Speed sucks... 16KB/s... maximus... US serv sucks...
-
I'm sure it's worth the wait.
-
you bet ( guess it is right time say shis fraze)... just complains of mine, sorry
-
Well, when we no longer have our own server for downloads, it just goes with the territory that we'll have to use free servers, and that they will be slow. But don't let that keep you away, it is definately worth the wait.
-
Might take a while, but dont have much choice for hosting, (beggars can`t be choosers!). Its worth the wait!!!
-
Commencing download...It's going to be long, but worthy wait
-
368 MB ?!? ....that's a lot of CB anis. But at least I get around 40 kB/s.
-
Just downloaded it. Created a fresh install and copied it accross. Started up watching the intro credits, and then there was no campaign to select, and no missions to start. Any ideas what's gone wrong?
-
Tried it in my normal TBP folder and the campaign appeared, I just didn't have the opening credits sequence.
-
just dl and installed the campaign followed the readme now it wont start game grrhhh   any ideas??
-
Hmm, i`m getting 106 kbs for download speed, so i`m not doing to bad... 57 minuets till done.. I love having cable. :D
-
djhardrock try moving the downloaded files to your normal tbp folder (not a new clean build) that worked for me, but as I've said it lost me the opening sequence.
Mission 3 appears to have an no end problem - the EAS Trinity was destroyed before the Raider carrier jumped, the should we chase message was sent by 'EA pilot' and the mission didn't end, I tried several time compressed minutes but nothing happened. Also mission 3 is hard, though mostly because the entirety of wave 4 appears to attack the trinity from inside it's engine wake , and the trinity's seemingly eratic movements make it very vunerable to blind side attacks. Giving up for now as frustation>enjoyment. Will go back to it tomorrow, when I have time
Oh yes and on mission 3 you suddenly lose control of your ship (no weapons fire, movement etc) if I try restarting without returning to the briefing/ready room.
Sorry I didn't have the time to help play test madaboutgames
-
moving the downloaded files to your normal tbp folder (not a new clean build) that worked for me, but as I've said it lost me the opening sequence.
(not a new clean build) you mean the old fs2_open_r.exe =[
-
When I installed it I reran the TBP base 3.2 installer on a seperate and new directory to my existing one (which I I've downloaded newer builds, etc for). Trying to run it from this new directory resulted in the opening animation being played (which starts before you enter a username I think) but with no campaigns listed. Copying the heat-em-up files and running them from original directory (the one with various changes
to it) and I was able to start playing the campaign but lost the opening animation.
Hope that helps. If it doesn't the only thing I can think to try is to copy one of the existing campaign like raider wars accross to your heat em up directory and see if that appears in the campaign list.
-
Just tried installing raider wars in my heat em up TBP folder, the files extracted as expected but the RW campaign was listed either, so there obviosuly some issue with loading campaigns. For information - the intro still ran after installing RW's.
-
Woops disregard everything I said. I haven't got heat em up to work at all. I was playing the Black Hand Demo. That'll teach me to read things more carefully. *kicks self* Doh.
On the other hand the Black Hand Demo isn't bad.
-
Hmm, it doesen`t show up in the campaign room for me eather..
So I tried the following, open the B5HeatEmUpDemo.vp, which is 323mb with vpview..
I used ver. 1.3 (build29) but it shows an empty window, that, can`t be right... or.......
Is there a limit to the size of a file that vpview can open?
(edit) I originally wanted to extract the tables to the game directories, figured i`d mention that. :)
-
Intro is playing...but the there is no campaign to select... tried to install Heatemup on clean build and my old with wdf campaign...
damn...
-
Same thing is wrong here, intro plays well but after it....no campaing and no missions.
Also, I too can't see the contests of the VP-files.
-
And when I enter the launcher there is a warning window, it says Unrecognised command line parameter -tbpwarpeffects, continue?
any idea how to deal with that?
-
So does it work for anyone?
-
No luck here. Tried stand-alone install. No dice. Tried importing to the usual directory. No luck there, either.
-
There's something wrong with the VP, maybe it got corrupted during upload ?
-
Hopefully it will be patchable. I don't want to have to download that lot again (I won't have enough download limit till january either
-
Ouch 350 MB for the demo !! :shaking:
-
Looks like everyone is haqving priobs with it. If it doesnt play the intro and the cut scenes it is beacause you are not using the build supplied with the demo. As the the campaigns not showing up there must be a problem with the vp file. I will upload the campaign file with is only 250k on monday this should solve the problem. ;)
-
Filefront don't give me the file :/
It says, wait until FF try to connect and then, nothing else.
-
I had a problem with the Filefront too, I got the download working by doing the following:
When it says your download is ready, grab the link "click this link" with your mouse and move it to the address field, download should start now.
Works for the Firefox at least...
-
There's something wrong with the VP, maybe it got corrupted during upload ?
Noticed the same. I'm getting the intro video, then the game is just the same as before installation. I tested the VP, and it doesn't open on Descent Manager VPView. It just announces that it has performed an illegal operation and will be quit...
I'd like to know if many others have had similar problems (which would refer to a compatibility problem, obviously) or only few (which would hint that the download was corrupted). I'm obviously not very keen on downloading the whole zip file again with that 30 k/s pipe...
Oh, some specs...
OS: Windows XP SP2 Home Edition (Finnish)
CPU: AMD 64 Athlon 3200+
Memory: 1024 MB DDR-SDRAM
Video: NVidia GeForce 6600 @ 256 MB
Build: fs_open_3.6.7 - the stock TBP build doesn't work properly on this system (probably due AMD 64 dual core, it crashes frequently), and neither does the build included in the Heat'em Up demo download - that one actually refused to start, it was missing OpenAL32.dll
-
Why are there new Launcher and Fs_open files in the zip?
Now I can imagine the fs_open file to be edited for a mod, but the launcher?
I really hope the fs_open file in there isn't needed, because I prefer to put mods into their own folder inside the TBP folder and select them via the modmanager in the launcher.
And I too seem to have downloaded a corrupted version.
When I open the vp file with vpview I get a lot of entries with cryptic names, type: ? <Unknown> and 1 kB sice.
-
well, everybody who's seeing the opening credits s lucky i guess. when i open the launcher to select the fs2_open and so on, it says that it failed to read the flag file. when i click the fs2_open_r.exe in explorer it gives the me a fatal error. it says that it cant find the "OpenAL32.dll". and says that reinstalling it may fix the problem, which is not the case.
i tried to install it clean and to open it from my original install, but i can't seem to get it to work
-
Build 3.6.7 of fs2_open works good for me. The build that is included on the download does not work, it gives the similar announcement of a missing file - which does come with neither TBP install or Heat'Em Up Demo, so re-installing does not indeed help.
My guess is that either the vp file is corrupted or created using an incompatible tool, which causes some systems not to understand it, though I don't actually see a way how that could be the case. So I'd go for a corrupted download... *sigh*
Well, gonna make my comp dl that file again during the night. We'll see if it co-operates then...

Good, I can wait till then. :)
Come monday then :D

Uploading two files today, uploading an updated demo patch today which includes all missions and campaign update, the correct intro (old intro was included with the demo by mistake), and a missing sound file. This will be 30mb. I am also uploading the full deno again (updated) 341mb.
Some people may also experience the fs2-open not opening. This can be solved by installing openAL (all new builds require it) - http://www.openal.org
The build and launcher from the demo must be used because :
These are the latest builds and are tested for compatability.
Problems with older builds causes errors and failed events.
All missions done in fred 3.6.7 so will not work with old builds.
Old builds do not play cut-scenes.
These builds are Mac/Linux compatible.
There must have been a problem with either the upload or the vp file, as this was working fine for all beta testers. I have tried the new updated demo on 2 different computers and works fine.
After uploads of new material complete I will post the Urls, sorry about this everyone.
Shaun
-
Good look Shaun. Hope it goes better for you this time. Releasing a campaign is fun ain' t it ;).
-
Sure is
-
Hi shaun I think there was a problem with the upload. My download stops after about a min no matter what server I pick. Anyone else having this trouble.
-
I have a different problem with FileFront... I only ever get 0.44 Mb before I'm disconnected! Happens every time, at exactly 0.44 Mb... Tried GetRight (had to start from 0, never got past 0.44), Firefox and Explorer. I do hope it's a passing thing...
-
New demo and patch uploaded. ;)
Updated demo (341mb) - http://files.filefront.com/B5HeatEmUpDemozip/;4490597;;/fileinfo.html
Demo Patch 1.2 (29.35mb) - for previous demo 1b

