Ok this is the thread for the ship progress...
I got confirmation, the modler is happy with final result (visual). Now I have to get the weapon nailed down and do some small tweakage. IF someone who has done paths and such before let me know (perfer someone I've bumped into on occasion in the community) but a new person can volunteer provided they have done a complete conversion before. It's not that I can't, I just don't trust my comp due to cetain issues I won't get into.
It's a Mystery ship no more!
Primary Weaponry: One ventral mounted forward Gauss turrent he he...
Secondary Weaponry: One nose mounted Heavy Missile Battery (2 firing points)
Defenses: (need to create custom mines out of chaff. so any help with that would be appreciated)
Note, no Shielding system! Esthar combat technology focused on hull plating for a superior defense.
comments and critiques here...

Beautiful ship. Can't wait to check this one out for myself. :D

WMCs armor table might do the trick if you don't want to use shields. It requires however little tweaking to both ships and weapons tables as well as creating a new table file for armor. Even in its current (a little buggy) state it would do the job nicely without forcing the design to use ridiculous amounts of hitpoints.
However if you not planning any more of such ships then it might be best not to start toying around with the armor tables.

:eek2: :eek2: :eek2:
Awesome!!!
Two of my favourite game series meet.
Freespace + Final Fantasy
Looks very nice.
-
I bet the Rag. with it's reasonable cargo space it could make a super assault transport. Well it did have a family of large aliens living on it. :p With its forward pointing weapons I take that it's going to be more of a fighter.
BTW, will the arms animate in any way?
Also anytime this ship is used you have to have Ride On as the BGM!
-
After I played FS2 and then played FF8 I knew that this ship would have to somehow make it into freespace, and now it has. Excellent work.

Thanks.. I posted this as a wip long ago on Sectorgame I think. back then I didnt realise one of teh occasional problems with textures I was havign ws they converted Upside Down down! It made the model look horrible and I had no clue what was really going on then. BY accident workign witht eh Gundam mod I was experimenting becuase I had fianl version modles and textures and screens of results to go by so I knew something was really wrong and kept at trying stuff... (sometimes a 90 or 180 rotation will do wonders...).
Armor table in the future is a great idea (when/if it is officially implimented as standard SCP feature). But for now insane hit points is best. Will compare to existing weapons armor when I go back and review the latest calculations at stite's site for the mega crossover projects (mine and his)... Seems his site is down???
NOt really rushing but, but I'l ge twhat I can done liek a dock point and screw aroudn with the primary a bit. Maybe Turkey day I'll have an update as I have other things I prioritized, it's just that I got the go ahead email back and jumped into it.. (This was a Freelancer Conversion).
Dabrain, if you think you can tweak the texturea a bit I would encourage it! Some of the details are obscured a little... It didn't glow before so I made a primitive glow map and for now it has very few glowy parts.
-
Don't ever trust Modelview with displaying textures correctly. The standard :v: ships all have their UV coordinates specified in (I think) negative V-space, which makes modelview think they are tiled and display them correctly. It's when you have maps specified only in the 0-1 range (conventional UV mapping) that modelview looks completely silly, in my experience. They usually look fine in-game. Unless you do your modeling in a different piece of software from Truespace or Max.
And armor.tbl is an officially supported feature. Buggy still, yes, but it's there and you can certainly start experimenting with it.
-
Cool...never really expected to see Ragnarok in FS2, looks amazing though.
-
ARE YOU SERIOUS??????????????????
*Takes deep Breath*
I love that ship, and I love FF8. Any idea on a release? I'd help, but I've just started making ships myself (The GTC Great big Cube, to be exact ;) ]

If you don't need it anytime soon, I'll work on it. ;)

Have at it mister :P Whenever you get around to it...
DL link of vastly unfinished Beta for the masses, as I know how often I see something I love that never appears:
http://www.fileh.com/GRG/ragnarok.rar
You need to just copy a Uly table entry for now. The one I use has all sorts of experimental wepons from various mods so it's a mess.
Mr big, I made the GTC Great cube also... Took me MONTHS to get it to even fire :( I have no illusions about my lack of ability so I am just happy when I can do minor things. It's the people that actualy know how to model and make texture maps that people like me can use I have absolute respect and admiration for. This is a great and active community despite the age of the original game and I've almost never have had so much fun then here on HLP.
*Ahem* Richard Knox model - FCX experimental battle cruiser
USS Excalibur

I believe in game scale, NOT book numbers, that's the main diff between my efforts and Omni's. Here I have the Uly over the nav dome for sense of scale...

