Ghost In The Shell, if we're counting anime here
-
Erm... hope not, that ups the ante somewhat!
As for me... Disney Studios did some great animations for their style.
However I'm not sure Pixar Studios actually do animations do they? I mean.. they're 100pc CGI...
-
well i mean that motion picture animations.

I must admit, I did enjoy Episode 3: The Return of the Tentacle as well. :D

So basically, this thread is, "Pick you favorite Pixar movie".
(though I rather liked Antz)
-
I thought it went like this:
Ep. 1: The Phantom Tentacle
Ep. 2: Attack of the Clone Tentacle
Ep. 3: Just Give Your Money to the Tentacle Already
Ep. 4: A New Tentacle
Ep. 5: The Tentacle Strikes Back
Ep. 6: The Return of the Tentacle
-
Ah, yes... It's been a long time. I'm currently trying to aquire Star Tentacle: The Next tentacle and Star tentacle: Deep Space Tentacle. They're hard to come by.
I did however, find a copy of Star Tentacle: First Tentacle. Quite an interesting movie,

i saw a few minutes of Titan A.E. a few years ago. looked like a fairly good animation movie. of course there's been better ones, like Finding Nemo, etc.

Oh my god. That's so ****ing funny. Brilliant!
And yes - FF: The Spirits Within pwns all. Failing that, 19-2000 by the Gorillaz is a great example of animation :D

I'll see your Weeble and raise you a Strong Bad (http://www.homestarrunner.com/sbemail57.html).
-
'Hentai' is arguably the pinacle of Weebl and Bob technology
My favourite animated movies, given that I'm not an anime follower or a Disney fanboi, would be Titan AE and the Lion King. The baddy alien dudes in Titan rocked a particularly fat one

dg: Yup, though I expected it to be more mature and less kiddy, but I was not disapointed.
and yeah, Final Fantasy.
what happened to the old Weebl stuff? All his cartoons are now with those egg-things. What about badger, and the old timey British dude on drugs (yeah sure, like I can remember the name...)??

The best animated movie ever is hands down: Beauty and the Beast, by a landslide.
-
NEMO!!!!!!!11
-
Shrek had some of the best Kid/Adult humour of any film, animated or otherwise. Can;t go past IMO.
-
Ghost in the shell
Akira (say what you will about it, but it DID do a lot for bringing anime/manga in the mainstream)
FF:Spirits within
Spirited away
lesse.. best animated shorts
two animatrix ones
Last flight of the osirus
the new Rennaisance pts 1 & 2
oh and not forgetting..
MGS2, all that movie, punctuated by a few minutes of gameplay:p
-
simply becaes it hasn't been mentioned, Lion King
-
Aladdin
-
hmm... Mononoke Hime and Lion King shares the top place on my list.
-
I can't say, too many I like to list.
That's like asking me what's my favourite movie ever. How could I tell? :p

"blushes"
Please be gentle...

If you need to take notes I can recommend La Blue girl episodes 1-6 (they also made them Live Action)
But I prefer RAPEMAN of Edo 1&2! (Also Live Action) As he is really a good guy dressed like batman but has various "toys" on his belt and he only punishes evil women... A true hero for our time!
Wait this is for anime.. ahem, I nominate: Char's Counter attack (a Gundam Movie), Akira, Vampire Hunter D (Original), and Warriors of the Wind (called nausicaa in Japan I think, god it made me cry, I was just a kid then lol!)
oh and trivia... did you know the actor that did English voice for Rick hunter was the voice of Prince Sirius in the movie "Sea Prince and the Fire child?" long before Robotech? Another tear jerker like Titanic but animated!!! LOL!!!
yes I know this proves I am old, get over it ;)

Kaze no Tani no Naushika. Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind, literrally.
That's my favourite Ghibli :)

