Title: I know this isn't the place for this, but...
Post by: delta_7890 on September 23, 2001, 08:46:00 pm
A girl I felt very strongly for rejected me.  I asked her out, she said no, now I sit in sorrow and confusion.  Her reason was that she wanted an irl relationship, and didn't want one over a computer.  I'm really crushed by this, and I trust this place to give me support and guidance.  thanks.  it feels good to let this out.

I assume "irl"="real". It could also be "girl", in which case your choice of gfs must come into question (it's happened to me, so I know it's no fault but my own). I'd say rough luck, but it's not- telerelationships suck. Again, trust me. You missed out on one of the most miserable experiences of your life- never getting to meet this person in real life, but getting 'almost... but not quite' constantly. Be glad she had the sense to realize this, and find a real relationship for yourself.

...real relationship don't really work out too well with me.  because I'm physically handicapped, I can't offer the stability needed to keep a relationship.  at least on the internet, the playing field is leveled to a point where I have no more disadvantages than anyone else.

Delta, You have my sympathies.  I think most of us have been through something like this at some point during our lives.

For me it happened over in Africa, right after a terrorist's bomb exploded twenty feet from where I was standing.  Although the armor and helmet saved my life I realized that had I been killed, nobody really would've cared.  This began the most depressing five years of my life as I ran from one disasterous relationship to another.  Finally I got over it and got on with my life.  Hell, if I can find "that special someone" (being a social retard and such  (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/lol.gif) ) then I'm sure that you'll find her too.

Just don't give up hope, it's really the only thing any of us has.  (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/smile.gif)

thanks jon.  you're right, I shouldn't give up hope.  I'm sure the right girl for me is out there somewhere.  I only wish I knew where to look.

Could be worse, Delta. I have a repulsive real-life personality. And the internet levels the playing field in that it removes it almost entirely- the person I cyberdated had actually LIKED me in real life  (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/eek.gif)

Whatever your handicap is (what is it, BTW?), it cannot be nearly so bad that it's better not to have a body and speak through a machine. (If your Stephen Hawking, sorry, I didn't know)

I always thought I'd always be alone... was always rejected... but then I took one chance (looked where I didn't look before)... and now everything has changed.

It happened for me, so there's hope for everybody.

Joe.

Eer.. no, in my case, it's more cause I never stop dicking around and start taking life seriously... which I always considered a good thing. But back to topic.

Well, most intelligent people have the ability to put across whatever message they intend in a clear, unambiguous way - and I speak from experience too  (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/tongue.gif)

Delta, my thoughts are with you. Good luck, though all will be well - you just gotta stick with it.  (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/smile.gif)

yes, but that doesn't make them sound any less 'superior' in attitude

even when they are not

[edit]an normal-person friend was looking over my shoulder as I typed that - and they said "true dat!  Until I really got to know you i thought you where the most arrogant *******  I'd ever met. Then I came to realize you are not arrogant - you just seem it sometimes."

Delta: don't worry about the future, for worrying has never contributed anything positive. I'm sort of in the same situation as you, although with me it was in RL and we were engaged before she broke it off. I thought I'd never get over it. But it is true that time heals all. Fortunately or not, depending on your point of view.