Looking forward to the day we can have cutscenes where the bay doors open and you see your ship go inside a textured fed shuttle/fighterbay...
I think I got darn near good visual scale despite the 934 meter length... If you want to fly them wait for Omni, if you want to be overwhelmed by it then you're on my level...

r0xx0rs!!!! Thanks, Robo!!!!!! (I'm new at internet language, hope I spelled that correctly. :p)
-
That looks like a modified Excelsior. The nacelles and and pylons are from an Sovereign, though...
-
The ship is of the Excelsior MK II line.
partially correct, the nacells are (but modified) the pylons are NOT. If you want more details look it up (Richard Knox, Excalibur). I just convert I am not a modler.
-
Sweet :D Raggy goodness.
-
I didn't say they were modified, I said you used the pylons from a Sovereign class ship. On review it looks like you might have angled and swept back the pylons which was never done.
Here are a couple images in which you can see what the nacelle pylons on the Excelsior class ships looked like.

Finally, one last question. That cutout you made on the front of the saucer, where did that come from?

We can already do that... can't we?
-
You're fairly new so I'll be extremely polite (ignore my join date I got here in 2002, so you really don't know me)..... I hate to repeat myself as you didn't read my posts very carefully...
NOTE: I am NOT a modler, I do almost nothing with 3d programs except point YOUR models in the right direction or maybe resize them. I barley know how to make a (single part) turret and add it to a model without a catestrophic error... My greatest achievement to date in the 3 years I have tried to mod FS2 is: primitive glow mapping :D
As I said BEFORE, you (specifically) will have to take those issues up with the modler of the ship, not me... I only reiterated what he has posted. Do not start Trek debates with me about models as I don't know or care if he uses a dented garbage lid for the saucer
There was a similar misunderstanding about the 2 B5 ships I posted that were fan concepts I did not know. I got the modler's permission and converted them but I had no idea they were Fabio's original concept and people jumped all over me about it. (my stand, don't like it don't use it but dont have issues with me, my concious is clear. I have never claimed credit for ANYTHING and most likely never will as I am like a goa'uld, merely a modding parasite)
I just meant this to be as clear and factual as possible, this was not meant in a rude or harsh manner. I just wanted to make sure you understood when ever someone keeps talking to me like I know things like UV Maps, Vertices, or assumes I know anything about 3d modling I can only look at my screen like
:wtf:
Ok I'm really NOT that clueless, but lets just say my modling attempt ended with the GTC Great Cube... (lucky for the Multi-Verse!)
With that stated... GAME ON !!!
-
gonna end this thread and start a new one... Getter's Single Ships. One ship, one release at a time plus with simple errors I can get answers to like my Goa'uld Strike Carrier... Next thread!
-
My apologies. Hopefully the person who made this ship model will take a look at the pics I linked to.
-
He has never been here to my knowledge...
Try Bridge Commander or SFC3 forums. Last I heard he has retired from modding but is listed in the posting of the "Model Permissions" listed at BC.com, otherwise I wouldn't use his work (he is listed under the category of "no contact needed, only credits").
-
Nah. Sounds like a waste of time. I'll just call it a Mark III Excelsior variant concept and move on.

In terms of cutscenes as are generally understood, no. But in terms of in-game cutscenes using sexps and such and in terms of the model being in-game itself, then yes. The 3D animation code allows for that.
Given that whatever space behind those doors is modelled correctly, you can have them animated to open up, have a ship fly in and depart the mission, and have the doors close again.
Or at least that's my delusion
As for the Ragnarok...I love you.
-
There isn't any TGA/24-Bit version of the textures by any chance?
Upgrading PCXs is a bit more work than I had in mind...
-
would opening one in irfranview and usign batch convert > TAG 245 bit work? Navtive textures were bmp's I believe (freelancer conversion). I dont have the priginals as this was last year. I only have the bmps I made pcx's from.
-
Well, I can easily set it to 24-Bit color, but that won't bring the colors back...
-
You know, I was randomly looking on google for inspiration for a mech space combat game I'm working with and remembered the old ragnarok from Ff8 and thought "that would make an awesome space mech" I put in google to get images of it, and then I see this amazingness.
Your awesome, theres nothing else to say.
And just because your awesome heres a little bit of something for thought.
The Ragnarok, a Fenrir class warship designed, as all Fenrir class warships are, for heavy agressive campaigns. Designed to be able to weave about it's larger adversaries with the grace of a hawk in flight, the ragnarok comes equiped with Arcnet insertion technology. Utilizing a vorpal space sphere, the Arcnet pylons can be launched and attached to the side of enemy ships. Once the sphere has stablized, guerrilla fighters can be 'Arced' from an onboard vorpal space port to the pylon, allowing for entire armies to be transported to the hull of the enemies ship. All the while the ragnarok engages in high speed combat, distracting it's prey from the incoming danger. Utilizing missiles, drones, and one of the most advanced control systems ever created, The ragnarok is a formidable hunter of the universe, and sorrow to the armada that thinks to make it it's prey.
Little bit from the game were working on, let me know if you like it or not.
course, won't matter either way.

Two small notes: 1, as far as I am aware, Getter Robo G never released this model to the community. 2, bumping an 8-year-old thread is not a nice thing to do.
-
:nono:
But I like the factoids, is that canon?
-
Nope.
-
:wtf: What's star trek doing here?
