Title: Recommend war games.
Post by: Rictor on December 14, 2005, 10:47:46 pm
I'm looking for an Operation Flashpoint style game, single-player, that's fairly recent (y'know, graphic wise) and feautres modern warfare. Something a bit more tactical and a bit less run-n-gun. Not Battlefield 2 or CoD2, though I will probably be getting CoD2 at some pint. The only ones I can think of are Ghost Recon and Op Flashpoint, which from some of the screenshots I've seen can be modded to look pretty damn cool, though of course I wouldn't know where to look. In a pinch, I would also settle for some wargaming-lite (as in grid-based, turn-based wargames), as long as you don't need to have graduated from Westpoint to play the damn thing.

Basically, anything that's generally entertaining and satisfies the completely natural urge to watch your enemy flee from the sight of your T-90s as they lay to ruin everything he holds dear.

My inner General awaits your suggestions, and summary execution by secret tribunal awaits those with insufficiently entertaining recommendations.

edit: has anyone played Cossacks 2? How is it?

C&C Red Alert and Red Alert 2 if you aren't look for anything terribly realistic.

I don't think that's quite what he is looking for; he said stuff like Operation Flashpoint.

Speaking of Red Alert, I've been playing that quite a bit lately, ever since I recovered my old mod from a broken deathstar hard drive. I need to post some screenshots of that. The new units and AI are awesome. :D

While it may not be exactly what you're looking for, Nival Interactive's "Blitzkrieg 2" is pretty damn fun. Basically, it's an WWII RTS only there's no resourcing or 'building' units, you simply call in reinforcements and go wild. Looks good, plays good, and there's nothing more enjoyable than blasting through a fortified enemy defensive line with King Tigers and striking at an unprepared enemy within...

Don't get CoD2 at some point.

Get it now.
