Nice. I don't know any other major events in Freespace, so I guess that's it (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/smile.gif)
Oh, right. Sol node goes boom. I think it kinda deserves its own entry.

Time line sounds about right but now I have a question for all the FS story/ fiction writers out there... Before subspace was discovered in 2261, all the terrans were stuck at sol... right?

Shadowman, I'd check with wEvil and Zarathud and add in their breakdown of FS2 and FS1 events respectively.
(i.e. in the timeline add in the dates in the Great War of technologies being introduced, battles etc. etc.)

well, can you please post it here then (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/biggrin.gif) or icq it to me....thats probably the easiest way

Yeah, I can make up any pseudoscientific explanation you need. (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/wink.gif)

Since it's supposed to be canon reference, and since Shrike isn't a Violations!!!! epolyee!!! (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/wink.gif)
Still, I don't think any tech mumbo jumbo is needed, just dates and such of what V has out.
Also if you haven't already, check out the old FSURP site which has good deductions on communications, sensors, and engine technologies.
The FS2 tech room has some good basic info on sub-space, and about as good of a description on how it "works" as we'll get.

Basic stuff like lasers, fusion drives, etc. While it wouldn't be canon, it would be nice to have a bit of background on what the tech is like.

do a search in this forum....we bashed out what beam cannons are as well.
Also...even though it would make everything 10 times harder are we going to be including campaign timelines after fs2 ends?
Well...i filled it out a bit. If i made any mistakes, please cut&paste and correct them.
-----
2261: Sub-Space discovered by Professor James Whiteside
august 12th, 2262:
First successful subspace jump to delta serpentis by the Pioneer ship "Gaia"
2263-4: Sub-Space travel is quickly utilized by GTA
PCT - Provisional Cooperation Treaty. Most Nation States with a high industrial capacity cooperate on a massive building programme to create subspace capable ships to carry a sizeable colonisation fleet beyond Delta Serpentis.
2311: Near by systems fully colonized, Antares system and other border systems have automated science outposts.
Final Unification of earth govornments into the infant GTA. While the early GTA was more akin to an expanded United Nations, it was more concerned with domestic issues that military concerns.
2318: First Vasudan Contact - Communication failiures frustrate both sides.
2320: Large scale distribution of Terran/Vasudan translation device to both cultures.
Several High level Terran officers commence a soft campaign against the rest of the security council.
sept 2320-nov 2320:
Several Terran attacks on vasudan assets cause outrage on vasuda prime.
Orders to the patrols cannot be traced by Intelligence.
2321: 14 Year War Begins (V-T war)
2333: The first Typhon class destroyers enter service. The Vega Engagement leads to the destruction of the GTD Eisenhower and 4th fleet at the hands of the PVD and its fleet.
2335(January 8): Operation Thresher begins. Declared a failure two days later. This is the last major battle of the 14 Year war.
2335(January 18): Shivans make presence known. Final cease-fire purposed by the PVE.
2335(May 22nd): Destruction Of the Lucifer over sol, isolation of sol and the beginning of the reconstruction era
2336: Several Systems fragment forming their own political entities
2338: Khonsu II Ascension
2345: The Galactic Terran-Vasudan Alliance formed, project Colossus begins.
Re-absorption of system-states. Terran recovery still lags behind vasudan owing to the lack of strong leadership in the councils.
2350: First Deployment of beam cannons on a mothballed GTD Orion.
2366: NTF Rebellion Begins -
Admiral Bosch initiated a coup in Polaris, Deneb, Epsilon Pegasi, steals the NTF Iceni and most of the 4th fleet defects.
GTVA immediately places economic sanctions on the rogue worlds and instigates subspace node blockades while the contruction of fleet ships is ramped up.
14th November 2366: NTF presence detected in gamma draconis, modified Aeolus class cruiser and a fighter wing sent to patrol node.
16th November 2366: Rakshasa class cruiser and several wings of maras appear through the subspace knossos portal, detroying the cruiser. GTVA command deploys the GTC carthage and the GVCv Dashor with Alpha wing from the GTC Aquataine to neutralise the immediate threat.
22nd november: First combat deployment on the GTVA Colossus, a super-capital class juggernought.
25th novermber: NTD Repulse destroyed by GTVA colossus, NTF forces being large scale retreat. Turning point in the civil war.
1st December 2366: GVD Psampik encounters a 6km shivan vessel beyond the second Knossos portal.
5th December 2366: SJ Sathanas gains entry into GTVA space after the attempted detruction of the subspace node.
Intelligence recon flights show massive shivan forces encroaching on GTVA space, In desperation GTVA Command deploys meson destroyers to epsilon pagasi and vega to trap the shivans at capella.
10th december 2366: Destruction of GTVA colossus by a sathanas class juggernought.
Reasons cited for this loss was the will of the crew, who refused to retreat and attempted to hold the shivans until the Bastion reached the capella jump node.
2367: Battle of Capella (FS2)
2370: Last shivan cruiser in GTVA space neutralised by the GTD Carthage in Vega.

