Title: Hollywood Trailers Voice
Post by: Fineus on January 02, 2006, 12:19:51 pm
So there I was, randomly wondering the ultimate question:

Who the hell does the voices for most Hollywood trailers? I'm not talking about the actors here but the deep-as-hell "This season... Some. Bollocks. Happens." voice. For an example see here: http://www.apple.com/trailers/fox/master_and_commander/small.html One of the voices says "An act of war will cripple them"... that voice...

I'm sure he used to do those Denim adverts...

For the man....who doesn't have to try...too hard....

I remember seeing a segment in Film 200x about the guy who does the voice overs. It really is just one guy who does them all. Wish I could remember his name.

I don't know who it is, but I ****ing hate that voice. It's so overly sensational, it just makes me angry at the public for responding to such an annoying sound.

That's the point though. I can't help but laugh at it. It's so dramatic and over-the-top that I can't possibly take it seriously.

Heh, one of the best laughs I ever had was hearing that voice at the cinema declaring in all sincerity...'Free Willy'.

I think that's the idea behind this:

i think the Hitchhiker's guide trailer said it best "a deep voice, that sounds like a 7 foot tall man, who has been smoking since childhood..............*ahem* "

That...might've been funny, if they hadn't put in that feedback at the start. :doubt: Note to future comedians, ear pain does not make me laugh...

Don LaFontaine?

Thanks. That's the guy. Wikipedia credits him with the voice overs for over 4000 trailers! :)

That's a good library of dialogue... in case he should die or something.

Actually, it's two guys who are doing most of them. Don LaFontaine is one of them, but I think the really over-the-top, melodramatic trailers are usually Hal Douglas. (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hal_Douglas)

I liked how the Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy trailer made fun of that guy
