hi poly phoenix class, now with variable geometry and gatling guns
(http://www.game-warden.com/nukemod-cos/Images/fin.jpg)
now before i hear any "whaaa my mod already has a phoenix waaaaa you stole my name waaaa" you best take note that i designed the original the summer of 2000 and i believe it was included in nukemod release 2.
*edit*
i did say variable geometry...

:pimp:
this is our atmospheric flight mode btw.
i finally get to torture-test the animation code
-
The variable geometry is insane ..... I like it.
-
Son of Flying Bullseye.
The notched wings look very odd to weird to me, but okay.
-
Looks cool but a bit...big...wouldn't it be really easy to hit ?:D
-
I'd like to see that in action before I can make comments on the model. Though the idea fascinates me.
-
i dont see any reason to open the wings in 99.99999% of the game. unless of course they implement a proper areodynamic flight mode. variable geometry was part of the original design but didnt become part of the model until now. i still dont know if it will ever get used. but its there for ****s and giggles.

I think if you used it simply to make the ship look imposing. If they're in an enemy wing, have them go to a waypoints in front of the player, a bit of brief dialogue, an insult, and then he pops the wings out and gives chase. It'd be intimidating, I think.
-
it would be cool to have them open up when you exit a docking bay. but in space theres no reason to. might just use it to inspire the coders to get an atmospheric flight model into the engine :D

now with a cockpit. just using nico's pilot model to get the scale right. i intend to make my own pilot models eventually.
-
Meh.. put an engine texture on the back of each sgment and make the wings open for "cruise mode" and then close again for "combat mode"
Nice ship though, the wings look a tad fragile when open, but col nontheless..
-
i wish there was an animation trigger for afterburners id make them deploy when hit. i think were still limitid to the original 6 triggers. the animation works perfectly and its a shame there is not enought triggers to cover every possible configuration.
-
Now, if each 'segment' of those wings contained a single mine which could be released in the path of a capship, or EM charges for pursuing ships, then you really wouldn't want to see those wings unfold ;)
-
ya know i could make them blades. put weapon firepoints down them and fire a very short range weapon from them but tht would be too trickey to operate.
-
Looks great! It'd be great to see that baby zipping around the battlespace literally coat-hangering several opponents at a time with its outstreched wings...
...Hmmm, for some reason, the images appear cropped to me, like the right hand side has been cropped off to fit the forum... what's up with that...?

Happening for me too, on all big images - I thought I was an isolated case. Didn't there used to be image scroll bars?
-
probibly looks cropped because it is cropped. some i used render to file, then cropped out the useless black, and some i just used prentscreen and cropped in photoshop. i think il open the wings in and on entrance to subspace and then close on exit from subspace. cause they potrude from the shild mesh too much. the fighter will have an inter system drive by default, being a shivan-tech-based next gen gtva design and all. sow i need a subspace trigger bob :D
-
Once the lvlshot tags are fixed, this should be fine, but at the moment, the board autocrops anything that goes off the right of the screen as far as I can tell.
-
what happened to the pics?

Bizarre. I'm not getting this issue. I'm getting a working lvlshot.

Use anything except a 4-yr-old browser (i.e. IE), and regular images will work properly. lvlshot works in any case.
-
im running the latest firefox and the images disapeared. maybe a clear of the cache would work.
an update:
ive uved the main hull, still gotta uv the wings and the cockpit interior. then i can hit up photoshop. i think im gonna do a 2048^2 texture this time. 4096^2 was a real killer on my system when i textured the ragnarok.

I don't want to get into a browser debate - I know IE sucks, and I'm just too lazy to bother changing - but it's still the most common browser on the net... surely I.E. not displaying the forum correctly is a problem worth fixing?
EDIT - even if it's just by putting the scrollbars back as a profile option (assuming they aren't already - gotta go check). For the record, can anyone point me to an image which definitely is lvlshotted so I can confirm it works?
-
my threads fast become a bug fix testing area of sorts :D
anyway i finished the uv mapping of the ship, gonna start texturing. sould have some pics in about 3 or 4 days.

do these lvlshot tags even work?
anyway im close to done, still gotta texture the cockpit interior and im still not happy with the wings.
-
I really love the texture!
Awesome work. :D
-
lvlshots work, but I'm still losing he right hand half of the lower image
-
Quit using IE, blast it! :p
I'll see what I can do.
And BTW:

Gecko-based browsers account for over 50% of the browsers used while viewing HLP. So, especially when taking into account that 9 out of 10 of the guests we have from the general internet public are using IE (ok, perhaps 8 out of 10; gamers are often computer-saavy), there's a definite majority on HLP towards standards-based browsers. Therefore, if "it" - whatever "it" may be - is a headache to get working in both standards and IE, then the standards-based method gets the nod.