The point of the FSURP is for canon references.
All non canon material (such as the 2370 date) should be removed and placed within it's own categories in the future.
Note: Even for non canon it is not based on decent facts, (no offense wEvil (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/wink.gif) ) since no Shivan ships escaped from Capella which we know of, Shivan forces after the battle were not within GTVA space.
Once again, keep this non-canon material for future extra reference as an option.
The FSURP was designed to provide facts on canon, this is what Killjoy mentioned on the site and wished for, and then side articles of interpretations.
Things such as PCT, tech descriptions not within FreeSpace, etc. are not canon and should not be included in the base reference.
Look at the existing timelines done by Zarathud and Sandwich, ask permission to add their data into your timeline.
Keep it canon, organize facts and pure FS facts, and filter them closely.
Then ask for people's interpretations and have them in seperate categories.
I know that a lot of folks here are good writers, but the FSURP should be for having pure reference on FS material within FS, FS2, and the FS1 Universe Reference Document released by Volition.
Some dates on what I provided 2311 and 2261 are conjecture on rough dates mentioned in the FSURD (The Universe Reference Document) these are not pure canon and so should be removed from the timeline and given estimates on what is written within the document.
I'd like to see this as a pure reference for people who do not know of the FS universe, and to prevent it from having non Volition writings taken as facts by many.
There is space for these alternate timelines, interpretations, but the space is not in the "official timeline" of Volition or what is accepted by the FSURP as canon.
To do so is to defeat the purpose of an accurate database of FS data for people to use as conjecture to make their own original plotlines and interpretations which can be added to the FSURP database.
Here's an example of why this should be done in this manner:
Some lines in the FSURD such as "...this varifies the legends the Vasudans have of their ancestry... " can be interpreted as that the Vasudans were taught by the Ancients or that the Vasudans are the Ancients.
If the FSURP accepts non canon into it's "official timeline" and does not filter non canon facts into their proper seperate regions of the site, interpretations, the possibilities given by these lines which are "FS fact" would be narrowed to the status quo of those who write for the FSURP.
If facts are kept canon, the manpower is into filtering facts in their raw form, and then interpretation is seperate, you allow for more options, more discussion.... better campaigns!
This long rant serves a purpose, the FSURP is intended as a reference to organize ideas and to show what FS fact is as well as what fans believe it should be in their own seperated documents and critiques.
To do otherwise is to not keep to Killjoy's intent and to not keep to it's namesake. (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/wink.gif)

Where the hell were you when I was doing Neo-FSURP?!
FSURP, in its most basic form, should only be canon stuff. Strictly speaking, this is only the games, but I think it can also include the Freespace Reference Bible and traceable Volition quotes. That's it, no more, no less. The rest is for us to make.
------------------
I know there is a method, but all I see is madness.
-
Neo-FSURP? Heard about it long after it was dead unfortunately.
I left the FreeSpace community for several months on end due to a project with a company called Crytek Studios which went nowhere.
Also, including traceable, recorded Volition quotes is a good idea, since it gives more "meat" for 'proper' speculation using good facts (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/wink.gif)

Yes, exactly. It can feature extensions and interpretations (such as a basic explanation of fusion drives, subspace, etc) but these should be clearly stated to be non-canon and only one possible interpretation. Non-canonical events should not be present at all.
-
Nice site you got there... (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/smile.gif)
I'm just glad Stryke isn't around.
-
sorry...most of what i wrote is extrapolated fom facts in the game...im just trying to work the whole thing out, considering a deep, valid timeline is very important to my pet project as well. I think anyone who's read lord of the rings will agree that if you have a good history half the story has already written itself.
------------------
I'm sick and tired of being sick and tired!!
-
Well, you got at least one thing wrong... the NTF rebellion was some 18 months old at the time of the main campaign.
-
Well wEvil, what you wrote would be classified as interpretation on the site (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/wink.gif)
The "actual FSURP timeline" should be raw facts, and any lines which seem to depict dates or the rough time period of an event should have itself on the timeline or as a footnote.
Some things like: Discovery of artificial gravity?
Would have the sure note of pre-2335 though the date is not known. (we know artificial gravity is used on GTVA ships due to the cutscenes)
Things like discovery of sub-space has a mention such as "over two decades ago" so the note on the timeline would be at the 2 decade mark before 2335 and any time prior.
