What!?!? I'm not crazy, but the rest of you are! =)

The beam is terrible, but I love the smooth effect you've given the Hatchetput. Very nice!

well, I've been messing with looks for beams the picture was screwed up b4 i added the beam, I was just trying to see if the beam effect looked better than just a regular line with a gradient glow on it. I will try and make another copy of the render, then make the beam smaller and not as fat.
-
I think it looks bad because the ship is out of focus behind it.
It's not like a standard FS beam, which may be a turn off for some. Frankly, it doesn't look too bad. Too big, maybe, but not to bad.

I know there is a method, but all I see is madness.

the beam is a bit big, but with a little tweaking it will look spot on.
good work - keep it coming (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/smile.gif)

that beam iss badass, makes it look like its pushing the Hatepsut's (or however you spell it) nose down
-
that beam almost as good as mine (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/biggrin.gif)
but it looks low color, like 256.

its blurry for two reasons.
1)There is another lens flare below it, which made it really blurry
2)Carl is right stupid gif had to go into 256k image
Anyways, how about this...

The colors are wrong. The vasudan beams are a peachy color. That's more of a gold, methinks.
-
i liked everything about the origional variant except the size over the second variant
-
the beams need to be white in the middle.

I think I like the first one a lot. But it is kind too big (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/smile.gif) So I think the first one is better, just make a little smaller. (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/smile.gif)
And yeh, a rule of thumb for all render artists: if an object is out of focus, the effects at the same depth in the render should be similarly unfocused. (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/smile.gif)
