Title: Sword of Xanten / Curse Of The Ring / Ring of the Nibelungs
Post by: an0n on December 24, 2005, 08:49:17 am
****en awesome film.

The production values are right up there with Xena and Hercules, and it's 3hrs long, but despite that it's still pretty damn good.

It's got Kristanna Loken as Brunhilde, Valkyrie Queen of Iceland, and it's based on the Volsung Saga - what with Siegfried and such. I, personally, am of the opinion that Kristanna Loken can't act for **** - but the one thing she can do is act angry and look hot, which is pretty much her entire role, so all is good.

There's lots of sword fighting, mythological crap, curses, dragons, people being stabbed through the heart with spears and plenty of implied rape. All of which I usually hate (violence and rape excluded) - but it's done well.

Good classic plot. Smokin' hawt leading lady. Smokin' hawt supporting lady (Alicia Witt). Max von Sydow. Tons of death. Go watch it / buy it on DVD.

/me downloads it to watch again

/me just bought Xanten, Shopping and Boondock Saints on DVD from Amazon.

And despite them all being 24hr dispatches (with Xanten being released on the 26th) I've got a delivery estimate of: 27 Jan 2006 - 13 Feb 2006

There's only 2 Shopping and 4 Boondocks left, mind. But I can't see that affecting sales. So either their delivery estimate calculator is ****ed, or there's a huge pre-order for Xanten's presumably limited stock.

It was on TV yesterday, but only comes out on DVD on Boxing Day - and even then I think it's a UK-only release.

I find it creepy that Bloodrayne Kristanna looks almost exactly like Mortal Kombat Kristanna.

This is also a week-long, four-part opera by Wagner. It's the musical equivalent of a huge plate of sausage.

Whatever else he does, I will forever associate Max von Sydow with Ingmar Bergman's Skammen.

I always think of him as Lucifer in Needful Things.

Only because Skammen is one of my favorite films of all time, and it's the first Bergman film I saw.
