hi all,
Just a question about the Freespace 2 ship list in the tech area.
is there any way to get it to display every ship in the game?
ok I'm at the mission where ya gotta go after the NTF iceni and your in the nebuae, and the shivans are there trying to destroy it.
anyway some of the ships i've encounted are'nt showing up in the Ship list, I've spoken to someone else who's played through the game and he says the ships that are'nt showing up on my list showed up on his when he played through the game. anyway is this something that can be fixed or something I need to do or can I just do something that will make every ship in the game appear on there?

The ship list is controlled by the campaign file, and mission SEXP's. When a certain mission is completed, more ships are added to the tech room. It's part of command's way of keeping you in the dark about alot of stuff. By the time you finish the campaign, however, all vessels should be listed. As well as all weapons.
On the other hand, WMCoolmon (I believe) made a proggy called CSGEdit. It allows you to alter the player CSG file in the data\player\single\ folder of your FS2 Directory. If you have the ships.tbl file in the same directory as CSGEdit, it'll let you pick more ships to add into the techroom. But that's for people who know what they're doing. Otherwise you could mess up the campaign file, and it'll no longer be playable.

Exits are to the sides and rear. Personal flamethrowers are located under the seats, but they're probably full of soda (http://www.hard-light.net/forums/index.php/topic,23972.0.html) right now. Don't go crawling through the air vents as they're infested with Shivans. However, if you do encounter any Shivans, it's just Carl. Give him your lunch and run away. Plasma rifles are located in the lockers up front. However these can only be opened by [V], God, an Admin, or a hyperintelligent shade of the color blue. Do not try to enter the control room as it is guarded by subspatial claymore mines. Thank you, and enjoy your stay!

I accepted that intelligence assignment ya know where ya gotta inflitrate the NTF, but I only got up to the 2nd mission, those awac's are like papercups, anyway these ships have'nt been added to my list but I've seen them ingame.

BTW is it just me or does the SJ Sathanas seem abit weak, I was expecting it to go on a rampage like the SD Lucifer did in FS1.
ok it took the GTVA Colossus to destroy it, but still the SD Lucifer had more of a unstoppable nature to it.

ok it's four beam cannons are pretty damn powerful, but my bomber got those realatively easy, sure there were flak turrets there but not the sorta defense I was expecting. yea the ship looks quite terrifying, but with it's 4 main beam cannons gone it's not as strong. the SD Lucifer had a impentable shield, it was more terrfifing in a way cos it was almost impossible to kill.

ok I just found out there are tons more juggernaughts, one just fried that Vasudan destroyer in the Lupus nebuae, plus you also find that other portal.
now ya gotta save the GTD Aquitaine from a shivan attack, you gotta wait for it to be repaired, the GTC Agrippa a Aeolus-class warship helps protect the transport develivering the repair team.
I still don't have the GTC Aeolus and the SCv Moloch on my tech room ship list yet, I've encounted both ships quite a few times, does anyone know in what missions do ya get these two?

Kind of wish I'd put the details of when ships were added to the techroom into that table that said when weapons and ships were allowed. Would have been so easy to do and all.

Not all ships are listed in the tech room, even if you often meet them.

with old ships from FS1 I can understand, but new ships in FS2 come on they gotta show all of those.

remember in FS1 all ships encounted were placed in the ship list, should be the same in FS2.

I had the same problem when I played this time around. I don't know if ti was SCP or what, but I got the same issue as Grassboy. I'm actually at the Exodus mission and I still don't have dragons or aeolus or even moloch cruisers in my tech room.. come to think of it, I don't have the awac's either...

If you're that bothered, you can just modify the table, can't you? Add the "In tech database" tag to everything. Or something...

DON'T trust the tables if you remove something it can mess up even more... trust me... It's more of a Freders Job, so if we get around to replaceing the Nebula and Stars of Fs2 missions, it wouldn't be hard to fix :)

It would take me all of about 3 minutes to add them in.
Grass69er: What's the last mission you've played? I'll cook up a special version of the next one that will add all the missing ships in if you want.

This is an edited version of the loop mission As Lightning Falls (so I hope you accepted the SOC mission) at the end of Argonautica. Unzip it and stick it in Freespace2/Data/Missions.
I advise that you back up everything in your Freespace2/data/players/single folder before you play it just in case it causes any problems (I can't see it causing any but better safe than sorry).

hey btw if your failing most secodary objectives, is it possible not to go with the vasudans? like you know how ya get selected for the transfer well can you be rejected for it?

