Hey guys, its been awhile, but I got my BRAND SPANKIN NEW Sapphire ATI Radeon X850PRO, and I get a complementary copy of Far Cry with it!!! whoooo hooo!!!
Anyways, my FTP is back up, and im gunna make it simple this time... You may download it, but ONLY if its necessary, if you want it for a friend, Let me know... [email protected], or PM me....
If I can get a sticky on this, that would be cool too...
There is one step to getting you Browser to access my FTP in you cannot access it....
(For IE) Go to tools, then internet options, then click the advanced tab, scroll down to the option that says "Use Passive FTP (For firewall and DSL Modem Compatibility)" If that is on, tick it off and see if you can access the FTP, if its off, tick it on and do the same thing...
This should fix the problms people have been having accessing the FTP...

It's probably your upstream. Can't fix that, the ISPs put absurd limits on it to screw P2Pers.

Or it may simply be that he's on ADSL which has a lower upstream by design.

no its cable....
-
Many cable systems do the same thing for exactly the same reason. Back when ADSL was first designed P2P was not a big thing so everyone said "Why waste bandwidth by giving people a huge upload pipe they won't use when most people spend almost all their bandwidth on downloads"
At the time a completely logical decision and still pretty logical for many people but if you're running an FTP site or constantly have BitTorrent or EDonkey going it means that you will be uploading a fair bit of the time.

ide rather not use fs2_open for matthews fs2netd, toms build is a lot more useful, it tells you when someone is in the game room waiting, and tells u the versions of games people are using, and it automaticly sets people to low object updates, and allows u to kick/ban IN GAME should u need to, hopefully not though ;) hopefully u guys will add these things in your next fs2_open application :)

Hey! I was downloading the iso 1 and it stopped! I was 29 percent too! i can't even go to the ftp site now! whats wrong?
I think it asploded
-
my computer must of got shut off.. what time and day was it when it happened?
-
bout 7pm nov, 14
it was in detroit michigan
-
dude the 14th is in two days from now, youre saying that you went on my FTP two days into the future?
-
what?
-
woops. sorry. the 11th
well nevermind. its working again. (i have disc 1)
how come none of the apps on disc 1 work?
the autoplay dosn't work, the setup dosn't work, even that _ISDel thing dosn't work! whats wrong?again!
sorry didnt edit that last one
-
What did you mount the ISO with?
-
you mean burn to the cd? Nero
If you dont mean to burn, i have no idea
-
I was assuming you mounted it rather than burning it. Mounting means getting Nero (or another program) to add a virtual CD drive to your PC which can read the ISO straight off your HD. It's generally a good idea to mount a file first so you can see if the ISO is corrupt rather than burning it and only finding out then.
What sort of errors do autoplay and setup give you?
Do you still have the ISO? It could be corrupt. I might be able to put up some parity files so you can repair it if ZmaN can tell me where he got his ISO from.
-
What I did was I burned the ISO image to the CD, so you can see all the files and stuff. There is no error messages what so ever. Autoplay and Setup just don't run ( I double-click on it, and nothing happens). Yes I still have the ISO. I am pretty sure it is corrupt, because my copy of WinRar is configured to open ISOs, but it says it is damaged.
-
well my ISO files are from (originally) www.freespacezone.com .... I cant see why they dont work, they work for me!
-
ahh well. I'll just download them again. Thanks Anyway.
Was anyone else having troubles with corrupt files?
-
well my ISO files are from (originally) www.freespacezone.com .... I cant see why they dont work, they work for me!
Bad download most likely.
-
but i got the iso's before their server went down! I'll test them and then reload them if there are any errors....
-
I meant for thesizzler not you.
-
it works!!!!!!!!!! (happily) Yay! (ode to joy playing in background) (downloading 2nd iso)
-
Hey, I just installed it today, and when I click on 'ready room' or try to watch a cut scene it says "Insert disk 2". Is a crack needed, or did somthing else bad happen?
-
If you need a crack go to my downloads page or simply use FS2_Open.
-
So it IS the crack I need. Thanks.
-
In reality you need the ISOs to work properly but the crack should solve the problem for now.
-
Well the game works, but the movies still say they need disk 2 inserted, which IS inserted.
Also, custom missions don't work.
-
The movies will still be on the disk. You can copy the mve files from disk 2 and 3 to a folder called movies inside your data folder to prevent that.
It's starting to sound to me like ZmaN or DW Hunter has a dodgy copy of the ISOs I'll have to look into this. I'm using Daemon Tools 3.47 and I can mount the FreeSpaceZone files with no problems. Which version is everyone else using?
-
Well the moivies still don't work, and I even tried putting them right in the main FS2 directory, like they are in the HOTU version, but they still don't work. And the Custom missions don't work either: ' please insert disk 2 '. I have the crack installed too. Oh yeah, I used Nero 7.
-
That crack definately should have solved that. I don't see how a no CD crack could have failed to solve that in fact. :wtf:
You did unrar everything in the rar file to your FS2 folder right?
-
well my ISO filea re working fine.. I just got Freespace 2 Installed yesterday by running disc 1 from the hard drive and discs 2 and 3 mounted using daemon tools so they are NOT BAD ISO'S! they worked for me, so they should work for everyone else....
Zman
-
You see the odd thing is that I've heard DW-Hunter say that the ISOs won't mount with Daemon Tools (Which quite frankly is the first time I've ever heard of that happening) and you got them from him so I was wondering.
-
I re-extracted it, and now it works - no more 'no cd' messages thanks.
BUT, now I can't play ANY missions. I can't even look at their breifings! midway thru loading the mission, a error message popped up saying: FreÂspace' must quit freespace IS mentioned like that in the message.
(I must be cursed! look at all the problems I'm having. You guys must be starting to get pissed-off at me. I know I would)
-
Which custom missions are you trying to play? Cause if you're running an FS2_Open mission on retail FS2 you should expect crashes.
-
IT WORKS!!!! YAY!!!! (sorry about caps, just very happy) YAY!!!!! After 4 years of knowing and wanting the retail version of FreeSpace 2 ---YAY!!!!!!!!!!!--- and a myriad of errors, re-installations, and posting for help in forums, I finally have a fully functinal copy of FREESPACE 2!!!!!!! YAY!!!!!!! SORRY ABOUT CAPS!!!!!!!! YAY!!!!!! *stopping now*
-

