22 mission demo ( Available 16th Dec 05)
Screenshots will be posted monday
Background:
The year i2 2257, you start by finishing your final 4 weeks star fury training at the IO Transfer point. After successful completion of your training you spend 2 weeks aboard the EA Apollo as it takes you to Babylon 5 where you will be permenantly stationed. The storyline then follows the B5 storyline from 2258 through to 2263. The finished campaign will boast more than 120 missions and will have many cut scenes and bonus missions. During the course of the campaign you get to pilot Star Furies, Minbari fighters, Narn fighters, Centauri fighters and many more ships. The missions will vary from coffee and cake run missions to tactical attack and war scenario missions. The time taken to complete these missions will vary from 5 minutes to over an hour.
Status so far - More than half of the missions are already complete, 1/4 of the cut scenes and intro are complete. We are currently beta testing the 22 mission demo due for release shortly to iron out any bugs prior to release.
The b5 heat em up site is currently down, we will shortly have this back up and running.

Demo update :
Everything A ok, well apart from a few small quirks. After instaling openAL i can new use the latest redmenace build fs2 open 09122005. Using the new fred 3.6.7 I have resaved all the missions in the new fred and are all working fine now and with cut scenes. Just a few small quirks, 1st is the Olympus in mission is in bits literally, most of the actual model is missing, probably a graphical error. For the demo release i replace the olypus with a Centauri Vorchan, this will be used in 2 missions in the 28 mission demo. 2nd is a few sound problems - briefings and debriefings. Samples used in debrief and breifing seem to reapeat once or twice.
Demo still on track for release on Friday 16th dec 05 and as an early christmas prerssie for all u B5 fans, Ive included 5 more missions wich take you to the fisrt mission in season 2.

Severed Dreams is eventually going to be included, right?
See, I offered to get some clips out of the ep for comms animations, but I still haven't heard word one on what tools I need to convert divx video into anis for comms animations. I think I can take the clips needed using VirtualDub, but that still leaves me unable to convert them. Please, someone, at least give me a link here.
-
I once did a document on how to change game footage into .ani files with various utilities. It was called "Command briefing animations on the cheap" or something like that and involved FRAPS, InfranView, VirtualDub, and AniBuilder. Unfortunately search does not work in the forums at the moment but maybe someone somewhere has a copy of the instructions I wrote?
-
Svered dreams will be include, but not in the demo release, the 28 mission demo starts from season one and ends after the first mission in season 2.
I cant remember the software which was stipulated by Ian to re-encode video as anim files, but when it was discussed was about a year ago if you date order the threads and have a look through them.
-
Tested the campaign again last night, all working fine except a few graphical bugs. I will check with the beta testers if they have the same graphic bugs to see if its to do with graphic cards. Beta testers picked up a few more minor bugs wich will be changed tonight for the release of the demo tomorrow. After playing through the full 28 missions last night there is no briefing audio, on any of the missions, Its all set up right could be the build or my pc, going to test it an another one and check with the beta testers if they have the same problem.

KNOWN BUGS
1. Certain ships eg. star fury, Sharlin, Olypus etc will experience wierd and wonderfull graphical problems which make the ship or parts of it seem to dissapear or have the wrong textures on them. This is a known bug which should be fixed with a new base release of tbp.
2. Cut scenes may not play properly, after a cut scene has loaded the loading screen will still show and only the audio from the cut scene will play. This is totally random, if this does happen just exit out of the game and rty loading again. This problem is being looked into and should be solved with a patch or a new build.
3. Briefing speech doesnt play on any mission. The audio speech does not seem to play on any of the missions, we are currently looking into this.
Apart from these bugs everything seems A OK
 :p :) ;) ;) :)

I have a weird problem in the mission New Arrivals. There is no B5-station :o) It's a bit hard to do a flyby of something that doesn't exist, though after I followed the other starfury the mission was completed, but the I was told to dock with B5, and that was impolssible as you can imagine. What could be done about this ?

If you're using 3.3 you'll have a problem in that the name of the B5 station was changed and as such there is a starfury flying about that thinks it's Babylon 5.
If you know how to use FRED it will take all of a few seconds to fix the problem. Simply open the mission up in FRED, Find B5 and change the ship back to B5. Otherwise select the mission in the flight simulator (you'll find it in the tech room) and tell me what the missions filename is. Then I'll fix it.

