Looks pretty cool, but I'm having a hard time making sense of it.

It looks like the ships are hovering above an ocean with stormy skies overhead.

Interesting effect, no?  Actually, it's two planes.

It is a really neat effect, and it gives me ideas for a possible future render...

Two really big planes with a texture. Simple, yet very nice  (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/smile.gif)

multilayer the noise so it doesnt look like it tiles. (say...2 layers masked off with some other texture, and something in the luminosity channel in the far background to shine through)

also try adding some texture filtering in if your program supports it.

I'm sick and tired of being sick and tired!!

Pretty nice... but you've got to stop using that angle on the Alcyone. I must have scene exactly the same shot dozens of times. It's a nice ship, take advantage of that. Give us some broadsides, or something...

do you know you can do that exact same effect in FS2? quite easy actually. Oh, talking of weird effects in the FS2 engine:

I like the last one, it's fuzzy  (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/smile.gif)

If I wanted to do a good version, I'd probably play around more..... but this is really just a glorified test.

Wow, venom, that is some massively sweet stuff.  (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/smile.gif) How'd you do that?

As for Shrike's... Have you ever seen Flight Of The Navigator... It's a really old ('80s) Disney movie about some kid who gets abducted by a time-traveling alien ship... but in the end, the time-traveling part looks a little like what you did... two plains, and in the movie there were like tornados of energy and lighting bolts bridging the two plains.

Check it out, it's been a while since I've seen it, but I remember the effect was pretty cool.

Joe.

If it was a little more "lively" it'd look a lot like it... but great job to both of you for the pics, their very impressive  (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/smile.gif)

Your quoting yourself from the same thread, thats just asking for PC = PC+1 comments to be thrown your way  (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/wink.gif)

Not that I care about post count, seeing as we both made PC = PC + 7000. Which, btw, I should fix. But he missed it the first time, so I thought I should repeat it. Logic is A-1  (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/smile.gif)