that seems TOTALLY bogus...
Congradulations on your finctional copy of FS2, sizzler!
-
ummm...
who is and who ISN'T having trouble accessing the FTP?
-
its not working right now, but dont take the sticky down, I'm going to reinstall IIS (Internet Information Services) through XP Pro and that should fix it, so give it about a week...
thanks guys, Zman..
again sorry about...
-
ok I think I fixed it.. The router was discarding any iformation it couldnt verify. I disabled that for my computer only and it let me on so it should work now...
-
Was working earlier and I managed to get disc 1. Now I either can't get on, or if I can get on, the transfer never starts (in both normal and passive modes it SAYS it's starting, but no data is actually received).
By can't get on, I mean this:
Connected to 67.84.198.176.
421
User (67.84.198.176:(none)): anonymous
Connection closed by remote host.
I'm not sure if I need to do anything special on your server or not... though I did manage to get disc 1 just fine.
[Edit: I do notice that it says 421 when connecting, instead of the regular 220 that get when I'm able to login to the server.]
-
OK ATTENTION EVERYBODY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

could you tell me exatcly what you did so I can make another post for people who have these problems?
Hey ZMan, when ya gonna get FS1 iso's up there?
As soon as I get some time.... Maybe tomorrow afternoon, or tonight if im not too busy....
thanks, Zman...
-
Maybe I should remind you that technically FS1 is not abandonware, even though FS2 might be. So distributing FS1 CD-images would be illegal. Sorry to say but us admins are obliged to at least remove links where you are able to download FS1 CD-images.
Instead, get FS2 and download the FreeSpace Conversion.
http://www.hard-light.net/forums/index.php/topic,21095.0.html
-
My goodness, you can pick up Freespace 1 + Silent Threat off of ebay for $10, if you really really want the original FS1 material. The FS conversion has the same stuff as the original. I'm not sure if the original music is there, but I know that the original music does not work with the FSC, unless you edit all the missions.
Anywho.. Dropping 10 measely dollars on a piece of history (Yes, I consider it that) is trivial! I'd understand not wanting to pay 50-100 dollars for FS2's re-relase some dood is selling on ebay, but egads...

then how come Stealth had an FTP set up with the FS1 ISO's uploaded on it? was that taken down?
(its in the Freespace 2 download thread by Matthew papa)
-
Nobody probably noticed while the CD-images where there, the link Stealth posted no longer works in any case.

ARGH! sometimes i try to access ur ftp server, all these strange things happen. sometimes it says "input user id and password" and stuff. i use anonymous user and it says that it was rejected. if i do somehow get in, i double click the FS2 disc 1.iso and it opens a new window. sometimes the window says page not found, sometimes it loads and never ends (5HOURS!) and I HAVE DSL! and wat do u do if u download it? i downloaded it and it said "UNKNOWN FORMAT" and stuff.

Unknown format? its a standard ISO image....
If you have trouble accessing it, try this:
Go into internet explorer, click tools and then internet options. Click the advanced tab and scroll down to the option that says "Use FTP in Passive Mode (required for DSL Modem or Firewall compatibility)"... if its checked, uncheck it and see if it works, if it was not originally checked, try checking it and try accessing the FTP again...
I gave those instructions to a person that was having trouble access it, and he said it is a breeze now... that should do it....
hope this helps, Zman...

