Title: idea: campain upgrade

ok, one of the reasons why nothing gets back ported to the campain is because adding anyhting systematic to it WILL unbalence it. so what if we start makeing stuff new for the main campain, modify some of the weapons to use new effects/features (maxim useing ammo for instance), maybe add a few new missions that would allow the use of things like SSM, and we go in and rebalence everything. if any new cool gameplay features are developed, we can patch them in as well.
now, this wouldn't be a new campain, and it would not be generaly closed as most campains are (when ever a new version of a mission is made and is done it will be publicly available) and it would not realy be 're-makeing' the origonal, most of the time the changes will be minimal.

I never visit that forums.. so, yeah

but I was thinking adding in new stuff, it wouldn't be re-writeing, but makeing big changes (adding bombers and fighters to high noon for example) might happen.

I support the idea. If people don't want a edited main campaign then they don't have to download it.

The biggest prob I see is voice acting, and fighting over how missions should be changed.

1) IMHO just re-FRED-ing the missions with newer (more effective? elegant?) sexps seems like a good idea.
2) Implementing a number of effect/graphics specifics upgrades that also affect the gameplay also seems like a good thing, since finally - IT'LL UPSET BALANCE! - arguement would void since the missions would be retweaked anyway.

Until you remember that the main campaign isn't the only campaign ever released :rolleyes:

You'd have to do this to every single mod ever released before you can take away that argument. :p

You may be wondering why this is labeled as "reborn". While once a campaign, or two campaigns, or something, the FSU is now a completely open project, with two goals:
