Title: ***** scanner!
Post by: TrashMan on December 26, 2005, 06:01:17 pm
Guess what - my syster has been cleaning up her office for all the useless clutter and among that was a scanner - which she gave to me. Perfect timing - it's christmas and after reading some web comics I started to practice on my drawing.
So I plug it in with a ile of sketches to scan in my hand..and nothing..windows can't find it. After some looking on the internet it appears it's not supported under Win XP!

AAAGH!

Oh well... I'll have to get myself a sketchpad one of these days.

Nooo.... there are plenty of peices of hardware that jsut don't work with XP/2k.  If you really wanna use it, TM, I suggest you attach it to the PC, and use a knoppix CD, hopefully it'll have decent NTFS support, (if not now, the newer cd coming out soon will) and you can then save the images to your HDD.

Or if you want to get technical...

Quote
KNOPPIX is a bootable Live system on CD or DVD, consisting of a representative collection of GNU/Linux software, automatic hardware detection, and support for many graphics cards, sound cards, SCSI and USB devices and other peripherals. KNOPPIX can be used as a productive Linux system for the desktop, educational CD, rescue system, or adapted and used as a platform for commercial software product demos. It is not necessary to install anything on a hard disk. Due to on-the-fly decompression, the CD can have up to 2 GB of executable software installed on it (over 8GB on the DVD "Maxi" edition).

What's the brand and model name?  I recently got a very ancient ScanJet scanner that claims to be barely-supported by win98 to work quite well under XP (albeit painfully slowly).

And I looked on hte net and around some forums.. 2-3 poeple sez it works by them, but 99% say it doesn't. And I have tried various drivers..no matter, I got a hold of a digital camera :D