Do you actually know what to do with an ISO when you have it nos_mercenary? (It's really hard to gauge someones technical skills from such a short post).
Just in case you don't.
You want to burn it to CD or better still use something like Nero or Daemon Tools to add a virtual CD drive to your PC which can read the ISO straight off your HD. It's generally a good idea to mount a file first so you can see if the ISO is corrupt rather than burning it and only finding out then.

thx alot.
-
Did the FTP instructions help?
-
I can connect to the ftp through firefox, not through IE, with or without unchecked - and when i try start the download through firefox, it times out.
-
I downloaded the HOTU Freespace 2 version. What am I supposed to get from the FTP to make it like the retail version? The site said there was a set of VP files but I don’t see them there.
-
This FTP isn't the one with the VPs on it. ZmaN is sharing the entire game rather than the files needed to make the HotU version work. If you can spare the bandwidth this is the better one to get really.
If you can't then you want Fractux's FTP (http://www.hard-light.net/forums/index.php/topic,16047.0.html).
-

I've been getting a lot of hits lately, and XP is hard coded to limit the connections to 10 connections at once.... when all ten are taken, it will time out....
-
since everyne is skipping this stepp, ill post it again...

Edit your first post in this thread with that information.
-
Is your FTP having problems? After every attempt at resuming file transfer times out, I decided to do a little digging, and I found this.
ftp> open 67.84.198.176
Connected to 67.84.198.176.
220 Microsoft FTP Service
User (67.84.198.176:(none)): anonymous
331 Anonymous access allowed, send identity (e-mail name) as password.
Password:
230 Anonymous user logged in.
ftp> ls
500 Invalid PORT Command.
150 Opening ASCII mode data connection for file list.
It will just stay at that point until I do a ^C. Login seems to work, but commands do not. Then I tried something else, just to see what I can see.ftp> dir
150 Opening ASCII mode data connection for /bin/ls.
What's this, /bin/ls on Microsoft FTP software? I think something may be wrong... but then again, that may be how it should be, I dunno MS FTP very well :blah:. If you can see me in your logs, I am the 71.197.x.x IP. Maybe there is something wrong on my end?
-
I'm not sure dude, and well i feel like im gunna die in my chair right now....
-
Guys, im msoooo sorry about this, but it seems my computer has gotten a virus and decided to crash today.... The whole thing cant start, and I need to do a repair install of windows XP Pro, get my data off (including FS2 CD Images) and reinstall windows....
Now, I dont know how long this is going to take, but for now, the computer is dead, meaning that the FTP is dead until its back up and running.... If I take too long, fell free to take the sticky down (although, i would prefer having it up, as My computer will have everything done in about a week or so)....
So in short, No FTP for a week, becuase windows decided to commit suicide.... I wouldnt be suprised if I got a WMF virus..... heck, thats probably it...
L8r...

Way to play the blame-shift game. :p
Oh so i did it!
yea its the way to play it!!! you should try it too!
-
Hi all. I've been looking for the hi res file for Freespace 2 all over the internet, and on P2P programs to no avail. I tried the ftp link in this thread and that doesn't seem to work either. Is there anywhere else I could find the extra files and possibly movies for freespace 2? Hoping for a reply
-
Try the other FTP thread in this forum. :)
I really ought to qualify that one in the FAQ :)
-
Its up!!!! I finish my XP install... got it running nice and smooth, and the FTP seems to be running faster too.... no time to log into it myself.... have fun people...
ftp://67.84.198.176/
-
If you noticed I took the link for the FTP out of the first post... K have been getting toooo many hits and my dad is complaining that the internet is going wayyyy to slow... (i didnt tell him i have an FTP hosting files)... If you want to access the ftp, you'll need to email me first and ask me for permission, I will set a time opening for it and that will be the only time you can access it... THE ONLY TIME!!!
-
Also, Donations would be appreciated.... PM for more info or if interested in donating to the FS2 hosting cause... this is serious... it costs money to run this FTP.... Dad gets upset when the internet runs slow and the FTP is the rreason why..
-
What would the money be going to? A faster connection?
Oh, advise people to download the ISOs later at night when your not using your connection too much.
-
The money would go to our Cable Internet bill... Maybe a faster connection, if The Cable Company can give that to me.... It slows the internet down and my dad is haing a really hard time with business so this would help me keep it up....
Its optional... You dont NEED to donate....
-
I know I don't need too I was just curious what it would actually go to. ;D
-
I was wondering if there is Freepspace 1 (Descent: Freespace - The Great War) and Silent Threat available for FTP transfer? I don't want to wait for long using bittorrent. Does anyone have those ISO images for Freespace 1 and Silent Threat?
-
Yeah, I'm DL-ing the Silent Threat ISO... i'm getting a typical 120-140 KB/sec... too bad my flash drive's too small, or i'd DL the other ISOs too...
-
could I Have the link to the FTP site...I am in in dire needof certain VP files...
-
PM ZmaN, he might give you the link.
(We are not allowed to give out his FTP's IP... if we do he might take it down, which would be bad for future FS-ers)