KNOWN BUGS
1. Certain ships eg. star fury, Sharlin, Olypus etc will experience wierd and wonderfull graphical problems which make the ship or parts of it seem to dissapear or have the wrong textures on them. This is a known bug which should be fixed with a new base release of tbp.
2. Cut scenes may not play properly, after a cut scene has loaded the loading screen will still show and only the audio from the cut scene will play. This is totally random, if this does happen just exit out of the game and rty loading again. This problem is being looked into and should be solved with a patch or a new build.
3. Briefing speech doesnt play on any mission. The audio speech does not seem to play on any of the missions, we are currently looking into this.
Apart from these bugs everything seems A OK

Now the campaign is visible all right, but there seems to be at least no mission 1... or it's in wrong place. Or does that also happen because I'm not using the fsopen build provided with demo?
I'm not currently using the fs_open_r.exe provided with demo download, as I don't know what build it exactly is. For example, the build provided with standard TBP 3.2 download doesn't work very well with my computer, it crashes frequently... so, would you like to tell some things about the build? Is it, for example, optimized for A64 processor, like my current build?
Besides, my current build seems to show the intro video (and probably other cutscenes as well) quite without any trouble, so...
-
I could have predicted that was going to happen. The VP appears to be corrupt. Sticking in a new campaigns file will just mean that you get a campaign but it crashes out the first time it comes across something that isn't in the demo patch (i.e any of the missions).
You're probably best off downloading the entire thing again but I'm going to try something to see if I can get things to work for those of you for whom this would be a huge task.
-
Okay, I downloaded the updated campaign, and now it works...at least to some extent. I tossed that patch file away.
As I said, I'm not using the fs_open exec provided with download, but I see the intro movie with fs_open_3.6.7 optimized for AMD 64...
Though I have another question now.
Are all the training missions supposed to start with 17% hull left? Because that's what happens here... On mission start I'm on 17 % hull.
Not that they couldn't be completed, but it started to piss me off a little when my hull dropped below 8 or something on that "destroy all wings" mission (I wasn't even hit, it was the shockwaves from exploding zephyrs that dropped my hull...) and the command announced that I'm by no means ready for combat...
Is this something that happens because I'm not using the build provided with demo? Or are these missions for some reason supposed to be flown with 17 % hull left?
EDIT: Nope, tried with the build that comes with the demo download... still gives 17 % hull.
What more, on the first mission following the training I have no ship at all... According to briefing I'm supposed to be Alpha 4, and Alpha 1 should be my leader. But surprize, there is no Alpha wing - except for a single fighter, Alpha 1, which has 17 % hull left. So there seems to be a bug in the mission... anyone else got that? And, it seems as the 17 % startup hull still holds, and I don't really believe it to be the intention on actual missions...
By the way, it seems now that the fs_open_r provided with this demo does work with my computer, but the launcher does not. It just doesn't start...
EDIT 2: Moreover, it seems that the mission is intact, but the campaign file is somehow screwed, giving always that 17 % hull... I tried the mission no. 7 with -allslev, and noticed that it's stilla a training mission... oh, whatever. The point is, the mission itself worked all right, BUT it doesn't work on the campaign.
All the missions from 1 to 7 seem to be working just fine when I fly them through mission simulator.
-
Shouldnt start with 17% hull integrity, should be 100% on all missions. The only reason for this could be the build of fs2 open. The whole campaign has been tested with the build supplied and all is A Ok with that except a few known bugs. If the new build doesnt work or you get a message saying couldnt open flag file, its because you need to install openAL - www.openal.org
Didn`t think the patch would work, but thought its worth a try as its only 30mb compared to 341mb.
-
Okay... Obviously there's something else thet causes this 17% phenomenon (and other flaws in campaign mode).
Let's try to find where the fault is:
-The missions themselves work flawlessly, when I fly them via tech room/mission simulator. When played as single missions, they start with 100 % hull as they should, so the mission files themselves are obviously not guilty.
-I would also say that the build is not to be accused. I installed that open-thingy and got tried the campaign with the build provided within zip file, withexactly similar results: With both my previous build and the build provided with the demo, the missions of HTU demo start with 17 % hull when played on campaign mode. I say again, I'm gettin similar bug regardless of the build I'm using.
-This leads me to a conclusion that whatever links the missions together as a campaign (or a part of it) is somehow screwed. That would obviously be the campaign file or some part of it. (Is there perhaps some Sexp that leaves a value to some variable and the campaign interprets it as the startup hull strength, or something... gosh, I wouldn't know, have never actually designed a mission, but if writing sexps is anything like writing java code, then there might be a trivial error that displays itself on some occasions...). Sorry that I cannot be of more help, but that's how things go on this computer at least.
By the way, I'm getting the HTU intro video when I run the original Freespace 2 (with fs_open_3.6.7 of course...)... That puzzles me also a bit, as I have The Babylon Project on C:\Program Files\The Babylon Project\ and Freespace 2 is on C:\Pelit\Freespace2\ (Pelit=Games in Finnish)
How the hell does it know where the video is, and why does it do that? Not that it would be of any harm... it's just weird.
-
Anyone else having the 17% hull ingerity problem???
From what you said about the intro also playing with the original freespace 2, this looks like it could be conflicting with it. The fs2 open which is used to load the heat em up should point to the directory - the babylon project/ . The fs2 open which is used to load freespace 2 should point to freespace 2/ . It shouldnt load up the intro from b5 heat em up, its not in the given directory. I think this is where the problem lies. The campaign only contains the mission structure, it does not contain any variables except mission repeats if not completed correctly so this can not be anythinh to do with the campaign file.
Try backing up your freespace 2 then un installing it. try the heat em up again see if that does the trick.
-
Hello everyone!
intro works fine,
but after the mission starts neither my mouse or joystick work anymore,
can't move that starfury, anyone else has that problem?
-
Try setting up your controls again, and make sure your joystick is selected on your launcher.
With a new install of tbp, you need to set everything up again
Worth it though! ;)
-
so, i downloaded all new stuff and it works fine, launcher game and sequwnces are no problem.
BUT, i have a problem with the training mission 5, i cant complete it, cause whenever i should look for the attacking turret of the vorchan, there are no weapons on the ship at all! i tried to get away with failing 5 times, but that isnt possible neither.
any clues for this?
-
The vorchan was originally an olympus, but with the 3.2 and the new fs2 build there are severe graphical problems, most of it was missing. So I opted to use a vorchan untill the 3.3 is released. With 3.3 this bug will be eradicated.
The best bet is to keep flying around the vorchan and press k to target nearest attacking turret. Although the turret may not fire at you it will or should target the turret required to trigger the event. If this fails cycle through the turrets on the vorchan untill you reach the one that is at 100% integrity, this should be the one.
;) :)
-
The game just won't start. I launch the fs2_open_r.exe and nothing happens. This is a fresh install.

