Right. We've discussed it before. We've said it would be cool, one day. We've told ourselves we'd get around to it. Well, **** that I say. Lets just do it.
With Steak's freedom about to be harshly curtailed (:p), we're running out of time before being "responsible adults" catches up with the majority of us and we never again get to do anything fun. Ever.
So. In 2006, we are going to get all the Aussie HLP regulars (and whoever else happens to be around) into the one place (prolly Sydney) at the one time. The only debate is going to be when, and where me, Grug and the other interstaters are going to stay.
And one thing - I'm serious about this. If you want me to put it another way, I'm going to the East Coast some time next year, and if we don't plan it, Steak, Grug, VA and whoever else I can find are going to get a seemingly random sandgroper knocking on their door saying "Hey" at some inconvenient and difficult to explain moment.
[EDIT] For the record, I'm thinking Semester break would be the best time for this, even though it will mean inflated ticket and accomodation prices. I have 2 Tuition Free Weeks from the 17th to the 28th of April, but the chances of that being synched with everyone elses schedule is, I suspect, pretty low. My forst semester next year finishes on the 23rd of June and starts again on the 31st of July, which I suspect will be easier to fit in. So, who else is coming and when can you come?
-
The smart thing to do would be to coincide this with Steak's wedding, as there'll be free alcohol.
-
Lol.
And for the record, where is ausse? N.A., Euorpe, ****ing china, where?
-
And for the record, where is ausse? N.A., Euorpe, ****ing china, where?
It's a continent. There's only seven of them, it's not that hard to remember them :p
I'm not completely sure when I'd be able to come, but some time after May could probably work. I'm not very organised at the moment so I don't really know.
-
Lol.

*Bursts out in laughter
Australia.

-
Lol.

*snicker, but still sigh*
Sadly, I fear that most Americans would wonder the same thing... :sigh:

Not true! I was one of the best in my geography class. Name a country, I could tell you where it is. It does, however sadden me that close to 10% of our own students don't even know where some of our own states are.
-
Already been to a meeting with people from the Eve-online comunity in Austria last weekend:D
Was great fun:D
-
Name a country, I could tell you where it is.
Somalia. :ha:
-
Thaty one was located in the **** last time I checked ;)
Well, wrong side of the planet for me alas, still, want to go to Aussie one day if I can ever afford it :)

If you're serious about me answering, upper East Coast of Africa. Borders the Indian Ocean (Gulf of Aden, if I remember) and Ethiopia.
-
Oh, very good. :) Did you have to learn every country?
-
Steaks getting married?
Well...looks like I'm more out of the loop than I thought.
'Gratulations.
-
There's a thread about it somewhere here...
-

Not all of 'em, its just when someone mentions one by name, I tend to know the general vicinity its in. Its sort of an inborn thing. Plus, I study on my own time, as I plan to go to Europe, the Far East, and possibly New Zealand and Australia someday.
-
I'm totally there. I've gotta think of where you can stay - my house is full of bachelors at the moment (my dad and brother), so if you're looking at midyear next year, I could take a few guys. Physically speaking, that is. Gotta clear it up with the family. ;)
I'm also going to be far more free in that midyear time btw (June-July) - towards the end of July I'll probably be away for a week; I'll get you some exact dates.

Indeed. Thanks. :) For the thread in question: http://www.hard-light.net/forums/index.php/topic,36865.0.html

Congrats Steak!:D
Btw..on a side note, i have quit smoking for real now:D 2 months and still clean:D

We already had an international HLP meet-up, with me, my brother (Splinter), Galemp, and Su-Tehp in downtown NYC. Was fun. Especially the part where we saw Galemp walking around Penn Station with a cardboard sign that read "HLP" held up to his chest - I can't help but wonder how many people saw him and thought that indeed, he really DID need "HLP". :p
-
-
there's no excuse for not having a picture of that
-
well, I suppose anyone over here might be "welcome" to the Warpstorm London Meetup in March... ;)
-
It's ok with me, http://warpstorm.com/community/index.php?topic=9550.0 .
That reminds me, I need to get my bus tickets sorted.
-
I'll proberly be in austria again in March for a long weekend from friday till monday night and then fly back again.
Or i can go to London, hmmm....prety much any place in europe i can go to not that exspensive.
argh!

If I'm holding up a sign, it's saying "get over here you nerds". :p
-
If all goes as expected, I should be free most of the year (gap year). If all doesn't go as expected, it means I got the scholarship I don't think I'll get. ;)

Maybe I live in an isolated packet of intelligence then. In fact, I know about 3 people in my school who are from Aussie land.
-
Yeah... a rather large isolated pocket of intelligence. I live there too.
-
I do as well.
-
that is, an unnamed evil empire located under the bridge?
-
i'll be there in guant. tasmanian spirit ;)
-
*Raises eyebrow* Hmmm, interesting... Put me down for 'maybe'...
-
YEAH! W00T!
I am so there!
Will have to set some dates and start saving. Wish I could get my new digicam before then though. ><
Too many other things on the list. :p
My semester break is between the 7th of June and the 17th of July. So sometime late June / early July would be good?
Wot bout you Mr Woo? When's are you free.
It would make it so much easier and cheaper to do if we / I could get free boarding for however long we are down there. Probably could pitch in for some expenses I'm sure.
How long are we going to hang out down there?
A weekend, a few days, a week? < a week would probably be easiest.
Obvcourse assuming we are going to sydney. :p Brisbane has beutiful summer weather coming up... :p
But yeah, Black Wolf, we are so going on a pub crawl! (+ anyone else who's up for the challenge :p )^_^
FOREWARNING: I am nuts. I say it alot, but I'm not joking.
!!! ^_^ *is excited*
-
hmm.....there selling lots of good tickets to Australia these days, plus ill be getting a job soon....not it isn't that far away if I tried :p :/
The question would be would Steak be willing to accept a crazy Sikh Indian tourist guy that speaks with a slight Chinese accent and bears some resemblence (appearance-wise) to a muslim terrorist :p

LoL!
I'd love to meet up with you dude.
I want to mine your grey matter and try and figure out where your inspiration comes from! :p ;)

Of course :) Steak, we'll leave the research into quality drinking houses to you for the moment.
I'm thinking I'll be over there a week, though how much of that will be HLPized and how much will be general touristy stuff I don't know. The alternative is to get a 1 way ticket and just head back to whosever city will put up with me for a few days and make a more general trip out of it - dunno yet...
-
Awsome. :)
I might start digging around, see who else I know down there that might be willing to put me up for a day or so. :)
-
Rich bastards.
That is all.
-
Not rich, just determined.
If you got a job and willpower, you can save for near anything. :)
Even if you have to live like a spartan for a few weeks. :p
-
A monkey could save up the £1500 to get to Australia.
It's just a matter of wether he can go 4 months without food or not.
-
I think this might be a fun idea
All us US East Coast HLPpl can have a meeting or something
i know Stratt lives less than an hour away from me, any other East Coast US types around here (preferably southern)?
(no, i am not a 'southerner' *shudders* i actually go to college, im a physics major, and i dont have an accent, or a gun, or a domesticated pig)
