...because my dad's alvarez is getting a little banged up from the extended stay in my room, and i cant hook it up to a pedal. I would like an electric, but i have absolutly no idea which one to get, but if i did, it would probably be in the $150-$250 and at that price i could buy plenty of stuff to go along with it :D
soooo............. any suggestions?
-
fender's squier line has some inexpensive guitars. they suck ass though. the plugs loosen easily and the tone from the construction and shoddy pickups isn't all that great. if if you can handle the crappiness until you can save up for a decent mid-range guitar ($500-1000 range) then get it.
-
Out of your price range, but Les Paul... mmmm... maybe you could find a used one?

Well, as a suggestion, I'd like to seriously query your desire for an electric. :)
-
lol setekh.
Electric is ok.
Though it is hard to beat a decent acustic guitar with a pickup.
Get some eric clapton into yah, that'd do you some good :p

:D Seriously, though. I appreciate the want for an electric, but I want to make sure it's justified. For many people, an acoustic is much more appropriate, but they just go straight to electric without putting in more thought. :)
And btw, go Eric Clapton. :D

[color=66ff00]Drew get yourself a Yamaha pacifica, a 112 is just over £100 UK and has a great build and tone. Plays very well too.
All of this has made it a very sought after first electric.
Take a look here: Review (www.consumerlowdown.com/guitars/yamahapacifica112electricguitar.html)
I agree with just about everything that this guy says and the metal jack plate costs about £3 so if you think it's an issue at least you know it's not a costly one.

Out of couriosity (and because I plan to start learning it next season) how much does your average acoustic bass-guitar cost?
-
Get the KoRn K-7.
It has an extra string and everything.
-
except the low B string sounds like crap when its distorted, it gets way too muddy. There's some special circuitry that can be built into the pickups to overcome this. The lowest I tune anyways is Db, but im usually in E or Eb

well you cant really hook up my dads alvarez to a pedal can you :P I saw some really nice pirces on ebay, les pauls for $150 and such (my freind bought his gibson les paul on ebay for like 175) and a really nice dimond series somthing somthing for $175
iv heard good things about yamahas from my other freinds, maytble i check the pacifica out
-
[color=66ff00]Make sure it's not an epiphone which are a whole different kettle of fish from a Gibson.
I can see an epi selling for 175 but Gibson LP's are pretty pricey.

-
your right it was an epiphone
whcih is like 600 bucks retail around here
-
I'll go with Maeg on this one, Squier's are crap, the Pacifica is an excellent value guitar.
-
i learned to play on a stratocaster, and i'd say for starting off, start playing on an electric, just because it's easier on your fingers than an acoustic guitar. although if i could go back in time i'd rather have started playing on an acoustic, rather than going through the pain and callouses of playing on an electric, and just when i get used to it, i pick up an acoustic, and it starts all over again ;)
If you can play an acoustic guitar, then you can play any electric with no problem
-
I'd have to agree with Maeg and 01010 about the Pacifica 112. Although, because it's so highly rated, you can sometimes find higher-spec Pacificas for less money! I saw a top-end Pacifica (I think it was the 912) for £20 less than the 112 in one shop. Look around, and I'm, sure you'll find something you like. I personally went straight for an Epi SG - it just felt so much better than all the strat-a-likes that seem to dominate the budget ranges. I'm saving up now, and I'm torn between a PRS Santana SE2, a full-on Gibson (SG or Explorer or Voodoo Les Paul) or a Peavey Wolfgang (my teacher's got one and it's sweeeet )
One thing I would say though - get a decent amp. A £2000 Lesbo will sound bloody awful if you put it through an el-cheapo amplifier. I'd recommend the Marshall MG series to start with. They're cheapish, and they sound pretty good. Then upgrade to a DSL when you have the cash :D
kasperl: an acoustic bass? They're not gonna be cheap. I can't say I've ever seen a budget/mid range one of those...

you're probably looking at anywhere from less than $100 to a few hundred $ if you buy it online.
-
i talked with a dude at work who has a fretless bass and he was like, Skrew the pacifica and get a stratocaster.... bull****
so the pacifica is a good deal eh? sweet ill look into that one...anything elese to look out for?
-
don't get a BC rich unless its an NJ series. just a word of warning for future reference

I didn't say you should stick with that old Alvarez, but I can hook up my acoustic to a pedal. Get a semi. :p

It's about as mutch as Ibanez GIO :) acustic bass guitars are quite expencive... I have an electric one :) ... I think it's better to buy an electric one if you want to learn bass... acustic bass really sucks ass, well... except if you are outside :D

I hate Strats. They're ugly, they sound nasty and they're far too popular. If any non-player talks about guitars, the first thing he mentions will be a Stratocaster. If you get a Fender, get a Fat Telecaster (humbucker in the bridge). Much better.
Sorry, bit of a rant there.
Setekh: I wouldn't get a semi-acoustic, personally. They're kind of useless because they don't sound as good as acoustics when they're unplugged, and you can't drive them as much when they're wired up because of the ghastly feedback you'll get. Try cranking up the gain next time you plug your acoustic in, and you'll see what I mean...:D
You'd be better off getting a nice acoustic (a Taylor or something) as well as a solidbody. Of course, that means you have to spend more...

Well, I used to play the double bass (you know, 4 strings, XXXXL Violin) 3 years back, but I want to get back into music with something a bit more capable of sounding good on it's own, and a little bit more portable. Normal guitar seems a bit too, well, often played, and bass seems to be something you're always welcome with. And electric, well, I would like to be capable of playing without amps, and to have a go at the more classical stuff too.

ofc if i want to play The Who or somthing ill stick to the alvarez but if i want to ripp some creed or somthing, stuff like that sounds a hell of alot better on an electric. An acoustic electric isnt what i had in mind, cuz i alreay have an acoustic i can play and iv always wanted an electric since i saw my classmate play with his....
bout the stratocaster thats exactly what i though when he said it, im out to buy a beginner guitar not blow half my summer salary on it

[color=66ff00]A tele? Twang! Yuck! Far too much high end for me, sounds like someone making guitar sounds through their nose.
I do have a 68 re-issue olympic white strat (the real deal) looks and sounds magnificent. :D
Each to their own as they say.

i keep heating ppl ***** about strats and squires soo im a little confused...
-
[color=66ff00]I've heard that Fender have got their act together as far as the squier range goes, used to be that they were substandard sound and componenets but they've been getting decent reviews recently.
Still I'm sticking woth my inital recomendation, the Pacifica really is a good guitar.

That's expensive. If you want a 7-string get a Samick. I got mine for under $150. Good quality. Excellent tuning pegs (best I've felt). The body is kind of heavy but nothing too bad.

I have my 7-string tuned AEADGBE. Sounds decent enough for any Korn song I've ever needed to play. :D

[color=66ff00]Looks like an ash body, never did think the extra string was worth the effort though.
