Pretty.... unfortunately you can't see many episodes of "Friends" without being reminded about this as well.

This reminds me of when I was at Burger King about 10 days ago. I and my brother we were sitting and we saw this big picture on the wall (5x2 meters).

And on the picture there was NYC at night and we talked about how high those two buildings was (the WTC towers of course) and said how puny the other building around them looked. Then we thought that those buildings around were way higher that any sliver we have in this country. I think that BK have taken the pic down now.

Look at it this way, soon there will be a monument there that celebrates the life of those people that died, stands as a reminder that this should never happen again and above all shows that in the face of adversity people are willing to give so much to help those in need.

The world trade centre may be destroyed but whatever is built in its place can only be more splendid and meaningful.

The WTC is getting rebuilt in the same area I think though it will look different outside and inside.

Sort of on topic...anyone have any good US-flag themed wallpapers? A big, wavy flag, or a flag & eagle, or something like that. Google has not been very kind to me in this.  (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/wink.gif) Anyone have anything good?

How long do you guys think it will take to clear up? A year? Two?

no, its true...
The owners of World Trade Plaza were _SO_ sure that both towers would never topple together, meaning that the insurance policy only covered one of the towers at any one time...

I hope the towers aren't rebuilt...  its the equivalent of raising the Titanic...

I don't know anything about the insurance but the individual who currently holds the lease for that property had JUST acquired it earlier this year for 3.2 billion dollars, how ironic is that?
He has, however, made a personal committment that the towers will be rebuilt. It really is the only sensible thing. The memorial for the Oklahoma city bombing was one thing, the property was owned by the government already, but do you really think someone who just dropped 3.2 billion dollars on a ONE HUNDRED year lease is going to let it sit there with a memorial on it? Hell no! Of course he's going to rebuild it, insurance or not, because without a building on it it isn't going to make any money to pay the mortgage on that humongous freaking loan.

Do they really need to? I have a horrible feeling its just wasting money by mending a damaged pride. They could just as easily build a new buisness park outside NY or something, it'd do the same job just as well.

Sorry if I accidentaly offend anyone, I just feel that the WTC towers were almonst martyred as an icon of the "democratic and fair western civilised world". In reality they were a pair of buildings that could be redesigned and dont have to appear as they do (huge towers) which doubtless cost more to maintain and so on than a buisness complex (which is probably safer as well). Thats how I see it anyone  (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/smile.gif)

Um, hello?  Do you know why they make high rises, beyond the whole phallic obsession thing?  Because they can fit a lot more office space into a 100-story building than they can into a 10-story building, for the same ground coverage.  I'm a fan of big towers though, especially the cool modern one.... there's one in Hong Kong (I think) that almost looks like it has a texture out of FS.   (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/biggrin.gif)

Rebuild the Twin Towers.

Gollum is a hobbit- er, he was a close reletave of one. he was er, transformed by the ring, and spending so many years under the Misty Mountians

The towers aren't going to be rebuilt, at least not in the exact same place- I see a memorial going up there. I'm sure they'll build new buildings in the same general area, but it will be different. The exact spot will eventually be a nice little bit of park complete with monument.

I know he was a hobbit (the kind that lived on shores of rivers, dunno the english name). But read the book, he dosen't look like a hobbit anymore: even Gandalf had difficulties tracing down what he was. For the link, sorry, I saw the pic in a magazine.

how... that would be cool  (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/smile.gif) so the guy they show... that must be the one who will do the voice then. Why did they dress it like a hobbit? rah! Now I feel dumb, it was a big mistake.

Rebuild the Towers as a memorial for the victims.

Here's what I just barely heard will happen, I wish I could remember the source to back it up, but it escapes me.  (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/confused.gif)

There will be four 50-story buildings built to replace the WTC, as well as a memorial.

would people really want to work there, knowing what happened before?

I think they should nmake it into a memorial park-type thing, with a giant flag in the centre, and 6000-odd marble tiles on the ground, one for each victim.

Except the new world trade center should be built in a secret place, not out in the open where people can just come up and destroy it.

Secret?
Let's hide where nearly 20 thousand people go to work every day- see how long it's a secret!

You notice how even WHILE this whole thing was going on, when Bush started scampering off to his secret hiding place, the news services found out where exactly he was going and reported it within an hour? There is nothing secret in the US (well, nothing anyone cares much about)

More like 50,000...and I think that number may have been per building.
