PXO is dead but coders are feverishly working on bringing it back to life. It's replacement is FS2NetD but unfortunately that's kinda ill at the moment too.

The result is that even if you can log on to FS2NetD you'll probably not find anyone to play with at the moment. However there are people who still play multi by IP games.

Game-Warden (http://www.game-warden.com/forum/forumdisplay.php?f=42) is a good place to post looking for a game although you may be able to tempt some of the regulars here to play.

I'm assuming that FSO is reqired?

Poop, why do most of the the cool mods/addons reqiure FSO? It's not fair

Not at all. Many people play online using nothing more than the retail version of the game. There's no reason you ca't play using an IP game. Furthermore Tom's Old Build is basically retail with support for FS2NetD so you shouldn't have trouble using that.

As for why everyone supports FSO in preference. Try FREDding or modding for both and you'll see why. :)

Tom's Old Build

Could I get this 'Tom's Old Build', or is it one of thoses one-of-a-kind personal modifacations? If I can get it, where?

Man, I remember playing the Shivan Gauntlet with my brother back in 2000 or so, it was awesome. Of course, it was back when I thought the Ulyssess with dual morning stars was good.

Look at the Old Engine Build from point 2 here (http://www.game-warden.com/forum/showthread.php?t=267).

It dosen't work. When I run it, it just crashes. Nothing comes up except for that stupid "Freespace needed to close. Would you like to send your error report to microsoft?" thing pops up.

Have you followed the other steps in that guide?

I used the one at the top of that page, numbers 1 to 5 (couldn't get FS2 running, so 6-8 don't work). I didn't see any other steps other than that post and the old guide.

wait, would having the HOTU crack thingies make it not work?

Nope. Shouldn't hurt. Certainly shouldn't crash it.

Okay, I tried with that build of the SCP, and it worked. But I wasn't able to connect to FS2netd, but I suspect that is because of the status of FS2NetD, and not me. When I tried to host a game, it said something like "asking PXO something something something" Then it crashed before I could read the rest of it. It did that multiple times, and I'm not sure if thats me, or it.

You shouldn't be playing using PXO. Try a lan game. You'll need to find some people who play that way though.