-
"You don't want to mess with that starfury, boy. He's two million, five hundred thousand tons of spinning metal. He'll kill your ass!"
-
For some reason FRED doesn't work as of 3.3. Just give's some odd error about parsing and such. Anyway the filename in the techroom was so long it didn't show correctly, but I'd guess it's Babylon 5 HEU 10 T10.fs2.
Just my luck, when playing that some starfury pilot gets delusions of grandeur :o)

Hmmm. It appears I have an old copy of Heat Em Up. I'll take a look once I've finished downloading the new version.
-
You can also open the mission in a text editor like Wordpad, scroll down to the Babylon 5 entry and change the ship class from "EA Babylon 5" to "Babylon 5 (S1)". That way, it'll preserve all the settings properly.
-
I'm having the same problem here, a starfury with B5 attitude
But what do I open with text editor? In the zip I d/l I have some vids, a laucher (Laucher5), Fs2_open_r, a vp file called b5heatemup.vp and flags.lch, no mission files to speak of. So what do i do?

You can open the vp file with a text editor, but it won't let me change the class name to anything that has more letters than the old one.
I dont know how to get around that problem.

The mission files will be stored in the b5heatemup.vp file. You'll need to open the vp file with VPview, or some other VP viewer program. Then extract the offending mission to the "data/missions" directory (create the directory if it isn't already there), then open the mission in the text editor and proceed as I instructed.

That worked, thanks. About the Shadows of the future (or something) mission, where you have to search for the unknown ship floating somewhere in the asteroid field .. is there another missnaming at work, since I'm not able to find it?
Quick review of the demo:
Every brief starts with "Good afternoon, pilot" ... does everything happen in the afternoon ? It really started to annoy me. Briefs could inform the pilot whether he's in command of the mission, or flying second and so on. I know, I know, you can easily check it when the missions starts, but still. The missions where you change ships or go to the jumpgate just to get on the otherside are in my opinion destroying the pace of the campaign. I know it's realistic, but still for an optimum game experience, I would go with a bit more compact set of missions.
Finally, if you like to add to the atmosphere of the B5 and surroundings you should add some traffic there unless it's too much for computers to handle. ATM B5 seems a bit void and a quiet place which it isn't.

-
On the shadow of the future mission the shadow fighter is located 5000clicks directly in front of your omega when you start, when you get within 2000 clicks it would appear as an unknown ship on your scanners. Since a few people are having probs finding it then I am going to place a target marker near the ship. That should make it easier to find :)
On some briefings it says good morning instead of good afternoon. I might even put in a few good evenings just for good measure  The brefings have audio speech but these don`t seem to play in the demo, they will be sorted for the full release in summer.
I have already added more ships to create a busy station effect. These will all be in the full release in summer :)
-
Trust me, it won't show up. I looked at the mission in FRED and yes it seems to be there, but in-game it won't show. Are you sure everything should work with 3.3?
-Dip
-
Did you check the ship's arrival cue? A ship can easily be in the mission file/script and never actually show up in a mission for any number of intended or accidental reasons.

Like I pointed out in numerous posts, it was made for 3.2. I am currently updating it to work with 3.3 which should be after weekend hopefully :)
-
The B5 Heat em up website is almost finished. By this weekend we should have the B5 Heat em up site finished and online. Narn wars will also be available for download when the site goes online, Narn wars will be for tbp 3.3 release. The prevoius demo release of B5 heat em up will no longer be available, as the first 28 missions will be changed slightly to shift over to a more action orientated campiagn. We have dropped the realistic approach due to player feedback. Watch this space for info on the site when it goes on line.
We also require 10 voice actors and 8 beta testers.
Just PM me with your details if you are interested. ;)

The Heat Em Up web site is now online : www.heatemup.stargame.co.uk
The site features more info on heat em up, downloads - Survivor & Infestation for 3.3 and The Long Twilight struggle mission. Narn wars will be added shortly along with another huge demo comprising of the entire season 2 from the full campaign. This will be available at the end of March (You lucky, lucky people!)
