I played this game a bit a while ago. Enjoyed it, played more, played yet more with friends. But as I owned no copy of it, we were forced to arrange a LAN party everytime we wanted to play, too bad.
Well N/m. But yesterday a friend of my dropped by and gave me the game. "Frickin' dandy!", I thought, "maybe I could try to get a better grasp in this game all by myself, not drinking beer and listening to blackmetal all night long!" Yay!
Off to the install we go, which goes pretty painlessly. How am I surprised! Then I try to start the game.
Playing it was very comparably to trying to play FS2 as a blind, paralyzed and crack-high mole. I couldn't see ****, but the voices were there, calling me to play. Those little cock-teases. "This must be my because I have a crappy Hyundai L17T flat screen!", I realize. After making the necessary NVidia updates I try again after shutting down EM3, AVGuard and other stuff - with no success. Thank God I have my old and faithful Fujitsu-Siemens C772 somewhere. So I'll plug it in.
Now I can play! I see those little tanks and dudes busily shooting each other, choppers lobbing missiles on defenceless cars and so on. Tear falls down my cheek, I feel so happy. With shaking hands I navigate towards Skirmish play. This is indeed the highlight of my pitiful nerd life.
WRONG
During the gameplay, the game runs pretty smoothly for periods of ~10 secs. Then the game totally halts for another 10 secs, only to proceed again for another 10 secs. Halt, play, halt, play... The vicious Cycle of Doom must be broken! Update didn't help either, BTW. :hopping:
I now summon upon the fellow HLPers, the magical faeries who have successfully guided me through playing X-Com on XP, getting rid of the annoying ads (and also thus allowing me to enter HLP at all!), have offered spirited debate over Civ 3 and so on. Clearly this is a well of wisdom.

1) Remove Generals Disc from drive
2) Take the Tiberian Sun disc in the right hand
3) Place in CD drive
4) Restart program
5) Enjoy

You really should try the Air Force mod for Generals. It adds new planes. Even crop dusters for the GLA to dust your enemies with anthrax :D
All units it adds:
U.S. Units:
B-1B
Joint Strike Fighter
B-2 spirit
Harrier
Black Bird
A10 Thunderbolt
New Airfield
Chinese units:
Hokum
Sukhoi Su-34
Sukhoi Su-37
Sukhoi Su-47
Mi-24 Hind
GLA units:
Su-17
MD 500
MiG-15
MiG-21
GLA Plane (Toxin duster :p)
Airfield (holds 9 (!!!) planes)
This mod also adds several naval units, a infantry toxin sprayer, tactical warhead, spy unit, nuke truck.
I SO love this mod :D:D:D

Ow and the naval battleship owns so much. Bombing your enemy from the shoreline with 6 artillery cannons (6 inferno cannons for the Chinese) :D Or the PT boat for the GLA which carries a machine gun and rocket launchers ala rocket buggy.
:D

I liked C&C generals a lot...modded a bit for it...
Now I'm tempted to do it again...
the A-10 is allready in there(my favortie tank killer), and the B-1 Lancer(my favorite bomber). Now only to add the F-14(my favorite fighter), and to edit some units a bit and I can die happy!

Try Ctrl-Alt-Del and look at the processes, there is probably a generals.exe process that you can kill that makes a world of difference, also there might be a process that starts with an e followed by numbers and symbols (e.g e~214414.exe) if that's the case shut that down too.
I think it's something to do with the copy protection cd check, all I know is that it's a friggin pain in the ass.
