Post by: Ragnarok on December 14, 2005, 12:09:18 am
Hey, every time I install FS2 and play it i always get this error and all I have to do is hit debug and then maxamize the windows again to play, but since I installed the open source mod with all the graphics packs when I get this error now I cant maxamize the window again and the game crashes.... Heres a pic of the error, doesnt look like anything to bad because it just dosnt seem to reconise the Icini....anybody know a quick fix?

Try moving the mod files to another folder.

Do you have a list of what you've added to retail FS2?

To use all that you're going to need a CVS build (http://www.hard-light.net/forums/index.php/topic,34852.0.html) and Launcher 5.3 (http://scp.indiegames.us/download.php?view.133), are you using both?

Im using launcher 5.2 and I dont think I have installed a cvs build thingy, but I do see vast graphical improvements. But thats not where the problem is. If you have read my first post you would know that that same error was there even when I was using the stock version of fs2, but the only difference was that I could just click debug and then maxamize the window and keep playing and never get that bug again unless i tried to play that mission. But with the open source version I cannot maxamize the window again because the game entirely crashes on that singel mission.

This isn't really a problem with FS2_Open as you've stated that you got it in retail. So maybe we need to solve the underlying problem rather than trying to figure how to get the bandaid to stick to the enormous bleeding wound then :)

Your problem appears to be that you have no NTF Iceni in the version of the ships.tbl that your copy of FS2 is using. That leads me to believe that you've installed a mod (my guess would be Derelict) that has removed it. So what you need to do is go back to a proper FS2 install with no mods installed.

The simplest way to do that is simply to reinstall (back up your Freespace2\Data\Players folder first) but if you're reluctant to do that for some reason go into your Freespace2\data\tables directory and check for a file called ships.tbl. If it exists rename it file to something like disabled-ships.tbl
If that doesn't solve your problem or you find no file by that name (It may be hiding else where in your FreeSpace 2 folder) your problem is most likely a rogue .vp file.

The Official .vp files have the following names

    * root_fs2.vp
    * sparky_fs2.vp
    * sparky_hi_fs2.vp
    * stu_fs2.vp
    * tango1_fs2.vp
    * tango2_fs2.vp
    * tango3_fs2.vp
    * smarty_fs2.vp
    * warble_fs2.vp

If you have a vp file that with mv_ then move it to a folder called MediaVPs. (You can drag them out later but for the moment lets rule them out as the source of the problem). Any other files should be deleted, renamed to .extentionDisabled or simply put in a folder like Freespace2\JunkI'llDealWithLater.

Thank you!!, Im glad sombody finally listened to me about it not being a FS2 Open mod problem. Your Fix worked.....it was probibally Derelict because I had it installed.

Well WMCoolmon did ask you what you had added on top of retail FS2 and you didn't mention Derelict :p

I assure you my pc can run it, I have a 3.2Ghz Pentium 4, 1 GB of the best Corsair DDR2 PC 3200, I have an Ati Radeon 9800 Pro, Abit IC7-Max 3, and a Sound Blaster ZS.

Reading through this thread again, I realized...beam slowdown patch? What the hell was I thinking (or smoking)? It has nothing to do with slowing down beams. :lol:

Guess I'd better get out the 'ol breathalyzer...

Anywho, run a debug build if you can, those are exes suffixed with "_d", like "fs2_open_367_d" (except don't use 3.6.7, use a CVS build, because 3.6.7 doesn't work with the third mediaVP patch).

Just checking but you're not using something ridiculously old like 3.6.5 are you? Cause you've basically described the 3.6.5 mv_music.vp bug. What build are you using? The fact that you're still on Launcher 5.2 seems to suggest it's something old. Get yourself 3.6.7 or something from the CVS builds thread in the recent builds forum.
