Has there been/is there/will there be any sort of attempt to do performance benchmarking with FSO? I ask because I'm getting sub-10 FPSs, in both D3D and OGL in some Inferno (with SCP patch) missions with all graphics options, even after a massive upgrade.
What I had before:
Celeron 1200 on a generic VIA Apollo board
384 MB PC133 SDRAM
PNY GeForce3 Ti200 with 64 MB (AGP)
What I have now:
Sempron 64 2600+ (1.6 GHz) on AsRock nForce3 250 motherboard
512 MB DDR 400
XFX Geforce 6600GT with 128 MB (AGP)
How much of a performance boost should I have expected? Or is the mere fact that I'm running Inferno at high detail levels the culprit? Or some obvious optimization move that I've overlooked? I'm running 3.6.7 on Windows 2000 with Dx9 installed, although the video tab says that only D3D 8 is available.

You should be getting considerably better framerates than that.
What are your launcher flags?

Try it with something other than Inferno. Because most of their stuff was designed before HTL they tend to use lots of maps on their ships.
Answer Black Wolfs questions though. You should be able to run even Inferno better than that. :)

Soon as I get back home I'll get back to you on that...I'm at work, and I suspect that this Xeon 2 GHz rig with a Quadro2 EX graphics adapter isn't the optimal system for FSOpen :p

Try the main campaign with all the 3.6.6 mediaVPs except for mv_adveffects. You should get smooth framerates most of the time.

I can testify that I don't experience any problems when running Inferno, and you have me beat video-card wise at the least for system specs; I'm able to run with mv_adveffects at a reasonable framerate, as well. Sounds like you're having some type of conflict somewhere.

My tags are as follows: -spec -glow -pcx32 -jpgtga -d3dmipmap -3dwarp -fps . When running the regular campaign, I did notice that in the mission Exodus, my FPS would drop to about 14 every time an Erinyes appeared on screen, which strangely enough did not happen in other missions. I'm suspecting that I forgot to install some drivers for the NF3 and its associated components, and am running Windows compatibility mode drivers instead.

uh oh.....
I may have somw work to do in short order...

Turn off mipmapping and see what happens. You might want to turn PCX32 off too while you're at it.
