Title: Windows X64 (fixed -my bad!)
Post by: T_A on January 01, 2006, 09:30:05 am
hi
i just heard of this project today and thought to myself "why not..."
after all FS2 was IS still the best space sim ever (just missing nicer graphics which you took care of...)
so i installed it from my old cds, patched to 1.2 and even got open fs2
but then i got error when i tired to play

im using Windows XP x64
but i cant get the game to run - tried the FS2 and the Launcer for open fs2

is this game not compatible with x64?

Not alot of games are built to run on windows 64, i do not know if some one can create a patch for it.

Sorry to state the obvious but which error did you get? Did it immediately crash to desktop?

Which build are you using? Official 3.6.7? Have you tried something from the recent builds subforum's >> CVS Builds thread?

What are the other specs for your machine besides the OS?

Why did you get XP 64 anyways?  It literally has little to no performance difference between 32 bit windows, and many games dont support it.

Can you make it so the game is in Win98 compatability mode?

ok seems its all my bad
i tried the babylon project and it worked so i reinstalled freespace 2 clean and that worked too
now i added the fs2 open executable and launcher (officiale versions from the site) and still all good
then i added the mv pack and i got this errors (3 of them )
here is one :

Error: mvp_capgun-wep.tbm(17):
Error: Required token = [$Mass:], found [@Laser Glow:         2_laserglow03]
in weapon: Terran Huge Turret.

File:C:\Languages\Visual Studio Projects\Visual C++\fs2_open\code\Parse\PARSELO.CPP
Line: 535
[This filename points to the location of a file on the computer that built this executable]

ok i removed this one - mv_100patch , the game works now

I suspected it might be a crash due to something that would crash it for any of us rather than an XP64 specific bug which is why I asked :)

Have fun with the SCP then :)

thanks , game looks great now
btw, i know its not the right forum but after i put the pack i got from the site do all the hi poly models and other stuff work automaticly?
all i did in the launcher under features was to "Enable All" + in graphics i added the "use large textures"

and again - great work SCP!

The game is 64-bit compatible btw.  It's fully functional under 64-bit Linux and OS X.  It should also work under Win64 but it hasn't been tested at all.  To get a 64-bit version requires that it actually be built for 64-bit, but Win64 will still let the normal 32-bit version run in 32-bit mode.

consider it tested and working perfectly (for what i can see)

What Taylor means is that you'd need a special 64-bit version of FS2 for windows to get it to take advantage of the speed benifits of running XP-64 instead of plain old XP. No one has made it yet so all you've done is test the 32-bit version on XP64.

It's useful info of course though :)

You may, however, notice an improvement in x64 from the kernel and system services being executed in native 64-bit mode, meaning more CPU time for the game. I get a whole 2FPS difference between the two. :)

The 100patch only works with CVS builds. (It says so on the download description now)
