Engineers here are testing a new kind of transparent armor -- stronger and lighter than traditional materials -- that could stop armor-piercing weapons from penetrating vehicle windows.

The Air Force Research Laboratory's materials and manufacturing directorate is testing aluminum oxynitride -- ALONtm -- as a replacement for the traditional multi-layered glass transparencies now used in existing ground and air armored vehicles.

This is further proof that Gene Roddenberry came from the future to give us ideas that would later be proven true via the medium of a sci-fi TV show.

What the F**k he was trying to tell us with Andromeda however is more of a mystery ;)

[color=66ff00]I thought his next line was even better:

"Keyboard... How quaint."

Makes me smile every time. As does the fact that Nichelle Nicols and Walter Koenig walked around in public asking where the nuclear wessels were. That bit isn't rehearsed. :)
