Title: Webysite design - need opinions.
Post by: Rictor on December 18, 2005, 10:34:45 pm
I'm redoing my portfolio website, and the thing is that I've been looking at it for so long I can no longer think objectively about what is good or bad. So, I need a second opinion.

Which version do you prefer, and does either (or both) look professional, the kind of thing you could confidently send out with a resume (assuming the job is for graphic design). General comments and suchlike welcome. Is it basically any good is what I'm sort of asking.

My problem with the clean version is that it's a bit plain, though I don't know if I've gone in the right direction trying to make it more visually interesting.

edit: also, is the logo any good?

I like the first one better. But the white spots on the grunge version look like stars. Maybe you could try adding some on the clean version so the background looks like a star map (but hey it's just a suggestion  :). It looks nice overall!

#2 looks like it's been given more thought.

2nd one, would look even better if it had the tabs "HOME", "ABOUT", etc. from the clean version.

I'd follow Fishguts' advice if it weren't for professional purposes. While it's true the wear n' tear shows a bit more of your artistic skills, I'm going to have to say go with the 1st plain one.

It's just more..... grown up.

1st one looks like a webdesigners portfolio site ... although i get the odd feeling the BG is taken from a picture