 Thats a new one
It looks like it may not have been installed properly, try removing it with control panel/add remove programs, then reinstall it. Don`t forget you need to install openAL.
What version of windows are you using?
-
Ive installed and everything works fine. :D
Had the turet issue but your work around works.
Couple of coments.
The second training, mission where you face 5 waves of fighter is way to hard for a beginer, I completed it but only just. its not to bad on very easy but on easy and medium Id say that this is a little too hard for a novice if they are just starting.
Also the escorte of EF1 in mission 7 is sooooooooooo boring, nothing happens for 25 mins. You just fly to it and then have to stay in formation. I would consider making this a lot shorter maybe 5 mins at the most. Staring at the screen for half an hour and watching the jump gate get bigger a pixcel at a time is not a fun mission. :D
Either make EF 1 move faster than 20mps or start it closer to the jump gate.
Other than that I'm realy enjoying everything.
Oh one more thing I'm also getting the problem with textures. On DX8 some textures are missing from ships most notable some of teh star furies. Also things seam to be way to light. IS their a way to turn the texture brightness down.
Also if i set my grafix on Direct X 5 everything seams to be fine.
Her is my DX diag

training mission worked with your tips, thanks for that! :)
but now i face "midnight on the firing line part 2" the mission wont end, though i destroyed the station and am at the jumpgate. maybe that was because of sinclair died in the fight with the station. but if that causes the mission to fail it would be unfair, cause sinclair is the only one firing at the station while the hole delta squad looks at him.
i also have to agree about the ef1 mission, thats way too long for nothing to happen. thats one thing that makes the campaign less enjoyable at all imo, the ways are way too long, most of the time i fly in accelerated time mode, but then all are claiming to stay in formation, that is not that funny. and those 2 parted missions are also a bit off, i mean a mission just to fly from one ship to a station is not that good.
all in all i enjoy playing the campaign, it has a lot of details in story and is done with a love to details, but those little mistakes in gameplay should be solved ;)
-
Where as I'm simply having no luck whatsoever getting the damn thing to download. I get to about 130MB and then it just hangs forever.
Is there any chance of HLP hosting this? We're supposed to have unlimited downloads now right?
-
The Ceremonies of prominence mission (mission 7)
This matter has been raised by the beta testers, as this was not a show stopper I opted to sort a few of the other matters out first. As in the show its not just abaout combat, some missions like this one break up the game, and after a hefty training tutorial its good for the player to have a bit of a break. This will be attended to in the full release next year, I will either put an ISN feed in there to help with the storyline (if I can Find A Suitable One) or some muisc will play, or I might even make it quicker. You will have to wait and see.
Some missions involve flying or docking with another ship, this is to get the feel of leaving your current attachment and heading for another one and gives a sense of home to the new ship. There are only a couple in the campaign so these are only a quick mission.
On Midnight on the firing line part 2, If sincalir dies then so does Valen, so the storyline realistically will not be able to continue. I think I need to put in a mission restart if sinclair dies this may clear up any confusion.
On the second training mission you dont have to destroy all 5 waves of fighters, you only have to destroy a couple. When your hull reaches a level below 10%, If you have killed enough fighters then you will pass. The training missions are meant to be of a moderate level, this ensures that once the player has successfully conpleted these they are ready for all the campaign has to offer.
There are a few known bugs already on this thread, the problems with some ships graphics are nothing to do with the campaign, they are to do with tbp3.2 and the new builds. When 3.3 is released this bug will be eradicated.
 :D :p ;) :) :p ;) :)

