and Little-Boy I beleive, based on the only two ever used in actual combat...

... or so far as The Goverment wants us to think....

Excellent design

Release! Release! :D ;)

Reminds me somewhat of my own scimitar design tho, or an x-wing's design. :nervous:

valhalla uses 4 turrets rather than 8 bays and it fiires at a higher fire rate. the fat man nuke is the standard capsip nuke and does about 2000 hitpoints each. little boys are smaller with about 1200 hitpoints and are mainly use on fighters and bombers. both are dumbfire.

anyway when this is done il focus on the valhalla revision, followed by a few other upgrades to the mod so i may release a second beta. also gonna make a carrier varient but its low on the priority list.

got all the turrets and subsystems modeled and textured. forgot the meson launcher subobjects but that should be fairly simple. so i should have a test compile in a few days.