You allready know what I'm gonna say....
It's in my Siggy...
-
You're ready to take out my garbage?
-
excuse me, but has anyone here even seen Beauty and the Beast as an adult? i believe children can't quite appreciate the depth of the story.
-
Yes.
And as an amateur musician, I must add that the music in that movie is (as is often the case for Disney films) absolutely spectacular. Probably the best of the Disney films I've listened to as of the last few years.
-
Yohko Kano 0wnz never the less (Macross Pluss, Escaflowne, GITSSAC, ect. ect.).
Check out Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex - now that's some serious series, where each episode could stand on its own as a film.
Both Bubblegum Crisis, and the subsequent (and lot better realised) remake BGC 2040 Megatokyo had good soundtracks. The first is my favorite 80' j-rock with a sense of darkness that's otherwise very alien to the style (Try to grab a subbed version with the lyrics translated too - you'll quickly get want I mean. Who can come up with such a corny never the less fitting line for cyberpunk as "What is the world coming to with a Devil kissing an Agel?")
BGC 2040 had some good 90' rock music, and Priss Asagiri once again shines, though I don't now if the seiyun was a singer just like in the OVA.
(PS.: Avoid BGC - Crash like plague, some ppl wanted to grab some serious money, but they raped the story to cramp in as much showy non-sense as possible)
-
hmm, ask me again in a year or two, and I'll say Battlechasers, the epitomy of comicbook art. I just hope they don't do it live-action, but I think its safe as long as Mad has the final say...
-
I listen to a LOT of BC crisis music and all series of Gundam while playing FS2... PRISS RULEZ!
Yoko Kanno also did some SLAYERS soundtracks with that megumi chick..
Oh yeah NINJA SCROLL was one hell of a movie...

That's quite an accomplishment, considering that the actual GitS film did such a bad job of standing on its own.

Good call. I had forgotten about this film but I loved it when I was younger. I look it up now to discover it's by the director of Spirited Way, which I have in my DVD collection.
Best animated movie ever? Akira IMHO. I think because it's seen as "mainstream" it no longer gets the appreciation it deserves. Ghost in the Shell is obviously somewhere near the top. I've also got a soft spot for the immensely fun Ninja Scroll, andSpirit: Stallion of the Cinnamon... Silmarilion... Simmerom... Indians.

It's Vision of Escaflowne (VOE!!!!), THE best animated movie I ever seen!
And I've seen a lot!
Sure, Ghost in the Shell is good, Akira is allso, Evangelion is good in the beginning, Beserk too repetitive, Macross Rocks!
Alladin is the best Disney film....Gotta love that genie ...

A series that has default cannot be the best, therefore VoE can't be the one: Hitomi is soooo running on my nerves ( I'm kind of fed up with crybabies in animes ).
-
End of Evangelion

Ghostavo - take a check up with your doc, or admit we were brothers in hell before Lucifer exiled us.
That film is so ****ed up only an Eva maniac or truly phlegmatic person can come through without irrecoverable brain damage...or your Alucard Junior, which is another not so heart warming fact.

Veggie Tales..... cuttting edge CGI content!!!!
Would the Animatrix count? It may not have been in the theaters but many of the short stories are executed most excellently. Particularly "Kid Story" and "Matriculated"

Am I the only one, who couldn't stand the animatrix??
The ONLY parts I like was the ones that used 3D models...
those blew me away (http://forums.sciflicks.com/images/smilies/nuke2.gif)

I put Fligth of the Osiris aside.

How about Gainax classics?
Gunbuster
Wing of Honneamise
-
GunBuster started out as a paradoy/homage to a particular niche... So why not go to the source of that niche GO NAGAI!!!!
That's right I am the greatest animated movie ever (with a little help from my friends, they had minor roles lol)
SUPER ROBOT ARMY! (starring ME!)
STAR DRAGON (Getter Robo G)
Great Mazinger
Grendizer (Goldorak, Goldrake, UFO Robot Atlas)
Venus
Aphrodite-A
Double Spader
and that IDIOT Boss!
Guest starring Dragonsuarus as the evil monster thingy
(screenshots posted by request, signed autographs are available for $1.00 each - no stalkers, prisoners, or 700 club members PLEASE!) ;)

