Title: Doom Movie Sucked
Post by: Triple Ace on October 21, 2005, 09:25:20 pm: I just got back from seeing it. There are so many things wrong with this movie I don't know if I can name them all. The movie has nothing to do with hell and the monsters are just mutated people. There were only about four montsers used they are the zombie, Imp, Hell Knight, and the Pinky Bulldog Demon. The only one they got right was the bulldog. The imp does not throw fireballs, instead it has a long tougne like the licker from Resident Evil. The first person sequence was only a few minutes and was near the end. As for the end, well there really was not one. It was one of those endings that tells you there will probably be a sequal. If there is I won't see it.

Why don't they do games with good art design or characterizations? American McGee's Alice would blow your socks off, visually. I hear he's got Oz in production, though...

Oh God!! Nothing could be worse than that God-awful freak of nature. If Doom was actually worse than RE:A, i'm sure people would be running out of the cinemas with blood coming from their eyes and ears...

Post by: deep_eyes on October 22, 2005, 12:54:10 am: given the fact that if it was written to its true demonic force, it prob woulda made some lawmakers go ape lol.... i just came from it, personally i have my own views thinking it coulda went a different route... but i think overall it was a way better adaption than some other game-to-movie's of the past.

and remember, if it was made like FFA: AC than it might have just looked a heck of a lot better u know? other than that, recreating the environments as big as the game was isnt a easy feat. if anything, this shoulda been resident EVIL lol!

i dont care i still liked it.

Post by: deep_eyes on October 22, 2005, 12:57:10 am: btw if Halo or Half Life were made into movies, it had to be done like lord of the rings for example. doom u see with is many parts, is technically the same thing, over and over again, but done diffrently and better each time. doom never had a big ass story or deep ideological thinking except in its demonic nature that made it what it was. but in doom3 they went somewhere with the story, although the game ending waskinda of a let down, the truth is that the story coulda stuck to that of DOOM3... which i think woulda made a bigger difference and been more entertaining and believable than unmapping the human Genone and finding out that the 24th chromasone is GOD MODE LOL!. it woulda been nice to see a cyberdemon or a revenant too...

and a shot gun...
and a rocket launcher...
and the plasma gun... (oh wait it was apart of the BFG!)
and a soul cube....
or berserker pack....

did anyone notice reapers eyes at the end? they were different. he had the god mode eyes....?!

And yeh, doom aitn got much of a story so not much you can do sides see lots of gore kiling pointlessly loosely tied in wiht a plot.

half?.. try two thirds. vidgames with an engrossing story to them are few and far between, and movies... don't get me started, Hollywood's lame, let's face it, original plots are rare as hen's teeth, almost all of them are rather predictable.. like Standard action movie 28834-b starring some actor whose obviously in it for the money playing the same, tired character mold, (see: Typecast, See also: Stephen Segal, or Van-Damme)

The developers (Bungie) have ensured that they are entwined with the movie making process so they have some control over things.

Plus Peter Jackson! And WETA!

There may actually be a glimmer of hope for it coming out at least semi-decent.

You can't actually publish that little tidbit without getting slammed in the press, but you would expect the lead actor to know what his gun (since it's the penultimate weapon in the game/movie) is called.

I suppose tomb raider came as a disappointment to the people expecting a movie where lara croft jumped between square-shaped pillars to solve stupid puzzles in low-texture caves.

angie does her part quite well, I must say. people expecting an action-puzzle game made movie to be exceptional and intelligent are dumber than the script.

Angelina Jolie did a pretty good job taking on the role, both personality-wise and physically. ;7 The only other video-game-based movies I've seen were Mortal Kombat 2 (on multiple occasions...TNT used to show it all the time a few years ago for some unknown reason) and the end of Street Fighters, and both of those took the definition of "cheesiness" to new and scary heights. :p

Two, that comic hit the nail on the head and as I expected they didn't do the hell theme but I was ok with it. I just wanted some mindless entertainment and see Rock blow people/monsters away... For my $7 bucks I wa satisfied seeing it on a big screen...

At least it wasn't the travestry known as Wing Commander...

Did you know that they are working on a Quake movie? It's based on Q2 and Q4 (humies vs Strogg). id Sofware began working on it before they got Doom out. Supposedly 'cos id Sofware had so much "fun" doing Doom... :rolleyes:
