Anyway to turn them off? They make my game really choppy. If it helps my specs are 1.6 Athlon, 384 ram, and a GeForce FX 5200 Ultra 128.

Yeah, you should really not use the explosion. My setup is somewhat similar to yours.
If you're using the latest media vp, delete mv_hieffects.
However, if you do that you need to either extract the hi-res planet textures first, or alternatively, download the old mv_hiplanets from here (http://gaming.playnow.ca/freespace/mv_hiplanets.exe).
I'm just uploading the file now, so give me 2 minutes.
Cheers!

I'm not sure on how to delete stuff from a vp file.
-
Then just delete the 'mv_hieffects.vp' file, and put the 'mv_hiplanets.vp' I linked to in your fs2 root directory.
-
I downloaded the big file and not the seperate ones.
-
Then check the wiki, and do a search for VPVIEW.
-
Ah... heh... ok.
So here's what you do then.
Download and install the VP constructor suite from the Alliance Productions FS2 Kit [ http://alliance.sourceforge.net/files/Software/AllProFS2Kit.exe ]
Download and install the Decent manager tools from [ http://www.descent-network.com/cgi-bin/descmankit.cgi?kit=fskit ]
You can use these tools to extract all of the files from the VP, and then rebuild the VP without the explosion effects.
Or just leave the stuff in the different data directories, it may be easier that way for you. then go delete the folowing files:
exp05.ani
exp05_1.ani
exp05_2.ani
exp05_3.ani
exp06.ani
exp06_1.ani
exp06_2.ani
exp06_3.ani
exp20.ani
exp20_1.ani
exp20_2.ani
exp20_3.ani
ExpMissileHit1.ani
ExpMissileHit1_1.ani
ExpMissileHit1_2.ani
exp04.ani

lol, I like the new look. And it runs fine on my PC! :D
-
I like the new explosions. And the flak actually looks like shrapnel now. Well done.
-
Thanks :)
Well, there is something messed up which will cause slowdown for lower spec systems - but that will eventually be fixed (see other thread).