Gah, have you seen that Gunbuster2 thing the Gainax is doing?
WTF?
Star Dragon: the stupid robot was Boss Robo. Shame on you for not remembering, while claiming Getter Robo G being the best... what? G is a TV series :p, the movies is Getter Robo ( w/o anything more ).
You suck :p
-
Bow before the anime OTAKU!
It was a mega robot movie in the 80's I discovered it in a torrent a few months ago, though I DID rent it about 15 years ago from Sarge's comics in New London CT (my Friend's store).
I will boot up the movie take a few screens and post some links.
[EDIT]
Here I made a new yahoo albumn with screens from the movie (I found an old vhs that had it on it also as well as the Grendizer V Mazinger tv movie)... This first one was released in the theaters first as a regular MOVIE and much later went to video. Don't want to be a spoiler BUT guess who ends up primarily destroying the monster? :drevil:
ENJOY!
http://f1.pg.photos.yahoo.com/ph/getter_robo_g_2004/album?.dir=/81d1
[Re-edit] Don't forget with BOTH lady robots from different series we now have TWICE the amount of BREAST MISSILES!!!! FIRE!
and of course boss Borotto is included as comic relief with liberal use of "colorful language"...;7
-
I'm right, just check it out :p
Anywy, I'm not a fan of Nagai robot shows and, funilly enough, neither was he ( he never liked making robot shows, he was kind of forced to make them by his publishers ).
The only odd looking bot I like is the Gunbuster. Maybe because it's also the most insanely powerful robot ever rendered in an anime :p

goiant sword?
Don't get me wrong...Beserk is very good, but it IS really very repetitive.
Every episode Gatz slashes hunderdes of enemies with his gigantic sword(and on a horse!!!)
And what do you mean by "series that has deault"??????
Hitomi is a very realistic charachter...
Imagine a 16 year old girl in such a situation...It's not quite kind on the nerves...
She sometimes can be a bit heavy, but a real person would be hevy too...
I don't know any person who I met in my life that hasn't been boring/heavy at some time.
I like VOE bocoase of the realism in the charachters themselves...
-

Not at all? More than half the episodes have Guts slaying... not hundreds of enemies, at least :p. The plot is very cool and is much more about Griffith political schemes than Guts bloodbathes, really.
About Hitomi: realistic? A real girl, in that case, would piss in her pants, she wouldn't be that annoying lass that is chasing afetr her real worlds look-alike lover. And I'm not talking about the depressed movie version :p
I like VoE because of the rather interesting plot, and the musics from Yoko Kanno ( the crucial moment is that scene when the escaflowne turns into the dragon form for the first time and flyes toward the moutains in the background, with that awesome background music - Dance of Curse, the last few seconds - then I knew I'd love that series ). But I've seen so many seriesthat I temper my enthousiasm now, VoE is not the best thing I've seen, really.
From the same authors, you should try Heat Guy J, it's very cool, and you US people already have a DVD edition of it ( my bro buys the DVDs, that's how I'm watching that ).
-
You're completely entilted to your oppinion...
I've seen thousands of animated movies/series and VOE is my fav..
and yes...DANCE OF CURSE rocks!
Especialy in the ending, when Van and Allen, two best friends fight eachother in the midst of a raging warzone.....
-
Don't get me wrong: VoE is definitively in my top 10 ;)
Pb is, there's quite a lot of series I put at the same level of the lader, so there's at least 20 series in my top 10 :p ( say, for exemple, I love Azumanga Daioh, which is a completly different genre than VoE, so how could I choose between the two? :p )
-
Ok... Animated movies... Hmm. Tis a toughie, but here goes.
Lion King
Prince of Egypt
Finding Nemo
Titan A.E
Ghost in The Shell
Though Lion King would be up there as number one. Dunno why. Its just so damn good. But I suppose having the music done by Hanz Zimmer really is the key. Same thing for Prince of Egypt. What can I say, Zimmer is the king.
-
I can't believe this hasn't been mentioned yet, but my favorite has gotta be the Transformers Movie, with Blue Sub Six in close second for me.
