This error probably means you don't have OpenAL installed.
Open AL Installer for Windows (http://connect.creativelabs.com/developer/Wiki/OpenAL%20Installer%20for%20Windows.aspx)
-
Or better yet, one that's not 3 years old: :D
Open AL Installer for Windows (http://developer.creative.com/articles/article.asp?cat=1&sbcat=31&top=38&aid=46&file=oalinst.exe), Library 1.1 version 1.9.9, released Dec. '06.
The one linked to above was updated February 9, 2005 -- Lib 1.1 ver. 1.2.8
As soon as WMC updates his linky, I can delete (or someone else can delete) this post.
That one wasn't even out when he posted.
:necro:

I know that... but it was stickied. If you sticky something, IMHO, you should keep it relatively up to date. I dunno. Anyways... :D
-
I can't DL the File. The link doesn't work. Is there another place to get OPEN AL?

They've done an overhaul to the site. New direct-download link for the Windows installer is http://connect.creativelabs.com/openal/Downloads/oalinst.zip .

Still it didn't work, I'm running in a XP pc, Installed and rebbot, still doesn't work. Hell, it doesn't work even in vista(albeit for other resons)

Running Mac OS X 10.4.11, and even installing OpenAL it doesn't work... Ideas?
-
Is that the error you're getting? Just out of curiosity. I have had FSO working on both 10.4.11 and 10.5.5, I don't even remember needing to install OpenAL, I think it was already included or something. Not sure though.

Sorry for replying this late...
Anyway, I think too OpenAL isn't needed, but I installed it in any case, but I'm still getting the error. It exactly the topic one
