No idea. Speech NEVER worked for me ('cept in the launcher where it works fine) so I can't test it.

Speech only ever worked for me on RT's own builds. I'll give 3.6 a try in a bit

Use -query_speech flag

Lightspeed: If its in the launcher there is no technical reason it should work ingame unless its not compiled

jdjtcagle: Your sig is too long

karajorma: Yes, most builds dont have speech because you need to compile in a seperate SDK but official releases *should* have it.

There is also a speech build in my sig as always but I want it to be in 3.6.

Thats what they all say, I have tested it with builds I KNOW its compiled into (i.e. your siggy builds) but to no avail. Works in the launcher but not in-game.

I think it may be down to my sound card - maybe it doesn't have a channel free for playing that thing simultaneously to the FS2 music & effects.

Try the flag, it will give us a bit more info.
And put a bug in mantis and I'll look into it when I can.
Note your soundcard type.

Text to speech works for me in 3.6, it really helps me catch typos in the messages and briefings when testing missions.

Not exactly what I build it for but Im glad its in 3.6 and getting use. :)

Lightspeed: It would still be useful to run the game with that flag. Report any visual of audio response.

Yes. Tested it, and it works everywhere a wav file is not found.
(It was funny to hear FS1 Terran command speak with such a poor female voice...)

Whoops, forgot to mention I compiled it in 3.6.  Release thread edited.

The speech FS2 Open Build in RandomTiger's signature doesn't work, but the original 3.6 Build does.

I also noticed that the text-to-speech functions don't work very well with high quality voices. It's too slow and lags the actual in-mission or briefing text by a couple of minutes. :blah:

But the default robotic sounding Microsoft voices works fine though.

P.S Is it possible to set two different voices, one male and one female for use in combat? They could be linked with the pilot male/female persona to add a little more variety.

this was discussed, but there is a weird legal thing makeing it imposable for us, or anyone makeing a campain, to distribute other voices, despite there being freely available, and thus imposable for us to code in the changes needed IIRC

Bob, can't you just make a table, seeing if a voice with a name is available, and otherwise using the standard one? Camp makers can either try and build their own voices, or point a link to the correct downloads.
