I was wondering appealing to volition to create a patch for all the modders and campaign makers (not to mension the mission makers) for freespace 2 so that it could improve the modderability of the game. But just when i thought about writing the email and start chatting to Adam (V) but then i realised what would want to be changed / improved so come on tell me what would u like to be in it?

does (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/v.gif) have the rights to make a patch? or would they have to get permission from Intercrap to do it?
I know the ST: Armada Dev team made a patch after Activision broke them up... but they were still under employment by them...

It's not going to happen.

So negative.....
Unfortunately, probably quite true. I seriously doubt that you could get a patch from (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/v.gif) unless one of the guys did it as a personal, unofficial project..... and the likelyhood of that is slim at best.

i said if i was interested in finding out what people wanted come on give us your sujestions

Why not? there's a guy at digatal anvil, he's working on a mission editor fpr Starlancer during his spare time. Not going fast tho...
-
Yeah, and SL is like a year newer than FS2, and they've been waiting for that mission editor for like 10 months or something, and they're still waiting. I'm not saying it's impossible, but you'd have to find one of the programmers at (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/v.gif) who can and more important would do something like this... really, they've moved on. Don't let that stop you, stranger things have happened, after all the worst they can do is say 'no'.
-
Yes (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/v.gif) could develop the patch, but it would have to go through Interplay QA in order to be official.
*That* is the tough part...

The Avenger asked for suggestions. Not comments, statements or answers towards the negligence of either company! So I would suggest you answer the question and stick to the topic as the moderators have implied many times before to the community.

I'd like to see numerous limitations removed, such as:
- player must be Alpha 1
- squadrons can only have 4 (or 6) ships
- targeting laser should be able to rack up kills
- KB/entry limit for ships.tbl and weapons.tbl
A number of other stuff as well:
- Scroll buttons in the Command Briefing text area!
- Enable the player to end a mission in a fighterbay as well as jumping out.
- A command-line option that will load up the specified mission immediatly; for dragging-'n-dropping missions onto the EXE, to help out all of us mission designers.
- A SEXP for certain actions depending on what fighter the player chose to fly.
- A SEXP to instruct capital ships to barrel-roll a certain number of degrees.
- Documentation on the "debug" SEXP, as well as including the "grant-promo/medal" SEXP's in the menus.
- Support for animated textures???
- Explanation of the various flags in the .TBL's
That's all I can think of ATM...

Id like to see us able to add our own cutscene codecs in instead of having to rely on that peice o crap SMK player.
Plus more extensibility in the beams department and perhaps the ability to put glow bitmaps on anything (make the shivan ships look waaay cooler anyway)

I'm sick and tired of being sick and tired!!
-
mmh... I think you're asking more for an addon than a patch here...
-
They also may be rusty on the code....
-
Another thing that would be nice is having lens flares applied to weapons (ie: weapons like a photon torpedo).

lol - this is more of a joke, but how about the ability to play the game in wireframe mode? (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/lol.gif) (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/wink.gif) (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/tongue.gif)

Actually, you can! (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/wink.gif) You'd just have to re-texture every model in the game with a wireframe texture. (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/tongue.gif)

I wish they could include the option to allow the selection of enemy wings through the comm menu. Ie. Beta wing, attack Taurus wing, instead of Beta 1 take Taurus 1, Beta 2 take Taurus 2, etc. That bugged the hell out of me.
-
fixing the green colour bug for voodoo cards so I can use that in my models. That's a bug and should be corrected, after all.

perfect green colour (0.255.0) ingame is supposed to be invisible, but voodoo based cards won't handle that and show... perfect green instead. You want to have something invisible and you end up with something supervisible (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/tongue.gif)

what about increasing the texture size from 256 to 512x512 and upping the number of ships allowed in a level at the same time - possibly allowing larger poly count for models and if possible make transparent textures so we can have real cockpits like in x-win aliiance -
the ability to fire beams from fighters as a primary weapon that drainen energy would be nice -
a beam shield intercpt -
the ability to change the weapon energy recharge rate -
the ability to have more to have 1 jump in and 1 jump out ani - and to be able to change the pof for the same
hmm thats all i can think of for now

i ment in the tables -so you could have a weapon that fired 5 bolts of energy stoped took about a sec to recharge the bank to 100% then could fire another 5 bolts - i tried to do this by reducing the energy pools down to 0.5 then than witha weapon taking 0.1 tried it with less than that too and while the first 5 bolts fire nicely it takes the same time to recharge the bank as it would if the bank was at 18 certianly if there was a change it was minor and i need a good change to make burst fire work
-
Just change the "Energy Use" value or something like that

Player doesn't have to be Alpha 1! It's just that FRED2 doesn't like the player in another wing, but it is possible! (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/smile.gif)

It doesn't work, I tried that too. whatever you set, the energy will come back at the same speed.

You can't do this as we'd all like, but you can already do this in a mock kinda way.
You just have to:
- Pretend that hangars have force fields to keep the air in, and your ships can fly through these force fields,
- Pretend that flying through one of these force fields looks just like jumping into subspace, and
- Fly towards a hangar and time your warp-out just right...
But then having tried this lots of times I can see one of the reasons why they didn't include a return-to-hangar... after a long hard mission I'd rather just jump out then have to fly all the way back to a ship and air for a little hangar.
Joe.

About the returning to the hangar... I hate when your mothership is in the mission and at the end you get told to "Return to base"...
Joey_21, how'd you change the player ship? Editing the .FS2 file as text, etc? What does it affect in-game?
