I have 3 files of .ISO of fs2 and i dont know how to install it can anyone help me and Thank You in advance if you do :)
-
Try using periods, first :p
Then, burn the ISOs to a CD using a burning program (probably Nero). Or, you can get a program called ISOBuster, where you can open up the files and unzip/install them. All ISO's are are images of CDs in one file, containing all that was on the CD, basically.
-
I downloaded the fs2 from here http://episteme.arstechnica.com/groupee/forums/a/tpc/f/39309975/m/115003814731/p/1 please help me >_<. thanks if you do.

I don't have a clue, myself. I think you can just use Daemon Tools, which is available from here: http://www.freespacezone.com/

CDBurnerXP Pro (http://www.cdburnerxp.se/) is free and will let you burn an ISO to a CD.
You could also use to mount the ISOs as virtual CDs, and install from those.
Both of those websites include information on how to use the products. (http://www.daemon-tools.cc/dtcc/portal/portal.php)
-
When i try to press Tab the afterburner doesnt activate all it does is go to full speed when i let go it go back to 0
-
It's a problem that happens with default FS2 in XP. It can be fixed by choosing Windows 98 or so Compatibility Mode.
Or upgrading to the SCP if that's an option.
-
Retail FS2? Windows XP? Not using compatibility mode?
Set the compatibility mode of the game executable (not the launcher) to Windows 98/ME and that should take care of it.
For your future questions, look through the FSDoc Wiki.

:wtf: Never used compatibility mode in FS2 and did not have this problem.

Not everyone does. It's one of the most unusual FS2 bugs in that respect.
-
IIRC someone pointed it down to some form of error at the assembler level, I think maybe down to a dodgy integer value.
-
Theres no music in the game. I checked the data and the music it was a empty file.
-
This is really a question for the general FS2 forum not modding so don't be surprised if it gets moved by an admin.
As for the question itself. I need to know what version of FS2 you have. Standard retail? FS2_Open? HotU version?
Tell me where you got it from and how many CD's/ how big is it if none of those terms mean anything to you.
-
It's got to do with a system timer IIRC. Something about always returning a negative number.
-
When i play FS2 it freezes. I play all fine till it freezes its annoying.:mad2: can anyone help me :sigh:
-
 I have :wtf: a pain in ;7 my foo:mad2:t, why does  my foot :shaking: hurt :hopping: ?
-
why did you make three seperate topics in the FS _MODDING_ forum about general FS game failures?
-
You can't keep making new threads for each problem Retro. Kindly confine all your problems to one thread and wait for us to have a chance to solve one before moving on to the next one. They could all be due to the same root problem.

Other than setting your account to not let you make threads for a few weeks*, nobody really knows. You should post these tasty little bits of info that might help someone who knows what's going on fix what you have no clue about.
Your system specs, including OS
Which FS_Open build you're using
What campaign and mission you were playing when FS_Open crashed
Why you're so goddamn impatient and objectionable
Any other applications running at the same time as FS_Open
*And by weeks, I mean lifetimes.

we were all n00bs at one point, hell, i probably still am one, but i don't think any of us were quite that bad

From my FAQ
The afterburner/energy transfer system has stopped working. I hear the sound but don't go any faster. What can I do?
This had many people purplexed for a while but turned out to be due to a bug in the FS2 code. All the cases I've seen of it so far have occured on Windows XP or Windows 2000. The problem can be solved for XP users by running FS2 in compatability mode. Open up your Freespace folder and look for FS2.exe. Make a short cut for this file and position it wherever you like (Desktop or Startmenu). Right click on icon and choose properties. Click on the Compatability tab and choose which ever mode you like (I've heard that Windows 95 works best but you might find otherwise). Use the icon to run FS2 from now on.
Since Windows 2000 lacks compatability mode I'm not certain how to solve the problem there. But running FS2_Open will also fix this problem as the bug has been corrected.
-
As I posted on the other thread

Which kind of shows you why you should stick to one thread rather than spacing everything out.

A period is this: "."
You usually use it if you end sentences. So instead of typing the sentence below:
If you can help please tell me the solution I need help
Type like this:
If you can help, please tell me the solution. I need help.
And please use question marks (?), too.
-
Windows 2000 does have compatibility mode if you install something.
-
It does? I'll have to look into that.
-
Period = Full stop in Foreigner.
-
i have FS2 in Windows 2000 and have never had the afterburner problem... it happens on my XP machine tho....
-
I think there's only a select few who experience this problem under Windows 2000. In fact, I can only remember ever hearing about it once.
-
ok all threads merged by request.....retro...when you have a problem or question concernging gameplay...just go ahead and post in this thread. It makes you look like a seasoned veteran when you do that.
-
i have a problem trying to connect to the multiplayer. when i press the ready room it just crashes and close. all im trying to do is make a lan game
-
PXO has been dead for years now you have to use fs2.net. Others will give more info. on this since Iv'e never messed with it. Plus, you should have asked in your merged thread. Your risking a serious butt kicking from the admins.

hmm i tried the f2.net but it says i was timed out. plus all i want to do is play lan
-
fs2.net is not as reliable as PXO was, in that its server is not dedicated. The status of multiplayer is a bit hazy right now anyway. Try it, and if it doesn't work go see if you can figure out, based on recent posts about it, why it doesn't work. And to reiterate what has already been said, PLEASE keep all of the basic questions in the same thread. This type of thing makes the forum a bit cluttered.
EDIT: If you just want to play LAN, you should be able to just play LAN. That should be available under the Multi options screen.
-
i try using FS2 and FS2_open i put the options to LAN but they both say

Threads merged. A warning to Retro: Don't keep posting new threads with different problems. It's annoying to clean them up. :p
What OS are you using?

where can i find the os
-
Operating System. Examples would be Windows XP, Windows 98, Windows ME, etc.
-
I have Windows XP but i made it to Windows 95 for afterburners
-
That might be the problem. Compatability mode messes with things (like networking) in an adverse way at times. Try turning it off to see if it works. It's obviously not a solution, but you can at least take that and start looking into FSO.
-
tried doing that didnt work =\
-
Are you posting from the same computer you're running Freespace from?
-
yes
-edit-
this is my setting for multiplayer
(http://img43.imageshack.us/img43/8954/here2ck.jpg)
-
If you're posting from that computer, then TCP is enabled. Thus Goob's question. You should be able to enter the target IP address in the IP address field to get a lan game going, I think.
-
If fs2net is what you're aiming at, be sure to read this:
http://www.game-warden.com/forum/showthread.php?t=267
-
no i just want to play regular pxo lan
-
PXO is not LAN. PXO is the (now defunct) matching service that Volition used to run. You can't do anything with PXO now.
-
what can i fo to play lan
-
LAN is Local Area Network, you need at least two computers connected.
-
i know but i try to but no server pops up
-
Are you sure the host hosted the game well? Can your computers in the network detect each other in Windows?
-
yea i use to play cs with him
-
can anyone help me change my background back to the regular fs2 and not the inferno background
-
Move the inferno VPs out of your main FS2 directory.
