I just thought about this: what if you could implement a mod selection feature into FRED_Open?

like this: you have a launcher for FRED (yes, another launcher :p) that allows you to choose a mod, and maybe a separate tab to choose specific ships you want to use for that particular mission. would this be possible and go well with the community?

Not worth it. Choosing individual ships like that would be a PITA because it'd require changes to the fundamental file-loading functions.

Swapping mods is as easy as making another FRED shortcut or changing the existing one with the -mod command line.

If you want to use ships from multiple mods, use an Inferno build, the multiple mod command line, and make the ships, weapons, and weapon_expl tables modular.
