This is something else that I made for someone - for reasons that I'm not sure if I can divulge (so I won't), they wanted a working space station, capable of actually being built, and that is capable of building other vessels as well. The result is this:

The robotic arms are computer controlled (they're supposed to have three claws on them, but the model is killing my system as-is), much like an autoCAD assembaly line. The arms move back and forth on the trolleys below them, the big center groove is for a tank-like tread to carry them, while the things on the sides are for rollers. The large boxes are habitat modules, and the tubes connecting them are for people to walk through. This station will eventually have an internal layout, which A) is not my job right now, and B) I'm too lazy to do anyway, but I was just wondering what you guys, artistically, thought of it. It's all done in Sketchup.

Kind of reminds me of a spaceship wash. Otherwise pretty neat. :)

just go with the star trek ship building port :)

Thanks for the comments/compliments :)

How about an assymetrical outcropping, a structure that could serve as a dedicated C&C Suite, or whatever? As I can't imagine there'd be much room left for that sort of thing when you factor in computers, controls, heatsinks and soforth for the mechanical arms in each of the large boxes.

^well, you could add in additional modules docked to this for that purpose.
I have a question though, if the arms are on rails, is it necessary to have so many?

Looks nice
Maybe add a few sets of larger arms to support the hull?
And.. thinking on how you would ship in the construction materials, I guess it can get a bit crowdy there, judging by the size of the arms.

Looks pretty cool.
I'd say a bit more space inside is required, but I don't know what type of ships its for.
I might suggest mixing things up a bit. Put a few extensions here and there so its not so symmetrical. :)
Good Job though.
