I think it should be great if PCS allowed to keep smoothing settings, is there a way you could implement that?
-
I think you know what I'm going to say...
Email is A-1 SUPAR MONKEEEEEYY!!!11[/b]
-
Yeah, but with e-mails, nobody will see that, and nobody will support me, coz that's very important for modelling, dude. Take the atsheptsu and remove the smoothing, believe me, it won't look half as good.

Smoothing is A-1 SUPAR! (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/biggrin.gif)

Kazan will see that - and the topic is addressed to him, you have to even open the topic to know what it's about (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/tongue.gif) (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/wink.gif)

No, but Venom's right. Why would Kaz add a new feature to PCS if he doesn't know that it would help the community? You = silly (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/smile.gif)
-
Fine, but it appears from his initial post that he's just asking Kazan about it - theres no mention of the community in there whatsoever. Therefore I assumed he wasn't talking to anyone but Kazan and could therefore have doing it via email! (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/rolleyes.gif) @ J00!

you mean texture smoothing? those settings cannot be retained due to the freespace 2 model format
-
No, I mean edge smoothing. mmh, there's a pic Setekh did that ilustrates well what I'm talking about... here it is:
I know FS2 supports it, and that would be an awesome addition to models.
-
no, freespace 2 doesn't support it - otherwise there would have been something about it in the POF data

It does. just look at the Atsheptsu, the herc2, the... about every ship in fact. I can recognize smoothing when I see it, heh.
edit: just look above. ingame, which one of the herc featured above do you see? the first one w/o smooting, or the last one with the 180° smoothing?

I wasn't sure...at first I thought you were talking about anti-aliasing...but now I know your talking about lighting and how FS2 blends lights across a surface, something that FS1 did not do nearly as well or at all.
FS2 does it in game, it has nothing to do with the POF. I know this for a fact because CptWhite's Earth Alliance Orion ring station from The Babylon Project shows this extremely well as it rotates.
-
hrmm...updating with real AA....something to add to that FS2 patch wishlist.
i just wish they'd open up the sodding engine.
Are you sure there arent any shading controls AT ALL in the POF code?
it must have something in there somewhere

I'm sick and tired of being sick and tired!!
-
i have the entire ******* format memorized.. there is nothing about that in it

Hey, that's mine. (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/smile.gif)
And you know, I thought at first that FS2 didn't support smoothing, but on closer inspection you never really see the Herc as blocky as that. Not even in an Astaroth, which is very angled.
-
ok, I told Kazan to make a test, he was too occupied to, and I'm too lazy, so if anyone is willing to: convert a herc 2 to cob, then back to pof. put it in a mission along with a regular herc2 and take a screenshot. Then we'll see the difference (or not if Kaz is right)
-
if it's in the file it's some obscure bitmask in the hdr2 properties
