Title: Memory usage
Post by: Black Wolf on May 16, 2003, 06:07:50 am
I've been trying to use FS2 Open 3.4 and the corresponding FRED release, and all I can say is... WTF did you do to it? I am getting practically constant memory errors, I can't even run a semi complex mission without it CTDing due to being out of memory (keep in mind that FS2 standard runs fine on his system).
I have 128 meg of ram, and I am planning to get more as soon as I can afford it, but FS2 standard does work fine - is this a memory allocation bug in FS open, or is it just the result of a crapload of new, memory hogging stuff being added?

Wihtout more sepcifics on the CTD's I can't tell you.

It's possible some memory allocation is screwed, it's possible that the crashes aren't actually memory errors, it's possible you have some bad RAM, and it's possible that some of the components are using more memory.

Log some bugzilla bugs, with as much detail as you can muster and we'll look into it is hte best I can offer ATM.

I run it on a Toshiba Satellite Laptop, which started out with 256 RAM of which 16 megs is for the Trident video card. I haven't had any issues.

Earliy builds DID seem to have an issue with machines with 64 megs or less.
