Yeah, most of the gameplay is the same, but now it looks better and then it can handle more. Have you guys gotten it yet? I got it, and I ****ing love it. The only reason I took the time to stop playing it and post here is because my dads aging processor is heating up a bit much.
-
Not out in UK.
-
Is it out for consoles yet?
-
Well, there's Call of Duty 2 and Call of Duty 2: Big Red One. If the first games console port is any indication, Big Red One will suck. Therefore, the console CoD2 (X360, so you probably won't be interested) is out on 11/15, a week before you will be able to play it.
-
Why would you EVER play an FPS for a console? Aside from Goldeneye and Perfect Dark, of course.
-
Because my consoles are connected to a 41 inch HDTV and DD 5.1, whereas my computer is not. Plus I can lay down on my couch and play rather than developing carpal tunnel on my keyboard.

same here

Already bought F.E.A.R. and Quake 4, I was hoping to hear some more about CoD2 before I splurged for it.
Ya know.. you both can hook your PC's up to the TV somehow, dont know how good it would look though, and get wireless keyboard/mouse combos and lay on the couch. Though, you'd look really wierd doing that I bet. :D

Yeah, my Bro did that a few years ago, after he broke his monitor (which the bastard borrowed from me). From what I remember from a few years back, it can be a little blurry, but with the high def TVs you get nowadays, i'd be interested in seeing how it would look... of course, there's a chance something might burn out or melt when you try it... which is why i'm waiting for someone else to do it first :D...

So true. So very, very true.
Anyway, I don't find it a matter of getting carpal tunnel(I've gamed since Wolfenstein 3D on PC) so much as difficulty of control. Point and click is much simpler than using your thumbs to move and look around, and if you're unlucky, to shoot as well(lucky being using the shoulder triggers). Ah well.. to each his own.

hey, speaking of those games, how are they?? I read reviews on Quake 4 and F.E.A.R. I cant play fear, its too bloody, ill get in trouble (sadly), but I was definitly looking into Quake 4.... how is the gameplay, graphics, sound, eetc?? also, can the blood be turned off? no big deal if it cant, but it would be nice....
-
The blood in FEAR does disappear. (heh, rhymes) But in Quake 4 has some more nasty stuff than pure blood and cuts. Limbs being sawed off, mutilated bodies hooked up to machinery, etc.
Overall, buy both. Each is great in their own way.
-
Lower body being sawed off actually. And F.E.A.R allows you to turn off blood AND seperation (which makes it much, much, more realistic).

maybe so, but not the canniblism and F words (unless Im wrong, correct me if so).... i wish someone made a mod to make any M gamre to a T game (ratings)...
EDIT: and can anyone recomend some more FPS's for me?? couldnt seem to find any good ones (ahemm, red faction!)
-
I think most of the big ones have gotten mentioned in here, Z. There's Half Life 2(I don't think anyone said anything about that), Half Life 1+ expansions, DooM 3, the old DooMs... I'm sure there are other good ones out there, but I don't get into a bunch of stuff for monetary reasons, hence my lack of knowledge.

As far as single player goes, all of the recent ones are basically mediocre to varying degrees. Splinter Cell Chaos Theory is a big exception, although that's technically a TPS. Other than that, the last genuinely good one was Deus Ex Invisible War, although it was a major letdown nonetheless.
Why not?
Because the controls are designed by monkeys. :p The biggest improvement the 360 or PS3 could have is to allow the use of a proper mouse/KB setup.

Well, there's Halo 1 and 2. Which really should be rated T. I don't understand how the hell it gets an M rating, considering you don't have strong language (some language yes) and you always are shooting alien things with rediculously stylized purple/blue/green blood. And even though the flood are very detailed in Halo 2, they move to fast to get a great look at.

Today i just herd from G4 TV, that The Big Red One, is going to come for GC also, and i was surprized. But il prolly just save up for the 360 and buy that version of it. Proly best graphics.
Pray for me guys, im switching from Nientendo to Micorsoft. GameCube to Xbox (eww..)360.
GC controler is the best. N64 is 2nd best. And Xbox has the thickest fatest GAYEST controler of all time. OR atleast that iv seen recently. Dam them, il have to start likeing their controler now..

Rubbish. :p
For one thing, keyboards are stupidly designed; your traditional WASD design places the 'back' key in the wrong position, the auxiliary buttons (say... 1-9 for weapons, shift for run, etc) are uncomfortably positioned, and pressing too many buttons at once causes an error. Not to mention the hell of the windows start key.
What you mean is, you're used to PC FPS controls. That's all.
-
Despite those setbacks, (although I don't quite understand how 'back' is in the wrong position), I still think the keyboard is better because it simply has more buttons to allocate to numerous functions. I find that console controllers very often force the game's controls into a time-consuming mess of hierarchical menus because they just don't have enough buttons to give one to each function.
-
'Back' is not in the direct 'down' position; it's on the same row as left and right, and more importantly is offset slightly to the right. Cursor keys solve that to a degree, but then you lose, for example, the Q and E lean buttons, etc.
Both have their own advantages, of course. But I always regarded the keyboard as somewhat of a liability for many games that are quicker paced; especially sports, driving or 3rd person action games. Shooters are IMO a toss-up; one the one hand the mouse is somewhat easier (usually) to aim with, on the other hand you don't get the same sort of intuitiveness with an MF controller designed to have easy finger access for both hands (which applies for all games, really).
You couldn't really do a Zelda game or Pro Evo on a keyboard/mouse, for example.... nor could you really do an RTS on a PS2 joypad, either.

WASD is almost as bad. :p 8792 with 8-button mouse all the way. There are almost always enough buttons on the numpad to be able to keep your hand in one position all the time. The thing with the simultaneous keypresses can be fixed by just using a USB keyboard.
Seriously, aiming with those analog sticks is so bad that most consoles FPSs have a weak aimbot built in to add a bit of accuracy. They work well for other types of games but are terrible for FPSs.

I geuss you haven't seen the new controller.

USB keyboards, IIRC, can cause problems on bootup for many machines as the BIOS doesn't natively detect them.
The numpad has, for some reason or the other, never actually worked for games for me. Also it's running into the other problems in terms of desk space (I physically can't do that in my current desk because I'm left handed and I have a sort of bookcase thing on that left side), and more importantly it's still non-intuitive as you have to stretch those fingers; and the pinkie is rendered totally useless unless you contort your hand.
Anyways, I think there's pretty strong evidence the Pc setup isn't perfect, which is my whole point.

Regardless of aiming....I know there are people who would - vehemently - disagree (for one thing, my mouse has developed an odd habit of reversing pitch randomly), but to be honest who gives a **** so long as the game is fun. Goldeneye, IMO of course, on the N64 had a weak (but perfectly judged) autoaim effect and to this day it is the best FPS I have ever played. Because it's not just about the mechanics of aiming, is it?
Hell, there's even an arguement for the mouse removing the skill of it; just look at, say, the ludicrous system used in BF2 where they seem to randomly direct bullets in order to make it reasonably challenging to hit someone.
Not to mention - you're (I bet) more used to aiming with a mouse than a joypad.
Thinking about it.... the Revolution controller could be ****ing ace for FPS'.........
-
If I get any of the new consoles (ie if I have enough money for one and still be able to eat), the Revolution is first choice so far.
And I'm going to get CoD2, but I'm waiting until it goes down in price a bit. Same for FEAR. £35 for a game is just too much for me....
