When I was thinking of characters for the HLP movie sequel, and comparing that to the ones that the first featured, it struck me that we seemed to have lost a lot of our mainstream members. What happened to our older members, anyway? For instance, Tiara, Icefire, TheCelestialOne, etc? IIRC TCO left because of an argument, but Tiara and the others?
-
...Oh sure...forget me why don'tcha...:)
-
Apparantly you're still active :p
-
Who're you?
-
Me...Active?! Ha! I'm about as active as a sloth is fast.
and I'm Corhellion...you should remember me...seeing as how I lead a bunch of 'rines in a battle in the first HLP movie...we found the turret command if I remember correctly...
-
I went somewhere.
I came back though. And I brought booze.
-
Tiara took the huff because people kept slagging star trek.
-
Star Trek sucks.

Oh, I'm sorry, I forgot the customary smiling that goes with a joking post ;): :p

Yeah, I've noticed the same thing, although people tend to go into denial about it if I bring it up. :p In general there have been these "waves" of community veterans every two years or so, who were very active during that period but more or less disappeared afterwards.
IceFire is still here though; he posts fairly often. I think he and Ace are probably the oldest members of the community still around. I have been around for quite a while myself, since early '99 or so.

Aye.
And isn't IceFire here every now and then? :)

He's around. Visits about once or twice a day.
Usually in his cave though.
I stalk him.
-
I think I miss Plasma the most.

You act as if stalking is a new hobby.
Check for the little red dot dancing near and around your head every once and a while, why don't you?

I can get him for you, though it'll be up to him if he wants to make a sound.

Where?
:snipe:
Oh too late :(

Although I'm new Iv'e noticed a slack in Setekh's posting.

I'm still about....
Running while standing still really.

Gee, I wish I counted as a longstanding, contributing member of the community.
-
Too bad you don't. :p
I kid, I kid.

But you're still reasonably active.
Though you won't be very soon.
As soon as I finish cleaning up the Blackdove mess. :D

You go without mentioning.

:nervous:
Then again, I suppose I haven't really contributed much to the community in a long time...
-
I guess I'm a newbie who hasn't done anything notable ether ;)
-
You post. Frequently. :p

(So was everything else touching It.)

If you insult The Next Generation, you support terrorism.
-
Next Generation just sucked less than Enterprise. DS9 is the only remotely good Trek. REMOTELY. BARELY.
-
Forgive him, oh Noodley One; he knows not his transgression.
Anyway, as far as I know, TNG was the only series to have an episode win a Hugo award.

Um...no. Some of us actually enjoyed Enterprise (yes, even seasons 1 and 2). I happen to like all five series, and I've yet to find something that surpasses its legacy. Without Star Trek, you wouldn't have series like Bablyon 5, Battlestar Galactica, Firefly, or Stargate. Just think about that. And Kirk >> everyone :D

ya, and where the hell did they come up with that weird design anyway? :wtf:
@ Mongoose: Kirk AND Picard >> Everyone. haven't you read Shatner's books? :p

More importantly, why did they have to rip off the Akira class for a ship that's supposed to be ultra-retro?
-
what was the time set, again? before kirk?
-
Yeah. Before the UFP, before Star Fleet, before everything distinctly Trek. They forced it in later, but it just wasn't the same IMHO.

'cuz they're unimaginative.. i won't go into how combat ineffective the ships are, but DS9 was one of the best out of the lot, with the exception of TNG, of course..
i've recently gotten into Babylon 5, lately, only because i've bought the season dvd's.

Meh, the 4th season is what the show should have been to begin with. Dealing with the main species of the Federation (who are, except for the Vulcans, oddly absent from all of the shows but TOS) and their relations before the Federation.
...and yes I am of the opinion that the 4th season of Enterprise had some of the best Trek done yet. (mainly because the idiot producer got his damn hands off of it)
But Sheridan would just nuke 'em! ;)
-
I'd like to see Sheridan telling Q to "Get the hell out of my galaxy."
/and at that moment, I realized B5 had started to suck

I was away, not through choice - HLP kept crashing my browser :mad2:

Oh bah! The whole psycho President Clark thing that was reminiscent of 'Dr. Strangelove' more than made up for it.

[color=66ff00]Actually Enterprise was an Akira class starship with flipped nacelles.

-
Except for the "Sister ship"...the Akira...it looked exactly like the new one...almost...tis most upsetting...
And the Klingons in the first episode! WTF?! I didn't catch it later on, but I hope to **** that they corrected that...
-
Ok.....seriously.....enough with trek bashing and back to the topic?
:wtf:
Trek may suck to you guys...but some of us grew up on it, and as far as I know, its the best ive seen to date. Seriously; no wonder Tiara left - such hostility is rather extreme, to say the least. :blah:

Thank you for contributing to the thread, watch your step on your way out.
As for disappearing members, everyone goes into hibernation now and then. Most of them come back after a while, a few go beyond the outter rims into the dark void of the internet, never to be seen again.

TOS: Haven't seen it all, but the James Blish novelizations of the series all rock, without exception. Outstanding work.
TNG: Saw it all. Much corniness. Much good. Borg. Best characters (Data, Geordi, Ro Laren... mmmm). Wimpified Borg. 'Nuff said.
DS9: Saw it all. Much less corniness. Much more good. More realistic characters (they get into fights with each other). Dominion War. 'Nuff said.
VOY: Saw first season or two, and some scattered episodes. Started out good. Continued to wimpify the Borg. Can't say much else.
ENT: Saw it all. Promising premise. Didn't deliver in seasons 1 & 2. Season 3 much improved, but still didn't take advantage of prequel opportunities. Season 4 (minus last episode) rocked to no end.
And to continue the trend:
BSG: Seen it all so far. Unlimited and unbeatable rockage. All our base are belong to Cmdr. Adama. Every character (except - intermittently - for Dr. Baltar) rocks. Season 1 Episode 1 won a Hugo. Will actually spend money to buy on DVD. 'Nuff said.
Star Wars: Seen them all. Solo ownz. 4-6 rock. 1-3 aren't worthy of the name. Jar-Jar can be blamed with the rise of the Emperor. Timothy Zahn rocks.

I'm still here, sort off..

Sandwich: TNG had the good Borg as well. The true slaughtering of them as a race of characters was really at around FC.

No, not if you think about it. They were only decent in their very first episode; starting from The Best of Both Worlds, they stopped being a network of interlinked drones and started caring about the individual (Locutus). They turned from faceless into... erm... not-faceless. :p
-
nearly every episode of ST has an almost painful amount of cheeseyness.
TOS is just funny. 'specially the old cartoons.
-
Almost?
