Graphics are great, getting chased by cops is fun, but thats about it.

*wishes he could get NFS: High Stakes running on his comp again*

I'm also really looking forward to this (of course I am, there were some great suggestions in my other thread about driving games and I decided to give this one a go). It'd be nice if the graphics were a little more adjustable but as it is - I really enjoyed it.

Definitely on my christmas list.

Not too fond of ricing out the cars, personally. But then, the car games I like are more like GT 1-4, Forza, etc... Race, not rice. :p

I'm really not into racing games (except Wipeout, of course. That's ace) - I get very bored very quickly. Not least because I'm truly awful at them...

Aldo's going to kill me for this, I just know it...

Anyway, PGR3 looks damn sweet, and I'll probably pick it up instead of NFSMW.

I'll ****ing kill you instead if you're not careful.

Anyway, NFS:MW - I literally just played the demo and I have a comments:

1 - Yes, the cop chases are fun, and it's nice to be racing around a new city.
2- WTF have they done to the engine? I used to love the slick loading times of NFSU and NFSU2. Now it takes forever. Hell the entire city loaded in NFSU2 quicker than one map in MW (which I suspect may be to do with the shift over to DirectX 9.0c.
3- Once again, in comparison to NFSU2 the engine requires far more power than before for the exact same settings.

Put simply, the cop chase was fun, but I'm not otherwise impressed.

The map in MW is in esscense a city.  The races just give you different routes through the city, but the whole thing is loaded.

For the above post, that's the best looking racing game I have ever seen!  This makes me hate the X360 even more!

It's just as bad since, as I said, NFSU2 loaded the city faster.

I beg to differ vyper, I haven't noticed much different if any (and we're talking maybe a second or two at most) for the loading times.

I will say one thing though, judging from the demo, the use of glow is very very fierce. Sure it looks kinda pretty but it's also not realistic at all.

I'm not, played both UG and UG2, and I can say that I hate the street car games. But, I like NFS 3 and NFS4. I wish they would go back to the supercars. :sigh:

Check out Most Wanted then... granted they've taken a twist towards street car style within it, but even the demo features a Porsche and a Dodge Viper. I'd hardly call those street cars. Of course there's also a VW Golf (tuned of course) and in the full game I believe I saw an Evo. But there'll also be a Lambo, a Lotus and an Aston Martin.

Which means there's at least some diversity.

I am not excited at all.  Matter of fact, I am rather loathesome of the game.  The last good NFS game was Porsche 2000, that game was infinitely better than the pre-teen-bopper bull**** that is put out by EA now.  I am not even willing to try the demo, as Underground killed the whole franchise for me.

Games focused on cars bore me witless. Hell, the focus on cars is 75% of the reason I didn't ever finish GTA3 or GTA:VC (and never bothered with GTA:SA).

Aside from that, however, I must give props where props are due: Both NFS:MW and PGR look very beautiful.

50% of Grand Theft Auto is about driving/stealing cars. The rest is made up of killing people, typically by USING the cars you steal.

You don't see a focus on cars in GTA? It's in the friggin NAME: Grand Theft Auto. :p

What video card are you using?
A Radeon 9800 Pro 128MB. That said, I also have 2GB of PC2100 RAM inside this machine which has made a world of difference to most loading times. As it stands I need a new graphics card as that is now the bottleneck for new games.

That said, if graphics are your problem then the Radeon 9800 is cheap as chips these days. Sure it's not PCI-E but who cares.

a) Leave it to Deep to plug his Xbox ****. Some things just don't change.

b) Hot Pursuit was the best NFS game, the whole Underground idea and the Porsche 911 **** was a nosedive from productive thinking.

I really wonder what the new one will be like.

c) I nearly forgot, I need to plug some **** of my own. Deepblue has the right idea.

Don't forget to play all your games on the new Samsung flatscreen

I have a 256MB GeForce 5600FX - so video shouldn't be the problem really, I guess your memory is the difference.

I have absolutely no problems with loading times. Using the default highest settings with 1024x768.
My rig: A64 3200+. 1GB RAM, Radeon 9800XT 256MB.

I didnt notice ANY loading time increases...  and you must remember it IS loading the entire city, its just that there are some blocks becaseu some of the tracks make you go on a certain route....  If you do the roadblock challenge, there are VERY few places where the streets are blocked off, thus the ENTIRE city is being loaded, not just the track...

in a nutshell, LOADING TIMES REMAIN THE SAME...
