Title: Newbie questions
Post by: bob-sama on October 11, 2005, 11:56:13 pm
Ok i have a few questions

1-Is there any way to make FS2: Colossus run the entire game without spending (much) money?
2-Does anyone have a screen of the medal chest explaining what each medal is? I am sorta "stuck" on being an ensign in FS2: Col... and i got all the awards (but ace) like 4x... i have the gold things on each reward...

Ensign, Lt. Jr. Grade, Lieutenant, Cmdr, Commodore, Captain, Admiral, etc. = point related. The more stuff you kill, the more points you gain, the bigger the thing you kill, the higher the point value, the more promotions you acquire. Points are higher as difficulties are higher.

I don't get your first question though.

For the first question, it may be possible but it would be better to just download the full version of FS2 from one of the links here.

FS2: Colossus is a sort of demo of FS2. It has only a certain number of the earlier missions of the game, or something like that.

Try checking around the forum. There are a few ways you can grab yourself the full game.

Is there a Single player way to promote?

To answer the first question, since you already have FS2: Colossus and the game engine itself, all you need is the root.vp and if you prefer, the .vp with all the voice acting in it, after which you can play FS2 as normal - simply delete off the old root.vp and it ought to work....

Singh is actually correct. If you were to go to the downloads section of my FAQ and grab the HotU-Crack-Pack (which contains the FS2 version of root_fs2.vp) It would probably let you play all the missions (If it doesn't try the exe in the pack too. Back up the old ones though)

However there are some problems with doing things that way. All the command briefing animations and voice acting for later missions would be missing.

If you've got a good connection there is a thread on this forum which will let you download the full game. You're probably better off doing that.

actually, all he would need are the .vps for the voice acting and the command anis and he should be set. There shouldn't be a need to download the entire game, I think....

Yeah but there are some slight differences in the other VPs too. I haven't checked what exactly but Sparky_fs2 is a slightly different size from the retail version and I'm not sure if that's only due to the extra splash screens.

Besides apart from the FTP the only way to get hold of the VPs is to get the full game anyway (Regardless of whether you get the 1 or 3 disk versions) :)

That's how it works in both Single Player and Multi Player. All ships have a set amount of points which your pilot gains as you kill them.

There's no real way of promoting yourself manually, unless you go and edit a mission and set a ship's point numbers to 99999999999999. That should get you the final promotion, but you were never really in fact meant to get to the Admiral positions.

Same with FS1. You're not supposed to get past rank F (Captain I think) so G, H, and I are joke messages telling you to stop cheat.

The FS2 G/H/I ranks are actually serious, as :v: probably took into consideration that someone will actually play long enough to get to that rank. Once you reach Admiral though, it tells to go read a book, which I cracked up at.
