So you've got free MMORPGs like Runescape which have tolerable graphics and are kinda fun to play and you've also got space combat/trading games like Freelancer or EV which let you tool around in a spaceship and customize it and such. So my question is: are there any MMO Freelancer-like games that are free? Graphics aren't really an issue, I just want to fly around and show off my shiny spaceship instead of a shiny sword or whatever.

Not that I know of. I've been working on a singleplayer 2d space combat and trading game though ;)
A 3d MMO that's free might be the next step.

EvE is well worth the price :)
-
That is, if you like clicking on an enemy and watching your ship battle it for you :p

LOL Trust me, you wouldn't last long at all if that was all you did, battles in Eve are very tactical, the right equipment is what makes or breaks the combat.
At the end of the day, just about any combat game involves holding the cursor over the bad guy and clicking until he's dead ;)

Ever tried Starscape?

hmm... never heard of it. Actually I may have seen a banner ad or two. I'll check it out.

How's that coming and when can I test it on my Axim?

Jumpgate... but it's not free though...

You probably have. Nearly every web comic that I read has them.

Well, Starscape isn't really what I'm looking for. Only the demo's free anyway. I guess there aren't really any 'Runescape in space' kind of games. It's not a big deal though, I'm just looking for something to kill time when I have time to kill at school, I want something to do besides Warning Forever. So in that case, what's something that I can either play from the internet or fit on a 128MB flash drive (which doesn't have much free space) that will pass the time. I'm looking into things like Nethack. Is that any good?

Pretty slowly unfortunately. We're still working on the new PC GUI and the singleplayer campaign. The GUI's been a pain, but the campaign's been easy.

*comes back from attempting Nethack*
Whoa... that's a little too hardcore for me, even with some SVGA plugin thing. :P
I guess I'll just put snes9x on my flash drive to play at school and get back into Guild Wars for my MMO itch. Still, I think the world needs a free, spaceship-flying MMO kinda game. :nervous:

I want to make a game like that, seeing as my career will quite likely involve something like that. But, as of right now, it's not too likely to happen today. As my old saying goes:
If I could, I would; but I can't, so I shant.

Well as I said Jumpgate is exactly like what you described but sadly it is free only for 10 days. It's fun though... I used to play it quite a lot.
