Trying to see if this is possible. The owner wants our website to pop up only for people that live in a certain city, or within a certain range from our retail outlet. Is that possible? For example, someone types in "Steel retail" in yahoo... and our website pops up at the top of the list only for people in Houston or close surrounding areas.
Possible to do?!

Eeh... you'd have to somehow max out the city name/plus keywords, or pay the most for it through Omniture. I can't really see how else you would do it.
Actually, nope, cause then they'd have to put in the word "Houston" in their search.
It's a feature that may be popular and they would use in the future, but google local is a much better bet.

try local search on google.

Local search on MSN or Google.

hey what about those sites you go to that say "Find girls in Houston, Texas" and then have pictures of girls. i know you've all seen them.
like this:

soooo if they can do it, it's got to be possible to limiting searching geographically... right?
ALSO, why can i not insert pictures suddenly?

Those things are based off your IP address (I think) - i.e. the content is generated in relation to the city loctaion associated to your subnet. Sure, you could do it, but you'd have to code your own search engine and have everyone use it to do what you are actually needing from it. :S

yeah i know it's done by IP address, I was just wondering if it was possible to do with search engines :)
Thanks :D
