Title: FSopen, Noob Help, installing
Post by: Tromboneman on October 22, 2005, 11:13:08 am
I recently fell across this project. I played FS1 and FS2 awhile ago, and they obviously were really great games. I am so glad to see that people are still working on the game, and that it is still alive.

I am attempting to get used to this new FSopen source thing. I have installed the .vp from scp, as well as FS open. I was able to play the game but after while it started to quit on me, and now when it tries to load right near the end, it gives me a frames to long error.

I would post the debug dump but I am not sure where to find it.

Also while loading in the debug mode, it says that I am missing files. I noticed in the HUD that I am missing the shield screens. Also the hercs mark II look cartoonish.

Can anyone help me install this stuff correctly?

here are the errors at the end of loading

Assert: instance->frame_num >= 0 && instance->frame_num < instance->parent->total_frames

The cartoonish stuff is almost certainly due to you having mv_cell.vp installed. The whole point of that is to make things look cartoonish (it's for anime based campaigns etc.)

Go into your Freespace 2 folder and post the first 10 lines or so from a file called errorlog.txt if you have it.

Ok so I figured out what caused it. I changed the resolution to 1280x1024x32

But when I change it back to 1024x768, the same thing happens, its like it permantly breaks it.

So how do I fix it now??

Try using OpenGL

I was using opengl, it happens with opengl and dx 5 and 8. I am so confused.

I take all the FSopen files out, and then copy new ones in, and it still does the same thing. I take out all the files modified today, and it still does the same thing. So I have no idea what to do.

Has this happend to anyone else?

Which build and vp files are you using anyway? It would also be useful to know what sort of graphics card you have, what features you have enabled and so forth.

I am using build 3.6.7

MY gfx is Gforce4 4200 64mb
cpu athlon xp 2000+ and 768mb RAM

The only features I had enabled were the jpg/tif everything else was default. I had 1024x768x32

I do not have any vp's installed except for the ones that come with the media 3.6.7

I just stumbled on this site- I have had FS 2 forever. My question is how do you go about using the SCP. I have been reading some of the posts but apparently I am not comprehending the steps that need to be taken. Any help would be appreciated, thanks.

You both could start by reading the installation part from the fsdoc (link is at forum topbar). Also remove mv_cell.vp if you have happened to install it.