Have anyone had any luck/made in progress in making a patch that will make the orginal version work, so I haven't got to try and download the whole thing again?
-
Not yet, seems unlikeley as the vp was corrupted during upload. But you never know.
-
Is there any chance of HLP hosting this? We're supposed to have unlimited downloads now right?
We don't have monthly bandwidth allowance or sorts, but bandwidth is still not unlimited. We don't want to risk downloads saturating our bandwidth. There is still the BT Tracker and we're also looking for 3rd party download site we could use. Popular downloads can easily saturate even a gigabit connection.
-
The first 3 days of the demo going online, the bandwidth reached over 60gb. Thats just in 3 days  SO I dont think it would be a good idea to host files like these, unfortunatley I will still have to use file front.
Kara may be able to do something with a the corrupt vp in the original download so a working patch could be a possibilty. ;)
-
Try setting up your controls again, and make sure your joystick is selected on your launcher.
With a new install of tbp, you need to set everything up again
Worth it though! ;)
did a new install, works fine now! :D
i like the escort missions.
boring like hell,
but who said being a starfury pilot is all action and glory :ick:
good work!
-
Kara may be able to do something with a the corrupt vp in the original download so a working patch could be a possibilty. ;)
I need to get it to download first though! Gonna give it another try. *Fingers crossed*
To be honest though I suspect I can't salvage it as the new VP is different from the old one rather than simply being an uncorrupted version. If you had added files to the VP using VPMage or something like it then maybe.
-
I got it to work and was playing it this morning.
...... I hope its only the begaining that is this boring and it gets better later. Because some of these missions are downright stupid though I'll probably never know cause I wont be playing it agian :/
First there was the escort the presidents ship. Now its a flyby of b5. Kept messing up and failing trying to compress time, Having the fighter I was following for some reason fly off somewhere else.
Then I figured screw it. I'll do it the real way. Sitting down for the 10-15 minutes it took to go around the station once.
Only to have to do it a second time? Ok so I follow him a second time all the way around...
Instead of finishing then... He then starts on his way of doing it a 3rd time?
Boy is that stupid. I know this is a 28 level demo of your main game you are gonna release next year. My advice is to take out or shorten those missions or at least don't have it fail me if I fly too far from everybody so people can use the speed up command without any worries,
-
Well evertything works fine is just the control are not working i tried to configured it in the game and i added in the josystick at the start but still dont work. Please if anyone knows how can i fix it i will apreciated.
Thank You.
-
madaboutgames, to fix a corrupted vp-file, you can try this tool: http://www.tibed.net/vpatch/
-
Rhythmic, The mission when you do the flyby at B5 when you get posted there, there should only be one pass of the station, then the other star fury you are staying in formation with will dock with b5 and so do you. After this this is where season 1 kicks in and the action starts.
Valorum, not sure what could be causing this problem, again it could be a conflict with another version of Freespace 2, what joystick are you using?
-
I think this turn around the station before getting station there is a good mean to introduce you to it... (allowing B5-newbies to dive into the story perhaps)
but you could put it in an autopilot sequence via the sexpt "player-use-ai"* when the player presses a special button which you have to name of course
We did more or less the same at Awakening Of The Beast where you will start out in more or less senseless action sequence which has no relation to the campaign's story at all... It's just that you learn what the battlegroup** is capable of...
* possible sexpt for this (a deactivation sexpt should be similar):
"Autopilot On - 1stpom"
when
- and
-- is key pressed
---<key of your choise>
--not
---<an agrument allowing you to control if this will tiggered or not>
- player-use-ai

