I soooo can't wait for this movie.

If-They-Screw-This-Up- :mad2:
-
Oh, Hell. Universal got the rights. Well, better than Warner Bros. I guess.
-
i'll be waiting for this one with baited breath.
-
Interesting, but given the record of movies-of-games we've seen recently, I'm not gonna hold my breath until I read reviews.

I take it you don't know anything about Doom 3.
-
Right. You forgot the stuttering in any cinema smaller than a cinemax ;)
This should be interesting, I wonder if they'll take it in the direction of action or a more slow paced 28 Days style psychological thriller.
-
I think aldo_14's refering to Doom1 and Doom 2 which I have played and it is a bit repetetive though. But the film and Doom 3 should be better.
-
Looks like it's going to be the usual one-heroic-guy against satanic-forces-of-evil. But I guess that's what Doom is all about.
What would be cool was if the entire army that doom marine guy is part of invaded hell... it would be like a cross between Event Horizon and Starship Troopers :drevil:
-
It was originally quoted as an Arnie Spectacular with music by Pantera, who's tune 'Mouth for War' was one of the main Doom music themes ;)
Admittedly, this was more or less a decade ago ;)
-
yeah it's going to be badass.
... i hope :)

Man goes to mars
Man meets demons - lots of demons
Man shoots demons
That's about it.
Although i found the original design document for Doom on the net a while back - it was actually pretty interesting - some of the ideas would have been groundbreaking had they been implemented (i.e. use of logical puzzles, like picking up a severed hand to access a door).
EDIt - found it - it's an interesting read, hactually http://5years.doomworld.com/doombible/
Although it does give the impression that the game could have been much, much better than i remeber it being.

Wow.... It's like playing Unreal all over again ;)
The question is will the Baddies be the likes of the CyberDemon and Cacodaemon we all know and love or will they take the easy option and just use the Film CG quality models for Doom 3 that ID have made?
Doom 3 WAS groundbreaking for it's time, and, if they have re-written Doom with the same monsters (but different levels of course) and 2004 level hardware use, I'll be in the queue the day before.
If they have, however, done a Castle Wolfenstein, I don't think I'll be interested. Castle Wolfenstein, whilst a good game in itself, was right not to be Called Wolfenstein 2 :(

Yes.
-
Yep, just looked, they are using the Doom 3 stuff, pity, half the fun of Doom was firing a rocket right into the happy smiling face of a big red cacodaemon :( Now, I suspect, they will be much darker and slimier :(

I don't know why, buty I just had a vision of Steve Coogan playing the monsters in the film. All of them.
-
They gotta use Bruce Campbell SOMEWHERE in the movie :)

-
yes, that is a cacodemon, in case you didn't know
-
my favorite was the brain walking on robotic spider legs, mowing everything in its path with a chaingun
-
yeah, that was the last boss I think
-

In The original Doom yes, in Doom 2 the last boos is a bit...bigger
-
in Doom 2 the last boss was a severed head
-
Er, cyberdemon?
-
The Demon-spitting wall ;)
-
Indeed, but there is also a severed head behind the demon spitting wall (not sure if you can get to it without using the no clipping cheat, I think it is, not sure) which will end the game if you shoot it.
-
Yeah, and that was the head of the guy who invented DOOM.
-
it was named John
-
and those brain guys with the chain guns weren't bosses. I think they were in the first one, but in the second they would all hang out killing each other :)
Thats one thing I loved about DOOM. They would attack each other if provoked.

And then you could just stand and watch the show and save some ammo :D
-
John Romero.
Anyway, how did you end the game without cheating? I never did find out.
-
Man that was like 11 years ago, u think I remember?
-
I think it was that you only saw the head if you put in the flying code and the walk thru walls code...

You had to pump rockets into the demon spitting wall's brain
-
Letting some Demons chase you into a load of imps was always fun to watch. And unleashing a rocket into the midst of a huge crowd of zombies is just as gratifying today ;)
Halo is probably the only game that even start to recapture that 'horde' feeling, but in my opinion there is less thinking involved in Halo, sometimes in Doom you would have to plan out your attack on a Baron or the like very carefully, or try to draw him into a fight with other creatures.
-
They should make a 3d Doom Movie... I like stuff that pop out of the screen :D
-
Theres one thing I'm looking for in Doom 3, can you imagine the Bullroar of the Baron, or the mechanical footsteps of the Cyberdemon in full 3D Surround? ;)
God, that 'thud thud' sent shivers down my spine even on a wimpy little Stereo soundblaster! LOL

Indeed, a quite possible situation in DOOM 3:
You are walking down a dark hallway (as if there are any other in DOOM 3 :p) and you hear the "thud-thud" sound of a Cyberdemon, you start wondering where the hell he is, maybe around the next corner or so, and suddenly he comes crashing through the wall right next to you :D
that would be kind of neat.

Surely Serious Sam?
-
LOL True, I must admit to the travesty of not having played it yet, so I can only speak from personal experience, but it sounds like that might be one to try ;)
