Is that background a model? I can see the wireframes... (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/frown.gif) Beautiful shot tho, if not a bit dark. But I guess that's the realism, eh? Nice pic. (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/smile.gif)
-
ya the background is a few plains but they got all wirey, so I'm reduing it.

Keep it up! It looks excellent.
-
Better than any I've done...

what did Bobboau learn today kids
well Bobboau learned Turespace sucks with transparencys and anything with tranceparency should be removed from the radiosity prior to iteration.

i figured out how to fix that once... i think it's ambient glow to max - everything else to zero on the phong attributes
details on the background model.. because all mine are ****ty
-
I just used constant, but if you want it to glow use translucent plastic.

really? and does that work for weapons effects also? making them "glow" a bit around the edges?
-
Hm... I'll have to try that too. Weapons are hard.
-
I mostly use lens flares for pulse weapons, but it works for beams.

Retouch it in Photoshop for the plasma effect... And Just Say no to Lens Flares!

that was just a quick example, wasn't a final product
with it you can make things like this

Whoa, that looks really, really cool. Very moody, so realistic.
And, weapons effects aren't... that hard...
-
wich one "GVI Cairo" or " The Discovery"

I'm not sure about the explosion on the moloch, tho
-
The Discovery, Bobboau. (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/smile.gif)
-
The explosion seems to be a full 3D explosion. I've always thought bitmaps look better (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/tongue.gif)
-
I was trying something diferent, and they it looks better is it's animated and has debris and such. that GVI one is several months old.

Bobboau's right (naturally), that render is several months old. I'm surprised you don't do renders more often Bobboau, you're very good at them.
-
there are very few 3D applications that can properly do fire and explosions...and they're all damn slow.
Most of the time you're better off compositing a REAL explosion in (thats what they do in movies anyway)
unless you have access to a highly parrallel renderfarm.

stepping down to medium quality fixed it but that's a loss of features