Nope. At the only branches in the main campaign are the two SOC loops. At the end of both you end up in the same place you would have normally (although there is a bonus ship for completing each loop).
Branching an FS2 campaign is a lot of extra work and worse there is no way to go back and try the other branch apart from playing the entire campaign again so neither the main campaign or most mods bothered with it much. Although there are a few campaigns that say they'll have full branching :D

I remember in the Battlezone 2 campaign there was branching.
you could stay over with the ISDF or join the SCIONS.
one thing thats frustrating me is the fact you can only fly in one Shivan fighter, all the others are AI only, I'd love to play a campaign where you fought with the shivans as a shivan. :D

Don't know about fighting other shivans as a shivan but if you want to play a shivan and fight humans you might want to consider learning how to FRED and helping out the Hidden Terror (http://www.sectorgame.com/hiddenterror/) campaign :)
There was a mod on VW Archives before it went down that allowed you to play as any shivan craft.

Actually I'm learning fred right now, I'm building that mission the help file shows ya how to make.
I've built maps for other games such as Duke 3d, Dark Reign 1 and 2, Warcraft 3, starcraft, Battlezone 2.
so I'm up with making maps, this editor is rather easy compared to sum of the others I've worked with, especially the scripting.
Although I still dislike scripting, I rather just build up the mission and terrain rather than script missions.

as you can see I can't create that lower part on the modify-variable op, I dunno what I need to do, or if I even really need to anyway. anyone know what i should do here?

Right mouse click on the 1. Either type + or choose replace operator/arithmetic/+
To chain an event simply click on the event you want chained to an event above it and tick the Chained tickbox to the right of the box with all the events in.

yea I was doing that, but it won't change to that "op" symbol
just remains as that notepad symbol, plus the first line underneath it won't change to the red writing that says "DockCount(0)", did I miss something b4hand?

I don't know why you aren't getting the op symbol but I wouldn't worry too much about it. When FRED2 saves the mission it probably won't care (op symbols don't appear in the saved mission if you open it up in notepad so they probably don't mean anything outside of FRED).
As for the 0. Right mouse on it and choose replace variable.

it's saying that in Sleipner 3 under "is-destroyed-delay" and "is-event-true-delay" it should be sleipner 2? and in Sleipner 4 it should be Sleipner 3 under "is-destroyed-delay" and "is-event-true-delay"?
and second in the Orange circle, should "Sleipner 1 done" be chained to "Sleipner 2 going in" and then chained to "Sleipner 3 going in" be chained to "Sleipner 4 going in".
correct?
and third in the red circle, they don't need to be chained?

You want the Sleipner 3 event to trigger as soon as Sleipner 2 is out of the running one way or the other. So you're correct. You want the Sleipner 3 event to be triggered by Sleipner 2 being destroyed or undocking.

Chaining to an event is basically the same as adding an is-event-true-delay. Chaining is simply a shortcut that makes things easier for the FREDder.
So now lets look at what's going on. If you chained "Sleipner 2 going in" to "Sleipner 1 done" you would make it so that Sleipner 2 will only dock after Sleipner 1 undocks. But what happens if Sleipner 1 is destroyed? Since it doesn't undock Sleipner 2 will sit around forever waiting for it to do so. So you can see why you shouldn't chain those two together.
Chaining the "Sleipner 3 going in" event to "Sleipner 4 going in" is more interesting in that as far as I can see it wouldn't make the blindest bit of a difference if you chained them together or not.
Sleipner 4 will only go in if Sleipner 3 has already been destroyed or has docked anyway. Since the conditions that trigger the event mean that the "Sleipner 3 going in" event must have already evaluated to true anyway chaining wouldn't make a difference. Since it makes no difference I wouldn't bother with it. It would only confuse you if you looked at the mission later on.

ok I thought I might just edit this post with the next question rather than starting a new topic.
ok I did'nt know only one ship can be dockked at one time,
as soon as I removed the ship already docked with the station the ship I wanted to move in and dock, did so.
anyway now I'm trying to get it's engines to go off (disabled) when it docks with the station.
(edit) ok I still have'nt been able to turn the ship's engines off (disabled it) after it docks, whats the proper way to shut down it's engines after this ship docks with the station?

Apart from disabling the engines there is no way to turn off a ships engines. Most of us don't bother and just say that they keep the engines active so that they can make a quick getaway if they have to :D

ok this is weird when I save it gives me these two messages:
(player start is not in Alpha wing)
(player "Alpha wing 1" should be part Alpha, Beta or Gamma wing)
thing is the player is in Alpha wing as Alpha wing 1 the fighters are GTF Erinyes.

The name of the wing should be ALPHA, not ALPHA WING