-- ai-wapoints-once
---<waypoint path>

I know about the auto pilot, Ive used it on one of the missions in season 3, I suppose i could impliment this in 2 missions - ceremonies of prominence & New arrivals.
Please be aware that this is based on realism and on the B5 series. Both realistically and in the series a star fury pilot is not just 100% action, there are also "menial" duties to be performed as in any military career. As I stated there is only a couple of missions like these so please be patient. If you are looking for 100% action then check out the survivor campiagn, ;)

madaboutgames - have you had a chance to try the VPrepair tool listed above?
-
Downloaded it and patched the old file against the new one. Not sure how it works though, i assume you just put the patch file in the same file as the vp what needs patching.
Download the patch here
http://files.filefront.com/PatchHEUpat/;4504755;;/fileinfo.html
Let me know if it works :)
-
I'll try it when I get home this evening (5:30GMT). I'll get back to "work" now.
Thanks.
*edit* I've sent you a PM.
-
Having downloaded it, but it didn't work. I downloaded VPatch and I've worked out what was needed to be done.
First:
Create the .pat file (as you did)
Second:
Run VAPPEND PatchHEU.pat vpatch.exe vpatch.bin
This should generate an .exe file that can be run to apply the patch to the original file.
Third
Run the .exe. At this stage is says no suitable patch was found.
Is there any chance you could try stage 2 and 3 on your machine madaboutgames? The let me know if it works or not.
Has anyone had success using VPatch on vp files before?
-
Fury or Mad can you explain since i am not a computer guy how to fix that corrupted vip file so i know how to fix it. i DL that file but i dont know how to use it.
Thank You.
-
Has anyone had success using VPatch on vp files before?
I'm assuming that TBP use them to update their VP files when they release a patch seeing as how Mr Fury is the one usually responsible for those.
-
 Any Help with that vip file will be apreciated. Remeber i am not a computer wiz if someone can explained step by step i will apreciated.
Merry Xmas to all
-
 Thats a new one
It looks like it may not have been installed properly, try removing it with control panel/add remove programs, then reinstall it. Don`t forget you need to install openAL.
What version of windows are you using?
I've got openAL, windows XP and nothing seems to help. I'll take a another crack at it after the holidays.
-
why is the download sooooo slow?
edit:
ok, i changed the server, now its pretty fast...
-
Hey there mad, it seems I am having a similar problem as Herra Tohtori, for some reason every mission I am starting, I start with 30% hull integrity, which is alright for now but i'm sure will be a pain to ork with later on in the campaign lol. Only other problem is that when I hit the first mission after the training (the one involving escorting) i'm stuck in one place where I started as if i'm just some kinda spectator. Thought i'd try bypassing it by waiting the full 25 minutes, but unfortunately even though I somehow beat the level sitting in one place, I couldn't jump out, so can't progress. Anything I can do to get this fixed? Thanks in advance :D
-
Anyone else come accross thos problem?? If so put details and specs here and we will get to the bottom of this ;)
-
I'll get the details after new year, when I get to home... spending the holidays at my parents', so I can't post the details right now - but here's what happens:
Similar, during campaign play, every mission starts with Alpha 1 having 17 % hull integrity (weird, seems to be same problem with different hull integrity there with popes2), AND on the escort mission I have no ship, but the Alpha 1 does exist AND it has 17 % hull integrity from start.
When I play the missions through mission simulator@tech room, they work all right.
I can post my computer's specs, but I cannot post the errorlog file and stuff right now... here is my PC:
System: Windows XP Home SP2 Finnish
CPU: AMD 64 Athlon (3000+ or 3200+, cannot remember which one it is, but one of these anyway)
Memory: 1024 MB DDR-SDRAM
Graphics: NVidia GeForce 6600 @ 256 MB
I can use both fs2_open_3.6.7 (optimized for AMD 64) and the build that comes with HTU demo download, but the problem remains the same regardless of the build I use.
Earlier you suggested that my original Freespace install might be conflicting with TBP install (because I see the Heat'em Up intro video whenever I start fs2_open, regardless of whether I play basic FS or TBP) but I haven't had time to test this. This might be behind it, but as I said, haven't been able to test it yet - and I'll get home somewhere around 4th or 5th January, so I'll get to the problem then.

