Following up on a story (well, rumours mainly) that broke (http://www.rainews24.rai.it/ran24/inchiesta/body.asp; Italian) a while back.

"The combined effects of the fire and smoke - and in some case the terror brought about by the explosion on the ground - will drive them out of the holes so that you can kill them with high explosives," he said.
I thought they were supposed to be fighting a war against terror. Are high explosives really the ideal weapon in an urban environment?
Col Venable said that statement was based on "poor information".
Interestingly the same can be said about the war itself.

Frankly, i'm more interested in this statement:
San Diego journalist Darrin Mortenson, who was embedded with US marines during the assault on Falluja, told the BBC's Today radio programme he had seen white phosphorous used "as an incendiary weapon" against insurgents.
However, he "never saw anybody intentionally use any weapon against civilians", he said.
Now, is it just me, or does that sound like these incendiary weapons were used on Civilians? I mean, whether or not it was intentional seems debatable, but his statement definitely sounds like Civilians were affected by the US' use of White Phospherous.
Also, i'd like to add a comment on whomever made the call to use White Phospherous; 'whoever they are, they're dicks'

Well, accidents do happen when you play with fire.

my dad since retireing from the Air Force works for DTRA down in NM and the go out to WhiteSand for weapons tests, he says white phosphorus is one of the best anti personnel weapons they have.
and didnt they use it a bunch in WWII?

Napalm is pretty ****ing effective too. You don't see people saying it's ok to use that either though do you?

So are nukes.

Not exactly. Unlike bug spray, it always catches on fire.

Not exactly. Unlike bug spray, it always catches on fire.
It's like the lubricate of war, the very water of life and rimordial soup on which the primitive appetite of destruction is constructed. There is nothing more pure, clean and true than the stench of burning flesh and thick black clouds of smoke, gently rising towards the skies as a monument for the things that have been, and will always be, with the mankind. It spreads like a purifying cleansing plague, eradictating the weak and the poor. There is nothing on this ground, or heaven and hell combined, that can give us better guidance to our salvation than the sight of smouldering corpses. Through the ashes we will become stronger, through the ashes we can abolish the weak moral standards we have been tied to for too long and through the ashes we can ascend to immortality.
Napalm is the gift of the Gods to us.

The first five minutes of Team America: World Police sum this up perfectly:
