I posted this about Jordan a few months ago, but search is bloody borked, and I need the link again. Rictor, could you post/PM the link?
For others, I'm looking for info on the military of Kenya.
-
I think you're going to have a bit of trouble with Kenya, on account of it being a relatively poor African nation, so military info would be "some guys with AKs". I'll have a look around a bit later, but which information do you need to know? There a very, very broad overview here ("http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Military_of_Kenya").

Or more likely "some guys with rocks". :p

You posted a link to a site containing army info on pretty much anything, just numbers of planes, tanks, men.
EDIT: It was a site with a camo background, an drop down selection boxes for the countries, per continent.

They've got lions and tigers.

Got lions and tigers only in Kenya. (http://www.weebls-stuff.com/toons/kenya/)

Forget Norway.
-
Only in Kenya! (http://www.weebls-stuff.com/toons/kenya+live/)

Indeed. :D But that's not what I was getting at...
-
You mean this ("http://armyreco.ifrance.com/")? It doesn't list Kenya.
You can also go here ("http://www.globalsecurity.org/index.html") and type Kenya into the search. Again, they don't have military stats and so forth, but it does list articles from which you might be able to glean something useful.
Might I ask why you need this? I'm not sure the Kenyans are even that interested in their own military, so I don't see why anyone else would be.

Zulus sar! Farzends of em!
what? :nervous:

I suspect it was what Goober was getting at though.
-
So the CIA World Factbook doesn't cut it for this?
-
I need this so we can re-enact a UN session in Oxford next week.
And no, CIA world factbook won't cut it. Pity that site doesn't list Kenya, because it looks like the one I meant.
Ah well, at least I've found that one site, that was bugging me.
And shut up about the lions already, I've got the bloody tune stuck in my head all week. :p
-
If you mean the CIA World Factbook lacking Kenya, it doesn't. I gave the link right to the page on Kenya, and the section on military.

no he meantet the other site.
-
CIA world factbook is one of the first things I checked, together with Wikipeida. I'm not entirely stupid. Problem with military info is that it's generally not on either of those behond basic manpower stuff. It's more about when they bought what, and when they decommisioned what.
-
Did you pick Kenya or were you assigned it? Kind of a bum rap to get stuck with Kenya, if you ask me. All of Africa is really shit for modern militaries, except Egypt and South Africa (mofos got themselves the longest range artillery in the world, and their own MBT).
In any case, it doesn't seem as if there is any public-access info on Kenya's military. If I were you, I'd assume they're using some variant of the AK, probably not the 100 series, and a bunch or irregulars. And just forget about modern mechanized units or a real airforce. Like I said, Africa isn't exactly a military powerhouse.
edit: if it helps, here are some photos of a military exercise taking place in Kenya.
http://media.militaryphotos.net/photos/Exercise_Edged_Mallet_Kenya
edit2: Hmm, seems they're using G3s. At least that's something. Also, I've seen two pictures so far of Kenyans in an armoured vehicle, IDed as the Ferret Mark 2 (pictures ("http://www.military-vehicle.net/ferret2.htm") and info (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ferret_armoured_car#Mk_2))
-
I got it assigned, we needed a country with English as a primary language, we chose Canada, we got Kenya.
G3? I'm only half knowledgable about military stuff anyways.
IIRC their airforce is mainly occupied with flying refugees to and fro', and crashing. Not too sure what stuff they use, probably old Soviet equipment anyway.
-
The G3 is pretty famous weapon, German made (was the main assault rifle for the Budeswehr before the G36 was introduced in the late 90s). Not the latest generation of ARs, but still competent. You can easily find info about it. It's widely exported, I know Mexico uses it, as do Brazil, Turkey, Norway and so on.
edit:
ha! I found their main battle tank. It's the Vickers Mark 3 ("http://army-guide.com/eng/product.php?prodID=907") (makers of the Challenger line, used in many NATO countries) and apparently they've got 78 of them.
edit: They appear to be using the Mi-8 ("http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mil_Mi-8") helicopter. There's a picture of one (or what appears to be one, I'm kind of weak on choppers) with "Kenya Army" painted on the side. It's a Russian bird.
I don't think it's possible to find our much more than this. You've got info on 4 pieces of hardware on a small and pretty obscure military. Not too bad.
And just for ****s and giggles, here's a real picture posted on the British MoD website: http://news.mod.uk/img/pressdatabase/images/supportingImages/large/kenya1_tn.jpg
-
Thanks for the info, I'm sure it'll help at least a bit.
-
Man, I don't know where you go to school, but I would bet good money that no one even knows which weapons the UK uses, much less any other country. Ask someone what cailber standard NATO bullets are. You could pretty much invent a military from scratch and I doubt anyone would notice. Try telling them that Kenya has a squad of F-22s, see if anyone calls bullsh*t.

Not my school, wed're all off to Oxford, itnernational gathering. As an aside, the University of Leiden club is getting all sorts of projects, meetings and stuff from ambassadors to the guy who runs the second largest MUN in the world, and we got one hour in a comp lab, with the message of 'go find some info'.
Lovely, eh?