:wtf: There is no way you should be seeing the wrong intro. In fact unless you're like me and installed TBP as a FS2 mod despite the fact that you're not supposed to FS2 shouldn't ever be able to find the files that TBP uses let alone the ones that this campaign based on it does. Freespace 2 and TBP should be in completely different folders.
Where did you install your files to? Did you install TBP to your Freespace 2 folder?
-
Yep, I know it's *weird*.
I have TBP installed at C:\Program Files\The Babylon Project\ and Freespace is installed at C:\Pelit\Freespace2\ (Pelit=Games in Finnish)
I know it shouldn't have no way to show the intro when I use Freespace from Freespace directory, but that's what it does. Right now I cannot do nothing with it duoe to ~700 km between me and my computer... I'll probably do a fresh install after new year when I get home.
-
it has got to be something to do with the registry. Freespace 2 will not look for a file that is not within its parent directory. It ;) has to be told to do it, so this has got to be something to do with the registry.
-
Yepp, now to think of it... I use same launcher build (not the exact same, of course, but in different dir) with both TBP and FS2, and I have noticed that the changes I make when I start FS2 are also visible when I start TBP, so I'd presume that both launchers use same registry entries that conflict with each other... (ie. When I choos FSPort mod when starting FS2, the same mod seems to be selected when I start TBP... :nervous:)
I wonder, might it help just to rename the other launcher or is there something else that would make both launchers use their own reg entries?
Hmh. I'll dig into it when I have the chance...

Hows evryone getting on with 28 mission demo?
-
I finished it. The missions were ok, felt like it had quite a bit of filler in some ways. Where you have done parts of Episode storys it would have been good to get a summary of the events as a campaign brief. Especially if you could put clips from the show as an animation at the same time. It feels a bit disjointed, you don't really get a sense of what has happened beyond what you directly witness.
What I found odd is that the training missions were harder than the rest of the campaign. Though that had in part to do with a bug where it would randomly tell me I failed at the start of the mission after I targetted the instuctor as told to do so
I'd also be tempted to do two versions of a campaign, the full version where you trying to create the atmosphere of being a pilot in Earth Force, and a more action orientated one where all the missions in which nothing happens other than you travelling from A to B trying to follow eractically moving wing leaders (including all of the flying from B5 to the jumpgate) are cut. It doesn't add much because everyone will get it over in about a minute or two by bumping up the time compression to x64. If you made it a bit like the freespace games themselves; you don't fly everything, you fly every interesting event, and the bult of the nitty gritty details, changing squadron etc are handled in the campaign breifings. Some campaign briefing detailing relevants events from the episodes where everything happens on station would be good, it would make the whole campaign more involving, and less bitty.
Well done producing all the missions though, how long on average do they take you to fred?
-
Iwould like to have used clips from the actrual show, but due to copyright and broadcasting video as well as audio may have some licence fringements. So I opted to use the ingame graphics for the cut scenes.
In season 1 not much really happens except the comming of the shadows and the gradual rise of hostilities with the Narn And Centauri as well as the assination of the president. So there is not much action in the demo as this covers season 1. I spiced it up a bit using the Agamemnon attachment which also introduces you to Capt Sherridan. There are only a couple of star fury missions in season1 so I had to put as much gameplay in there as possible, or this would seem a very small season campared to 2,3,4 and 5.
As I said there are only a couple of missions where you have to escort or do a flyby where no action occurs, tdue to feedback I will be putting in an autopilot so the player can safley wiz through these missions. Season 1 isnt the best material for producing the demo, but I want to introduce the campaign from the start. As ion the series it all starts to happen season 2 onwards and thats where the fun really starts. The training isnt the easiest, but you need to be quite good to get through seasons 3 and 4. If you can do the training then you can easily progress through the first 2 seasons until things really get challenging ;)
-
I still think you need to include some campaign briefs just so player gets to here about things happening on station, it makes it more realistic, and it would be useful for later series - especially if you do things like bits of Night Watch altered information up until Severed Dreams. In missions such as the one where you scan the early earth vessel with the injured woman aboard, when you finish it you get no mention of what follows - nothign about the strange creature they 'stung' to death. There the plot about epsilon 4 (though you'd need some models for it), and a couple other things. Even some interesting radio chatter when your doing stuff like escorting the night watch vessels would be good.
I'm sure you could think of a few things to do as missions just to spice up series 1 a bit, they're must have been the odd raider engagement, angry freighter pilot to keep all those pilots busy in the mean time. Just not on the same plot importance as the ones that were shown explictely in the series.
-
There are briefs, but it is still an unknown bug why these wont play, nearly all missions at B5 have briefs which is why there is not much text regarding the brief. Hopefuly we will get to the bottom of this soon.
The mission you speak of regarding the ship with the injured woman, This mission (Unexpected guest) is not based on that mission, a ew sound samples where ripped from that episode, but the actual episode is in season 2 and is nothing to do with that mission. This is just a filler mission, like I said there was not much action in the first season, this is one of the missions that just offer something different. And besides, realistically a star fury pilot would not know all the details and outcomes of the events in a mission they have flown.
I would have prefered not to do season 1 at all with the lack of correspondable action, I would rather of started from season 2. Most poeple however (and me) would like the game branching from start to finish. Over the last 2 years I have done over 89 missions for the B5 heat em up campaign and many in the demo are the less exciting ones, when you get through season 2 and begin season 3 Im sure that this will become clear. Only 8 more months to wait :)
-
can't u post a second demo halfway between now and the release . i liked the demo and 8 months of waiting is so long ;)
-
All good things come to those who wait :)

