Title: 3.6 needs help from the Orkin Man (really bad bugs)
Post by: Woolie Wool on June 09, 2004, 05:13:04 pm
I've noticed three major bugs on my system:

-Specular lighting doesn't work at all. I just get standard lighting. 3.5.5 does not have this problem.
-I can't jump out. Whenever I try, I get a message at the top of the screen reading "Engine failure. Cannot engage warp drive." This does not happen in 3.5.5.
-Sometimes the blue lines that some other members mentioned appear around certain menu items. The menu doesn't do this in 3.5.5.

Also, can you give the person installing 3.6 a choice between the new "hybrid" thrusters and Lightspeed's old ones. I really dislike the new ones and I love the old ones. They looked far more powerful and the Shivan thrusters actually looked like some kind of engine plume (just by looking at the original FS2 Shivan thruster graphics, it's obvious that they wanted them to be much like the other species engine plumes only, well, red.

This buikd (http://fs2source.warpcore.org/exes/latest/fs2_open_C06072004.zip) will fix your 2nd problem.

So just install the old ones to your data folder. End of problem.

1) You did use the -shine tag in the launcher, didn't you?

I turned on these flags:

-shine
-glow
-fps
-fov 0.35 (Play the first mission with this setting and try to be close to the Psamtik's entry point when t jumps in--the Psamtik will look HUGE)
-snd_preload
-pcx32
-jpgtga
and some others.

My card is an ATI Radeon 9200 and I had my graphics set to D3D8 at 1024x768x32 (no anti-aliasing). The blue-line thing occurred in both 1024x768 and 1280x1024, although it was much worse in the latter.

Turn off anti-aliasing or -pcx32 to get rid of the blue lines.

There's your shine problem, what driver version?

I had a 9200 briefly, and it killed the shines. That may be it.

There is a known Radeon 7000-9200 Range driver issue with the later (pretty old already) drivers, causing shine to disappear.

"-Shine"... I thought it was "-spec"... or are they 2 separate flags?

The Catalyst 4.4 drivers should work for the Shinemaps.  Get them at www.ati.com

TP: It might be, I'm too tired nowadays. Just use the damn tickboxes.
