A lot of people say FS1 clash of titans is a cool mission. I have no clue what it is. Could you tell me please?
-
3rd-last mission. Orion VS Demon. The Demon is easily destroyed under FS1 engine (though it takes time), but "big dammage" protects it under FS2+ engine, and Phoenix isn't "huge", so the only way to take it out is either to fly a bomber (armed with bombs) and take it out yourself, but sacrifice your dogfighting ability, or loadout another wing in this way and get them to do it for you. You won't get the kill, but you'll get the bonus objective.
-
I always just take it out myself. Can't pass up that kill. As you said, you can destroy it with just primaries, although I generally take an Ursa and use bombs instead since that can be quite time consuming.

See for yourself.
I'll have to move that soon, though...
I usually load up a friendly wing with bombers and tell them to disable the Eva. The Bastion and my wingmates can finish it off pretty well, so long as I carry Phoenix missiles.
And where's the smilie picker?
-
I find that the Bastion never stays around long enough to kill the Demon, and since the Phoenix doesn't have a "huge" flag, it can't kill the Demon. That's why I load the reinforcement wing with Ursas and whatever bombs are availble, then call 'em in when things clear out a bit.
-
Ugh, i hated tht mission, took me the most tries of any in FS1.
Still fun though...
-
I found Black Omega to be about 300 times as harder as COTT.
But that's just because I can't micromanage fighter wings worth my life.

I couldn't agree with this statement more completely. I always try to destroy the Tantalus (the Demon) for the points, but while I'm doing that, those frickin' Nephilims are kicking the crap out of the Bastion. A bit of a dilemma there.

Eh? I've found that the Bastion ends up taking less damage if I take an Ursa myself, load with Harbingers, and take out the Demon myself while putting everyone else in whatever fighters are available and ordering them to protect the Bastion.

If I get to that mission, I'd be like," Screw the Bastion, they can take care of the destroyer themself,"

What one's black omega?

I wouldn't call it hard: you can c-3-5 everyone on the Bastion then go to sleep. It's hard if you go after the bonus objective, but I don't know why you'd want to do that. Points in a single player game? Oh my.

Or by giving the Terran Huge turrets the Big Damage, Huge flag (to target only caps) and damage to match (around 1000)... And give something similar to the shivans of course...
Orion pawns a Demon

Hmmmm... yes... Clash of the Titans... my the most popular mission in Conflict: FreeSpace. Run Conflict: FreeSpace (if you have this game :))
Go to Briefing and select URSA Bomber. Take lasers Prometheus and Avenger. Take two Harbinger Bombs, five Tsunami bombs and 80 Hornets. Start mission and hit Afterburner. Again and again. Ignore two Manticore fighters (your wingmen will destroy them). Tantalus will arrive soon and launch some Basilisk and Nephilims (Indra wing I think). Indra will arrive in two waves. Destroy them quickly! Use double fire Hornets. When Indra will be destroyed go near Tantalus, where are his engines. Fire both Harbingers on his egines. Harbingers will destroy his engines and weapons systems! This is way how make this mission successful. Fire Tsunami on the Tantalus and call Support ship for new bombs :) DO NOT FORGET attack on every hostile bomber in the area! Tantalus isn't very dangerous. Bombers from his docking bays are dangerous.

I'm pretty sure black Omega is the one where you have to get the two transports by the HoL Destroyer. That one is a major pain, primarily cause of the horuses with flails. Go after the destroyer, and you're bounced around then blown up. Hang back, and you squad gets burned. Not much fun, really.

Got it in one. It's simply the bombers that attack Omega 1 during the sequence where I need the extra fighter escorts that gets me. While the bombers aren't necessarily tough themselves, the fact that I need some fighters to cover my tail versus said Horus and Thoth fighters armed with Flails is the issue. I usually try to take down as many of the fighters myself (yes, dogfighting in an Ursa--it sucks, but it gets the job done) while taking shots at the Anvil's weapons and engine systems to keep it a relative nonfactor while I'm trying to keep the fighters off my ass.
It's one hell of a fun multiplayer mission, though. Some of my greatest PXO memories come from saving both transports (or not) and blowing up the Anvil on Hard. :)

Mmmm I think my strategy for that mission was to use Hercs loaded down with tons of missiles and full out primaries and just bash the heck out of every bomber wing that passed us by. And as the Demon traded broadsides with the Bastion I'd occasionally say to my wingmen to all attack the Demon and that'd take it down fairly quickly.

Both Black Omega and Clash of the Titans absolutely owned me while playing through FS1 (just like Bearbaiting and the first SOC loop owned me in FS2). :p I was so grateful to get to The Great Hunt; all you had to do there was fly in a straight line and dodge a few fighters.