Problems solved here. Amazing what a fresh installl cam make, eh? Still don't know what caused the startup hull integrity thingy, but it isn't there any more. And, I'm not seeing the intro video on FS2 startup any more either, it just shows it when I start TBP, just like it should.
Bet there was just some common registry entries and spare crap in some folders. Oh well. I'm finally getting to actually play the campaign...
One thing, however. I noticed that when I enable D3DMULTISAMPLE_[other-than NONE], it doesn't show the video - the sound plays, however. More oddities, eh?
-
There is a known random bug which sticks on the loading screen while playing the cut scene. This may not be due to multisampling, as this still occurs randomly
-
just finish the demo.....great demo, but some minor bugs, like the minbria (not i can't spell words correctly... ;7) ships, half of there textures are missing......and the only thing that scare me the most is introduction of the shadows, that shadow warship came out right in front of me while i was taking down their fight, scare the hell out of me... looks great....looking forward for the full campaign..... ;)

Howdy madaboutgames and everyone
Main freespace2 campaign finished, what should I do? Play Babylon 5!
Seems the link to the full mission pack is broken! I've downloaded the preview, but would also like to have the full pack. So...
Update link please?
Thanks
Peebee
-
Well the Heat em up campiagn is currently on hold until EMR - The Earth Minbari War is finished, should be done in 4 or 5 weeks :) After that work on the Heat Em Up Campiagn will resume with an expected full release of next year :)
The ALF Mission pack will also be finished off at the end of theis month.
-
Hi madabout
That sounds like good news to me! Thanks for the quick answer. Hope the work on the campaigns will advance with the same beam-like speed! I wish you good luck on that one!
I'll have to figure out what to do in the meantime, though. Well, that'll be my challenge then. :drevil:
Bye

Dont forget the Infestation campiagn is available for download and is optimised for 3.3a :) there is also the long twilight struggle mission wich is also avilable for 3.3a. Check out www.heatemup.stargame.co.uk for info and downloads :)

:) yay! thanx for pointing this out, madaboutgames! I didn't know there was a heatemup-homepage, so i'm very happy with it. I've been playing the main fs2 campaign for quite a while and not following the news.. I probably missed a thing or 2. Or 3.
When I download r3.3 and the patch, do I have tot have r3.2 also? Cuz I wouldn't know where to get that either.
Peebee
EDIT: Oh. I see... I found the Babylon Project home. Question answered. Thanks!
